No it’s not that bad. There’s a lot of narration in fights especially because most demons or new characters get some sort of backstory/fleshing out during fights and Tanjirou often learns new moves during fights. It’s sort of asspully but there is a logic to how he does that, through inherited memories.
Even with all the dialogue, the fights move very quickly in the manga, Ufotable is just slowling the pacing down.

Repeat. Every scene was like a direct solution to what the scene needed to accomplish while lacking any subtlety. Like how they try to establish the character and the family. So fucking obvious and stupid. Then the guy talking about demons during the night as if to justify what's going to happen next rather than actually write something that builds up to it without making it obvious. As for the MC: a bunch of slapped-on accessories for that "distinct" character design that a bunch of morons will think is impressive.

Well setups always have the feel of a setup thats why most people give shows three episodes. The manga is one of my favorites with how it treats death and better yet how the characters react to death in that regard its completely unique. The fighting/magic system is fun to see in action, nothing very new, but different enough to not be stale, and the characters are all interesting enough that you relish any time thats spent on them. The villains are nuanced enough that you will be happy to see them defeated and cry to see them go.

The on hint of romance is Kanao having a bit of a crush on Tanjirou (completely justified because Tanjirou is best boy).
Also Tanjirou has a background harem of 3 little girls who work as nurses for Demon Hunters who get injured but they're a cute comic relief trio more than anything.

Red Light District kicks off almost immediately after Spider Mountain. The mange breaks down pretty easily into 50 chapter block, start->spider mountain is about 50 chapters, Red Light District is about 50 chapters, then the Hantengu and the current arc have gone for about 50 chapters.
So going by that, it would require a third season to get to that point. A bit early to say if it will do well enough to get a third season when only one episode is out so far.

He gets a burn scar as a kid which you see in a flashback and that's why he had one in the beginning. Then he gets an injury during the exam so that's how it becomes a more aesthetic scar. Then he just happens to get his power-up mark in the same shape. It's never explained or justified and is obviously bad writing but it seems like one of those things that worked that way because initially it wasn't clear how long the series would last. What's even worse is in his first flashback with his father, they have the exact same forehead scar which just makes it seem genetic. It's way too much of a "chosen one" thing.

She's a plot device, not a character. I love the manga and even I can acknowledge that. She's never been a character in the manga outside of a panel here or there where she reacts to something. She literally can't speak or think, she's the same level of character as a pet dog that follows the MC around.

Well she's certainly not an important character, she's a side character that generally is used for plot devices but doesn't have her own story arc.

I mean, obviously yes. Every series in Jump goes in expecting to get axed and Kimetsu would have been axed if it wasn't so lucky with timing that the magazine was going through a big change in era.

I don’t think it’s necessarily bad writing. A lot of things are inherited in this series, things which aren’t genetic like the passed on memories. So who’s to say the same injury can’t get passed on as well. If the actual descendant of the breath of the sun had a birth mark, maybe since Sumiyoshi wasn’t blood related he passed on an injury to his successors instead. So Tanjirou was fated to injure his forehead for it to look like that. Also he’s not necessarily the chosen one, while he is the successor, he definitely doesn’t have as much natural talent as Tokitou or Kanroji.

As someone who has just to the start of the red light district... is it bad writing or am I supposed hate the fucking pillars? They all seem like major assholes except for Tomioka.
Even suddenly making Kyoujuruo into someone whos supposed to be a cool, nice dude felt like major whiplash since the only time we see him before that was him being an asshole with the rest of the pillars at that trial.

It's possible that it could be as you say and we're on the last arc, but I think that this more of a turning point for the story. It has been said in this arc a few times that "it's the final battle" or "things may end tonight", etc, but I think that's just how the characters see it (or how someone would see it in retrospective considering how Muzan has been around for 1000 years).
It's like a red herring for both the readers and characters and gives us something to talk about. Even if I think there is still a fair amount of the story left, I still have some doubts which is fun in its own way and if everyone was 100% certain of what would happen it would be less enjoyable.
If there is a longer time-skip then it would make sense to me that it would be after something big, just like what's happening now. Also, most importantly I'm still game for more Kimetsu and am still open for more of Tanjirou and the gang.

they are seeing a kid defending a demon because muh family, they have seen that same scene a lot of times in thier mission and it always ends up with the demon attacking his family, of course they are gonna try to kill her before she kills someone there.
the only reason tomioka didnt kill nezuko instantly was because he wanted to recruit tanjirou as a demon hunter, was when he saw her defending tanjirou that he decided to help them.

about Rengoku if you read carefully he is the only person who didn't laugh at tanjirou when he said he's going to defeat muzan and also praise him for his dedication.

