My mom buys me Ghibli movies for Christmas so we can watch them togethe; even if the plots can be confusing or weird to her, she enjoys them. My dad’s DVDs containing “highlights” from ‘80s Astro Boy and the movie version of Kimba the White Lion were among the first anime I ever watched. He was deployed in Japan for a time in the 1980s, which is where I presume he learned about those shows. I am incredibly lucky to have my family be as supportive as they are.
