>The comedy relief is the most powerful character in the show
>Explains why they survive all the slapstick
>Doesnt interfere too much with the plot because they believe that the protags must earn their victory

>villains have a normal life outside of villainy

>character has distinguishing birthmark
>sets them up to be the "chosen one"
>mark is inconsequential or otherwise irrelevant to their place in the story
It doesn't happen often, but I like it.

>MC rejects entire harem for best girl

>The comedy relief is the most powerful character in the show

Attached: thestrong.jpg (657x467, 57K)

Name literally one time this happened.

like in madagascar?

>there's a prophecy related to a scar
>character inflicts a wound onto himself after surviving a fierce battle so he's be The One

>delinquents appear in the show
>act like classic delinquents

Never fails to make me laugh.

Does Madagascar produce a lot of anime? I thought they mostly produced vanilla beans.

>honorable/respectable villains

instead of he's ebil because he is!

>Character defeats misguided enemy through both combat and dialogue, making the opponent change his ways to become a better person and a friend

Attached: Rurouni-Kenshin.jpg (851x640, 107K)

So basically every shonen MC against any bad guy?

anytime the protag and villain have to work together to beat someone

Most of them don't have real reasons for why they're "bad". I'm talking about the times where you can see where both are coming from and they both have valid points for what they're doing, and where the MC ultimately actually uses words and arguments that are convincing. Many examples of this is just
>Hey I'm bad *attack*
>Stop it you're bad *wins*
>Oh shit you're right
Kenshin only had a few really good moments of what I'm talking about.

OLD MEN

>underling fails in their mission against the protag because they were too weak
>instead of killing them, the big bad sends them back with support to curbstomp the protag
I need to know if this exists, I can't think of a single time it's happened. Why the fuck do evil overlords treat all their minions like shit?

this in general, even in a broader sense
like getting a prophesy and being like "oh shit i don't want that to happen" and then somehow making it happen through their efforts to avoid it.

>character dodges would-be fatal attack aimed at their head just narrowly enough that it grazes their cheek
>counterattack from 3 different angles

Attached: E3283EBE-FA21-4DA9-AB25-8C77F7924C1C.jpg (123x185, 6K)

Literally every shounen ever.
Did you watch Mob Psycho?

All I'm saying is that it's rare for them to do it in a way that's satisfying for me. It being common is what makes it a trope in the first place, but what makes me love it is when it's done well.

>character with their eyes constantly closed finally opens their eyes

Attached: 1553504050152.jpg (1024x576, 113K)

>No more magic/Chakra/nen whatever power
system there is
>Good guy and rival decides to settle the fight with punches
Happen a often, is repetitive, but boy that is incredible

>weak as fuck villains underestimate the mc and he proceeds to go beast mode
fuck it gets me horny

I don't know if it counts as a trope but

>the very beginning of the opening starts playing during the end of the opening scene/recap
I'm watching Hibike Euphonium right now and it does it and I love it every time.

Intense rivalries where you can understand both sides and also why they hate each other intensely.

I really only remember this done well in Gundam Seed and S-cry-ed. Though it's been many years since I've seen them...

This is my favorite trope in general

>Character doesn't really like fighting and avoids it as much as possible
>When they actually have to fight they are one of the most powerful characters

Attached: starrk___los_lobos_by_rafflesbr.jpg (900x488, 81K)

I finished rewatching their last fight like 2 minutes ago. I loved that anime.

Konosuba

It makes the trope of defeated enemy joins the hero's party more plausible

What is Jobren, Jobly, and Hit

>MC cheats or bullshits every battle he is in
>MC defeats his enemies with 100 in Speech and Charisma
>MC just attacks the enemy when they are giving a speech
>MC has an ally backstab the villain when fighting them
I like practical MC tropes

Attached: 1532808408555.jpg (388x443, 151K)

Now that you mention Scryed, I remember it has another of my fav tropes.
>baddass and likeable character dies a honorable or heroic death.