That is how it's meant to be on purpose. Everyone had that reaction when the series was ongoing. All the Pillars seem like absolute pieces of shit when you meet them and then they all turn into great and relatable characters after getting exposed to Tanjiro's smile. Yeah, basically a change in generation. Kimetsu got lucky because it launched in early 2016, so when it wasn't doing well and would normally have gotten cancelled it was being saved by other big pillars in the magazine coming to their natural ends that year. AssClass ended a few issues later. Nisekoi and Bleach ended a few months later. Toriko, Kochikame and World Trigger all ended later in the year. It's the same reason why in early 2017 they launched six manga at once. They were struggling to keep the magazine filled rather than rushing to cut stuff. All veterans of Jump started working in Jump+ instead of Jump proper.

I think everyone debates what made it popular but it all centers around the same period when Drum House/Spider Arc cemented the idea of a trio rather than solo Tanjiro and the new volumes featured wrappers with endorsements by Akimoto and Togashi and the editors said they would support it at Jump Festa. Sales then started to rise but basically it was more than a year before the series was getting the sorts of sales on the charts that most non-cancelled series get by their early volumes.

See here, the first volume Kimetsu hit 100,000 on the Oricon charts was Volume 8, more than a year and a half after it started.

I think if there is any current Jump manga that can be compared to Kimetsu in terms of its start it would be Act-Age. Both had fans at the beginning but the majority of people just wanted them cancelled and then the sales weren't impressive at all (neither of them even charted on Oricon for their first volume) but the editors didn't cancel it for some reason and started supporting it and now the sales keep improving and it has grown a niche audience in the magazine that likes making homosexual fan art. They also both received their first endorsement by a legendary Jump author on the wrapper of Vol. 4.

I actually really enjoy his character.
It may seem really simple and plain but there is complexity in the themes proposed by him. Like if you are your best at any situation, you may inspire and help those who aren’t or can’t do their best for some reason, while also having something to stand up and fight against( true malice). It’s a really good lesson and theme to have, especially in a shonen manga.
Also, while he is a wide eyed naive boii, he’s literally a ray of sunshine, at least I think so. It doesn’t feel like he’s good and does good things because he’s the protagonist but like he became the protagonist because his view of the world added to the horrible circunstance naturally led him to fight evil.

This is a good post. I think the other reason why I like his character is that while he's nice, he's not a doormat. He has boundaries. If you're a demon who killed people he will end you, but also be compassionate towards your pain and suffering. He is polite towards the wind pillar and is grateful for training, but he still hasn't forgiven him for what he did to his sister. You also don't sense any hatred in him, he's just like "yeah, I haven't accepted you either" with a smile on his face. I don't know, his character has this nice balance that I really like.

She wanted to at first. But he was strong enough to hold her back. Then she saw Tanjirou get his shit kicked in and she remembered he was family. After she woke up she already had the bamboo in her mouth (which helps her somehow?). By then she was relatively rested and brought back to her senses. When you can think clearly it's a lot easier to resist temptations and she has only been getting stronger and better at it ever since.
Maybe other freshly turned demons could do the same thing, they were just never given the chance.

It also helped that Tanjirou was screaming at her for her to fight her urges. Really helps a lot to wake her up.
Other demons probably just slaughtered their family who couldn't fight back while Tanjirou had the wits to hold her back with the hatchet's handle and the strength to hold her there while he screams at her.
Then Tapioca showed up and the whole sequence with him and Tanjirou happened and seeing Tanjirou getting beaten up only woke her hard further.

The circumstances were right for Nezuko.

When it showed what a female tanjurou would look like, and a male Nezuko; nezuko was a pretty boy and Tanjirou was a butterface.

Well, it's not just that she's friendly. She is repenting by doing good in the world now. She's even putting her life on the line now for the sake of good. But maybe that's just how it is. If he had met her while she was in despair eating humans he would have killed her. Maybe if he had met certain demons later after they tried to repent he wouldn't have killed them either. Even Nezuko greatly benefited from the luck and chance she was given. In different circumstances everything would be different. Maybe that's part of the reason Tanjirou is compassionate towards the demons. They did bad things but they were also unlucky.
