Shiggy's problem isn't with the students (aside from Deku). He is now at war with, and being hunted by, Pro Heroes in general. For his goal of 'destroy everything' to have a chance, he has to beat them. Killing students won't help him do that; in fact, the extreme motivation that would supply to the other side might doom him. Also, you test under circumstances where you will learn. Throwing H.E. at UA, with all the hundreds of quirks there, several Pro Heroes on staff, and who knows what sort of defenses, would probably have just wasted him. And unless the doc has a way to mechanically transfer quirks, the loss of a Nomu is a major defeat because without AfO, they can't get any more.

I fail to see the connection. Overhaul's goals were to restore the Yakuza and eliminate quirks. They were mutually complimentary and reinforcing. Infiltrating Pro Hero society would have done nothing to help, except given him warning they were moving against him IF he had a spy in the right camp. It would have made much more sense to get a spy among the police, since the heroes seldom make a move unless they have LEO backup.

UA's entrance exam is designed to get in people with flashy quirks (although that doesn't really explain Toru and Mineta but they're joke characters). Shinso could have gone to Shiketsu or Ketsubutsu where quirks like his are more accepteda, but didn't try for unknown reasons

1) The mind-contoller issue was addressed in his introduction. Also, the school requires both good grades and useful skills.

2) Because he has years of internalized inferiority issues that he hasn't shown sufficient progress in. At no point does he walk away from an undignified situation. The option to walk away when you're not being respected is one of the most important things in maintaining one's self-respect, and Deku's refusal to do this (particularly with Bakugo) makes him look like a battered wife.

3) It's implied that most professional heroes have, in fact, done more than the students have as part of their careers. The students have resolved less than a dozen incidents, although Protagonist Incident Magnetism is definitely in full effect.
Furthermore, the setting is one in which superheroes are heavily regulated by the government.

4) Welcome to the world of jobbing. While 7/5 INT-chan was a filler character, the characters that do appear in the manga don't always use their powers in the ways you might expect them to based on how they're introduced. Horikoshi isn't that great at writing strategy, so characters like Momo and Shoto will underutilize their powers, while characters like Mineta and Bakugo will push the limits of plausibility with their superpowers.

She might have gotten in through a combination of villain points (walks up to oblivious robot as it's moving, pushes it, it topples into other robots, they thrash each other, she gets points for all) and rescue points (she uses Refraction to blast robot optics, they're blinded, can't hurt anyone). As for her quirk, there is speculation she's manipulating light and therefore is extremely powerful; but doesn't realize it.

This doesn't make sense. Everyone is just handed their quirk at 4 years old or earlier. Bakugo has had it easy his whole life, not only does he have a powerful and easy to use quirk, he never had someone abusing him and trying to crush his self esteem. I've seen this brought up a couple of times, but nothing about the actual plot or setting of this manga resembles anything that would get actually get published in the west. It's more like Naruto with a pinch of TIger and Bunny than any actual cape media

The closest western equivalent in concept (since the west isn't as enamoured with high school settings) would be the X-Men and those are like a soap opera where everyone has superpowers. And stories about young superheroes tend to lean much more heavily on the coming-of-age and interpersonal drama aspects than MHA does, like the Young Justice show.

Reminder UA has people like the guy who has minor super strength but also needs to constantly eat sugar to keep it up and becomes stupid while doing it, the guy who shoots duct tape from his arms or the girl who is invisible and needs to take off her clothes for it to even be useful.

Besides, the setting runs on anime logic so it's not like quirks are ACTUALLY the only type of superpower out there. Things like AIzawa being so good at martial arts he can mow through literal dozens of people at once, or Mirio being so good at predicting his opponent's moves he can use the fighting style of a dude whose actual quirk is to predict the future, absolutely would be enough to classify for at least minor hero work if we assume most of the competition are even weaker than UA's bottom rung. And literally everyone making hero support gear is some kind of supergenius.

I agree the gentle fight is cool but it's also by far the best the manga has had. Most of the others are just "I must punch hard" with any sense of gravitas coming from buildup prior to the blow, which is a trick Hori has overused so much since the All Might-AfO fight (mostly though those annoying and extremely long flashbacks he does) it has become predictable and trite. And his panel flow is ass; even the most braindead writing can be saved if it looks good enough, like Dragon Ball, but that's usually not the case here