Attached: Goodnight_sweet_prince04.jpg (1439x1079, 418K)

I think mean scumbag MC

A few posters have mentioned them being the strongest, but underdog comic relief characters getting serious fights, in general. Even if they lose.

Attached: file.png (1000x1514, 2.6M)

How is the MC a scumbag if they are fighting for their life?

There's just so many I love, it's hard to say.
>MC is overpowered and never faces a challenge in the series/the series pretends it's a challenge to the MC
>MC is supposed to be the weakest in the school or whatever, but he's actually the strongest
>The strongest person in the school, a girl, challenges the MC and loses, and from then on, needs to be saved by him after jobbing to every villain
>The main villain has a couple of top henchmen. He kills one of them for failing a mission.
>After a really strong antagonist loses to the MC, he becomes his friend and is always weaker than the MC and the new villains he faces
>"If you kill him, you aren't any different from him!"
>MC gets isekai'd and introduces concepts to the new world (like crop rotation)
>RPG system and stats in a fantasy world
>References to other anime/media as the punch line
>Camera pans up to the sky and "EEEE?!" can be heard
>Character has a power that would negatively affect them each time they use it, but no visible effect happens/can be seen
>Isekai'd MC introduces Japanese cuisine to the natives of the world and the prefer it over their own food
>Every character the male MC meets is female. Male characters are irrelevant
>All female characters are good, all male characters are bad
>MC buys slaves that are beastmen
>Isekai'd MC is reborn as non-human but becomes human in a short while
>America is evil
>Power of friendship trumps all
>MC gets punched by a female after walking in on her getting dressed
>MC is dense to a female character's advances
>Female character looks and acts like a slut but isn't one
>Fantasy races have males look like monsters/animals, and females look human
>Mascot characters
>Arranged marriage
>*Loud noise* "Huh? You were saying?" "Nothing!"
>Main couple gets together in the end
>Villain and hero fall in love
>The weakest character defeats the strongest character
>Generic mook ends up becoming a relevant character as the story progresses

Attached: 1540845098007.jpg (721x561, 32K)

In the lion king, scar’s facial markings are birthmarks, they just named him scar because it sounded cool.

>strongest guy has no strong relatives or special genes
>he just tries real hard

Literally this week in precure

>MC has an evil power in them that is uncontrollable
>Instead of refusing to use it, MC immediately trains with the power to overcome and control it
Any examples of this happening?

>One-san/Oka-san/"Ara ara" character shows her true strength

I really enjoy it when old men use female pronouns and speech patterns

UQ Holder, recently.

>Character gets a cape and wears it for a climactic battle
>Character that normally wears a cape loses it and goes without for a climactic battle

Isshin is that you?

That´s incorrect.
Scar birth name is "Taka". And that means "trash".
He changed the name himself once he got hurt by a rino trying to impress his father so the scar reminds him that he will no longer try to have the acceptance of his father ever again.

>Villain and hero fall in love
I wish this happened more often. Is there any actual 7/10+ anime where this happens?

>I can't think of a single time it's happened

Attached: not_for_fug.jpg (2064x1600, 659K)

Having the overlord be the protag feels like cheating though

To be fair they have to actually want his dick for there to be a harem. Otherwise it's just a waifu zoo for the viewers.

I honestly really like this trope very much.
I'm not being ironic or trolling I just really really like this trope.

