Wakatsuki didn't suffer any crippling injuries, though, at least none that were noted down like Gaolang's shattered fist. He's probably only gotten stronger since then, to hold true to his promise to Furumi of winning the Chairman position for him "next time". It's pretty much a given the Kure clan is heart and heart allies with the Kengan Association simply due to the head's friendship and partnership with Metsudo.

Speaking frankly, the real question is what is the driving impetus behind Purgatory fights? Kengan is driven by corporations betting against each other. Purgatory however implies a more gladiatorial and entertainment based system due to calling its fighters gladiators. There's also the fact it has a way more centralized leader. Seki didn't speak as if there were anything wrong with Purgatory at all. They made a point of avoiding deaths in the Kengan Association, but Jose didn't feel nearly edgy enough for it to be a pure deathsport type system and any such system would be practically unsustainable in the first place.

I wonder how long it will take before we properly learn how Purgatory works.

It probably would, but him starting from the bottom and over time working up to relevance is still better than the usual fare. Like sure, you have shit where the MC starts weak, but due to them being the MC, they will very rarely be in a situation where they aren't the central focus, which requires them to be fighting people on their level. With Kengan, even if he was a genuine MC (Which is still open-ended, I guess), he's not going to have a massive focus, because there's a great cast to fall back on. He can have a more natural growth curve thanks to that.

Wakatsuki not recognizing a counter move after being hit by it once, Ohma tanking so much damage while the manga calls attention to the fact he can't mitigate the vast majority of it, waka not being impressed with redirection kata. It's a shame that most Ohma fights were either boring or frustrating with the last one being the exception. Visible plot armor is never a good thing.

Something to consider; the reason why Agito overwhelmed Sen in their match was because he had evolved from fighting Gaolang. It's not that that there was a disparity of that size between the two of them since the beginning. Sen's problem is that he only started training hard right before the tournament, and that he also needed to get into the proper mindset as his match with Agito approached. That said, the latter isn't really a problem when he does manage to get into his best state, but it is indicative of an issue with his "improvement rate", whereas Agito is always striving to improve.

Perhaps Agito would have still won the match even if he hadn't gone up against Gaolang and learned to put away his personal pride for complete efficiency, but his weaknesses of taking things lightly at the beginning of a match and (when he can't beat them in a mirror match) his default option of forming a counter-style to beat his opponent may have opened up a path to victory for Sen (since it's not like other fighters in the tournament haven't managed the same feat of exploiting lapses in their opponent's tactical judgements, such as with Wakatsuki and Julius).

Raian clearly spent the last two years traveling around and perfecting himself, though, and he was already demonstrating them at the tourney.

I never said Sen wasn't strong, though. Takeshi remarked that he had "polished up nicely" before one of his fights, and mentioned that Sen likes to take on weaker opponents that gradually increase in strength to get into "top gear". Not only was he probably doing this before the tournament even started, he was in a good position to do the same during it, fighting a relative nobody and then another nobody. Even then, he was visibly worried about Actor dude since he completely fell for his bluffs and only got his easy win because Actor dude tried to use Aikido on an Aikido expert. As for Bando, we're explicitly shown that he researches him before the fight. Hell, he even works himself to the bone during that fight (it's quite literally where that picture of him sweating bullets comes from) and nearly gets his head caved in. He himself also explicitly states that he worked hard and actually put in effort in order to get ready for the tournament so that he could take down Agito, and he even mastered a new technique in order to do so.
He did the martial arts equivalent of pulling an all-nighter to go through all your coursework the night before an exam, and the exam (Agito) still wiped the floor with him.
He's a smug slacker that eats shit for being a smug slacker, and the fight between Beard and Agito has him watching as an audience member and feeling awful because they're very clearly on a whole other level from him.

Just like Beard, the dark horse who not only defeated but shut down all the characters who could even be tangentially regarded as possible rivals for the MC, and eventually even taking down the MC himself.

So what's unique about Sen is that his usage in the story is an enjoyable departure from the norm, and I don't particularly think that him being a 'lame loser' is the intended takeaway.

And he already attempted multiple fighting styles (Karate, kickboxing, mma) and quit because he thinks they're bullshit. Then he shows it to Kazzy trying to show off how strong he is now and Kazzy won't let him fight because of it. Could be a setup for him joining purgatory.

Actually, it wasn't that he won due to evolving from fighting Gaolang, but because Omori put reins on Agito's autism and gave him proper martial arts to use against someone who would likely win against Formless. Sen was prepared to fight Formless Agito, maybe better than he were while fighting Gaolang, maybe being autistic about using his own style against him (and in such case Sen would definitely have advantage). But Martial Arts Agito? It brought several factors that ensured Sen's defeat:

Gaolang did not learn a new martial art. He went back to the martial art style he used at the beginning of his career (this was mentioned); Omori simply helpd him to perfect his striking technique.

To be honest, the examiner (Omori) changed all the questions for the exam (Agito) at the last minute, so all the preparations for specific test that he expected (Formless/Autism-Pride of using [Insert Martial Arts] against [Expert In Said Martial Arts]) went to thrash in face of new set of questions (Martial Arts Agito) with surprise bonus question (Dragon Fang).
Also, that fight allowed Agito to evolve a lot, there's no way Agito would be able to do some of the things he did during Gensai fight if not for facing Sen, especially the invisible dodging.

Normally Agito was using Formless Autism, and he didn't even intended to have Gaolang break fist against his elbow. Agito's "custom made" fighting style to beat Gaolang was simply evolution of Formless.
Basically, Formless Agito won against Wakatsuki but would likely lose against Sen, while Martial Arts Agito won against Sen but would likely lose against Wakatsuki. It's simply that those different ways of fighting are good against some and weak against others.
Of course, after his fight against Gensai, none of that matters anymore, as he can swap between those in an instant.

Agito was too prideful before fighting Gaolang; his mirror match gimmick is just him messing around and trying to one-up his opponent, but it''s bound to get him more injured than he would have been had he just gone into formless style in the beginning (as I think he'd have already constructed the basics of it from observing his opponents before the match and fine-tuning it as the fight goes on).

Either he always wanted to fight Gaolang, or he builds up this autism by watching the fights of the best in specific area, as he felt hyped when he learned Gaolang will participate.

That part is actually believable. Waka knows how to grapple but he is a karateka first. It's very hard to break your habits in the fight unless you spend years on it or a genius like Agito. Waka was doing karate for more than a decade before he even started grappling and don't forget that his strength also left him with a lot of bad habits.

Maybe, Wu calls them fakes so to me it seems more likely that the Kure learned/created the Advance based off of the Wu clan’s techniques, which either make inferior or impure. That or the technique is the same but the Kure are seen as inferior/fakes because they dont have the pedigree that the Wu do. Assuming nonsubversions in the Wu/Raian fight then the Kure clan’s version of the Advance & their eugenics program is going to match or exceed the Wu clan version.

While I do expect to see Karla have proper fight, I doubt it'll be a part of the tournament or that Raian will be absent.

Removal is what Kure do. Advance is what was made to combat Removal. It's quite obvious Wu should have Removal and Advance was made to fight them long ago, but since then those that knew Advance (which seems a pretty small number nowadays, limited to Last Niko, the self-appointed Tiger's Vessel) are part of the Mushi alongside at the least Edward Wu if not all of Wu.