>MC dies at a bit over the half way mark of the story
>No one else can fill their shoes
>The remaining good guys have to beat the big bad despite the now much worse odds
>Ending is bittersweet at best

Honestly, Viral/Simon was pretty good too

Asta in Black Clover

>Remembers the sacrifices his mook team made to slow/stop them
>Pulls it back from the brink using the sheer power of rage and powers up
>Begins to use enhanced version of their attacks
>OST is a duet of the main villain's theme and his mooks theme during portions of the battle where he's using their attack
>Villain fucking uses their signature team attack move solo as a final trump card
>OST during it is a combination of the villain's theme and all of his mook's individual themes which create an orchestra
>Main villain begins to die as a result of performing the attack solo because of the strain on his body
>His team attack begins to lose the individual mook parts of it as a result
>The lost mook parts begin to transition to a music box
>Final scene is entirely music box with the villain finally resting, knowing he gave it his all

The usual way
Do you understand what honour is? Honor is actually risking your life and limb and dying by following certain "fair play" rules. if that means your friends, family and nation die? That is only more honourable and admirable
So yes, it is way more honourable for 10000 men to die on the fields of battle then 10 men to die in a feast, go die on a shitter old man lannister

Kenshiro and all the Joestars have it.

Examples please?

>normally emotionless cool character becomes clearly distressed

>After end credit shows that The big bad is not really responsible for the killings. He is the most nicest guys in the show
>The real villain was the MC who was under the influence of the curse murdered all those people

"Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters."
A) Might is right. If you have a method available to you that guarantees victory and also prevents retaliation and repercussions, you should take it. The one who is right is the one who is left standing in the end.
B) If you have something worth protecting, your honor should be the second to last thing you throw away to protect it, followed by your life.

>overconfident MC attacks the antagonist right away sure to defeat him
>gets their ass handed to them and told to come back when they're not weak

> "Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters."
well, yes. In the honour paradigm total armageddon and absolute devastation are accepted - and embraced! from the outset
To think otherwise is a base nihilism and craven cowardice
> A) Might is right. If you have a method available to you that guarantees victory and also prevents retaliation and repercussions, you should take it. The one who is right is the one who is left standing in the end.
So, entire honour paradigm and culture are built around the belief that there are ALWAYS reprcussions. One may believe the opposite, but stating that is not an argument
you may notice that honour and destiny are always linked, and that destiny leads the honourable hero to honourable death
> B) If you have something worth protecting, your honor should be the second to last thing you throw away to protect it, followed by your life.
Honour IS the thing worth protecting! One who value any live or lives over any idea or ideal do not have ideals

Koukou Tekken-Den Tough

>MC getting fucked up
>no thoughts
>no ultimate move
>just berserker screaming

That whole "recap with the beginning of the OP" thing was kind of annoying in the first season, but I got used to after re-watching and began to like it in S2, since the beginning of the music felt like it "rolled" into the rest of the opening much more smoothly.

The first time seeing the OP in colour in ep 6 was cool. Finally blue skies, life is colourful, good times are here and hype and all that. And then by the next time you see the same opening scene the meaning has changed a good bit, assuming you paid attention and gave the show proper emotional investment. At least it's made much more obvious by the end of ep 11.

I think Bunshichi from TT counts but I don't think he dislikes fighting as much as he's just lazy.

...but Bunshichi is undoubtedly gifted. His entire shtick is that he's a cream of the crop natural born fighter. IIRC, when he fights Mitsuomi, Dogen even contemplates how everyone else has to train tremendously to even come close to his natural offense. Or something along those lines.

Honor isn’t only moral, it’s an evolutionary mechanism. If you can stab people in the back, what impedes people from stabbing you in the back? Your might?
Remember friend, you live in the real world, where actions have consequences and you eventually need to sleep and scratch your back.
Rejecting honor as a fundamental principle upon which our very beings were build is very nihilist or childish. Or both.
Not to try and ad hominem you, it’s just that you aren’t taking enough factors into account.

>main character starts talking in kansai dialect

Any other examples of that?

I feel the discussion has gotten a bit off-track, the original discussion was "scumbag MCs" using dirty tricks to win a fight, to quote the original post of this chain:
>MC just attacks the enemy when they are giving a speech
>MC has an ally backstab the villain when fighting them
Take these for example. They give a clear advantage, and can be prevented via proper diligence from the side being attacked. Of course, using underhanded tactics necessitates being wary of the same tricks used against you, but they will always be on the table to begin with, so it's best to instigate rather than be in the dark as to whether they may be used.
If you're building a society, a code of laws and restrictions (and therefore consequences) needs to be in place, but in a fight to the death, literally anything should be on the table. International warfare, as well, greatly benefits from a code of laws, but this is more of a ManV.Man argument. If I'm getting jumped by some guy with a knife, and I have the option to play dirty to get an advantage, I'd be foolish not to use that option.
I don't think honor as a concept has no place in society or in fights, I just feel that in a fight for your life, one should throw away honor first.
I could get into clarifying my points in the context of where the discussion is now, but that turned out too long for a comment and I've got a lecture in half an hour.

And because I don't like completely derailing, I really like it when a gentle character has a "you have threatened my friends, you have fucked up" mode, pic related

Masataka Takayanagi is probably a slightly better example. He doesn't have any God-given talents IIRC. Hell, isn't his brother a good example as well? He dedicated his entire life to reach the pinnacle of martial arts.

And yeah, I figured user probably meant something like >special talent.

Fuck, that's good.

I like it when a new villain shows up and has the same gimmick as og villain, only "better". Like, he thinks he's made the og villain's tech or whatever better and can now beat everything. He then challenges the og villain to defeat him and prove himself as the superior version. But then the og fucking curbstomps him and the new guy's like "no, that's impossible, how". Even better if he cries to the hero to save him when he realizes he's fucked.

This sounds like Boros from OPM, but without his mooks part, otherwise it's almost the same.

>MC sets out on a quest solely for revenge

This. Mono-et-Mono is the best conclusion to this shit. Nothing else matters except to drive home that this conflict is their fucking destiny. Everything generally leads to this sort of shit in that narrative and I love it.

Villains giving a shit about their mooks in general is something I love. Not seeing them as disposable tools but as allies he's gathered for a cause greater than any single one of them.

>characters acts like an idiot and everybody makes fun of him/her

FUCK YOU I LOVE THAT SHIT

>Romance/Romcom
>MC actually has a friend of the same sex
>said friend has their own side romance

And it's almost always better than the main romance.

The problem with this is that most writers (especially shonen) use it as an excuse to keep their protagonsit a desnse idiot who knows nothing about romance, then suddenly after a timeskip they're married.

Then you have stuff like pic related where it's fucking amazing.

Rest in peace, dad.

Why are so many MC's dense idiots? Is it just because the creators are autistic or they think their readers will be autistic?

because so many MCs are dense so an MC has to be dense to be an MC

When the very last proton degenerates and the last blip of matter enters a black hole, I will still be mad.

When the final neutrino is annihilated and the universe seemingly ceases to exist, my lingering rage will remain.

Several reasons

>1
Most of the time the manga are in shonen magazines. You don't want your manga to get axed or anything and young boys are generally pretty stupid when it comes to romance, so you keep that shit in the background

>2
Most mangaka are loveless losers who've never experienced a relationship in their life.

>3
Going back to points 1, it's less time you have to spend making the icky girls relevant.

What i hate most is when there are two characters that know they are in love and nothing happens as a way to not disturb the status-quo. Why even bother then?

Oreimo

pretty much, never forget Masashi Kishimoto actually tried to make sakura liked by the readers and was surprised and dismayed to find out everyone hated her. For some reason a lot of writers don't realize you just write women like you write men

>Comedic side character is either the strongest guy in the show or is legitimately bullshit powerful because he's had to keep up with the special heroes who were granted powers because of MC status and fap-/shlick-/market-ability.

>Villian is in fact evil not because ME AM EVIL because he/she/it is just a bad person taken to the extremes and you are able to see that evil humanity in it and recognize it with ease.

>The unbelievably powerful characters that have nothing to do with the plot at the moment. They just happen to show up help out a bit and fucks off because we get the feeling that what they are up against is so beyond the mc at that moment that it would be suicide to attempt it.

>The emotionally pent up character letting loose and having fun, showing that they are actually fairly cool/powerful or have a quirk that makes them kind of fucked up or annoying.

>For some reason a lot of writers don't realize you just write women like you write men

No, that's actually wrong.
They hate her because she's an evil stupid cunt, not because she's not written like a man.
You stupid cunt.

Hinata is as feminine as a vagina wrapped in flowers and lace and she's the most beloved heroine in the book.

On a similar note, one of the best parts of Sunred is when a new villainous organization shows up to challenge Sunred since Florshiems never been able to beat him, and Sunred just tells them they gotta beat Florsheim first.

Then they try and beat up Florsheim only to get curbstomped and learn that Vamp and his boys aren't weak, Sunred is just freakishly strong.

>both sides give their contrasting according to keikaku lines

It didn't exactly go as you describe here, but I do think we saw a significant character development in Naruto when he confronted Nagato and learned about humanity's endless cycle of pain.

I actually like that trope if the male is aware that they are beautiful but he has good self control

>main antagonists who is considered a major threat is defeated
>getting rid of said antagonist actually makes things even worse

>The comedy relief is the most powerful character in the show
I FUCKING LOVE THIS!

>mc gets an overwhelming powerup to finally get rid of that threatening big bad
>that powerup of his gets out of control and he goes on a rampage, being the new big threat

Lemme throw an obscure one for you: Devil & Devil.
Rivalry well established and made sense. They become friends, but still rivals. Final battle of the show is them going at it at 100% after kicking the bag guys ass, just to see who the stronger one really is.

My nigga I was never able to put this into words, though I'd also apply it to emotional scenes as well
>OP or emotional character theme has been played numerous times
>The character dies or otherwise goes through their narrative climax
>Their song continues to play and we find out there's a second, more meaningful/emotional part to it
I know this has happened once or twice before but I can't remember where, or even if it was anime or otherwise

>Overpowered protagonist meets overpowered antagonist and neither can resist putting their abilities to the ultimate test by having a cataclysmic death match where they both revel in killing the shit out of each other

Don't know if that's a trope, I don't think so, but I love when the ending starts playing before the episode ends, and it just matches the climax of a hangover as the song has some solo in the start or something like that.

i like this

>normal guy in a world of superpowers and bullshit magic, still kicks the shit out of everyone
>mc feats actually spread and new villains shit their pants upon meeting them because of their fame
>villains actually care about their subordinates, have friends and normal lives outside of villainess, plus points if they have a hobby

>first half is vegeta
>second half is my headcanon

>elite group of morally dark grey villains, each extremely unique, powerful and an arc villain on their own

Boros?

Romcoms:

>MC cuts misunderstandings at their root by explaining everything properly
>MC starts as a loser but develops into a confident and worthy boyfriend

Sports
>Opening plays during the final play of the match
>The benchwarmer has been training like crazy and finally gets his time to shine
>Oponent team is so fleshed out I almost want the protagonists to lose

Comedy:
>That one gag that keeps getting reused except it gets more and more ridiculous each time
>Serious looking character is a huge goofball
Mostly because they're not tied to the status quo of most romcoms. Shuu and Ruri(nisekoi) even had a nice confession scene

This, this, this. And when the scene itself doesn't even have to be spectacular, but the ending theme is, that also gives me chills a bit.

>girl confesses love and proposes marriage where everyone can hear it

Jojo

>male mc surrounded by cute and beautiful women and doesn't act like a perverted creep

That's been basically every male protag in anime and manga for the 20 years.
What you mean is a generic male who doesn't act like the hot chicks who are only there to be hot as fuck are worth a fuck.

It's not done because they want the male in the piece of work to be overwhelmed and thus the men in the audience by how how attractive they are.
Its cheap, but it's effective.

Doesn't Jojo just introduce a new cast to give the spotlight to?

Made me laugh thanks user
