I just finished reading this, two years too late. I really regret not having read it as it was being released-- I had no expectations going in and it completely surprised me, I think its my favorite romantic comedy manga.
Reading through the archives it looks the the anime was a steaming pile of shit, how badly does it screw things up?
Anime killed the artstyle, jumped around between the chapters haphazardly, and ruined the timing of the jokes. On the bright side because it never got popular from the anime the threads here didn't get flooded by cancerous retards and remained nice all the way through.
The author also had a new series since then but it got the axe just as it was finally finding its own feet and getting good.
John Butler
>Shitty enough to drive away animeonlyfags Well, that's an okay silver lining, I guess Too bad about the author's other series, this one had a real charming balance between its comedic and serious bits And finally, an MC who confesses and actually is shown to date his crush-- the fact that it all doesn't turn out to be some giant tease was a huge relief
Brandon Stewart
I just wanted confirmation that Shima would fuck Wolf in both forms.
Jayden Brown
The mosquito NTR joke will never not be funny to me
Anime was too short and wasted too much time introducing everyone; what they should have done was only focus on introducing the two main characters and assumed that the viewer was already familiar with the story to advance it beyond what little it covered.
Sebastian Gray
Jitsu wa Watashi wa is absolutely one of the best romcoms of the past decade. It's been a while but it is hard to address why it was so great. Perhaps it was the great humor, catered by the unique art style? The likable cast of characters where even the side characters got complete character arcs? The way the mangaka felt that beating around the bush any longer of the main pair getting together was dumb and just had them start dating 1/3rd the way through the manga and then kept going? I don't know, it was all so great.
It really did seem like he was leaning more to Shirou by the end
Jayden Watson
Shima not getting a full arc with development is one of the true tragedies for the manga, since it hurts not only him but poor slutwolf too. She deserved better.
I think Alium fell into the trap many second heroines have, where since the mangaka knows she isn't going to win and doesn't favor her as much as the main girl he spends more time early on developing and building the 2nd girl since her arc must come before the main one wins. Add in the fact that the main girl is already the mangaka's favorite so he doesn't feel the need to show it in as much detail. Jitsu wa is able to make up some lost ground though since the mangaka had the main girl win less than half the way through and then was able to keep the manga going and building after that as well. Dumpire was always great, absolutely great, but she wasn't quite as developed as a character leading up to her win.
Best joke was that the super pervert in the future was an extension of the gag where dumpire turns into an actual cool beauty when she's sad and got so depressed for so long that her vampire charm powers accidentally the whole world.
Oliver Garcia
Okada was best boy
James Fisher
The fact the main relationship was confirmed so early allowed the mangaka to continue to build everyone up beyond that point-- everyone sort of had a place to grow into after. It gave the whole thing a really feel-good outlook by the end. I forgot that it was basically a harem manga
>actual cool beauty when she's sad I forgot that was a thing by the time the charismatic pervert reveal happened.
Thomas Young
shitty artsttyle and garbage low tier kindergarden humor
James Wright
Speaking of Alium's development, we often got to see her internal thoughts, emotions and dialogue. It was much easier to feel for her compared to the other girls since we got to see things from her perspective, while we didn't get that as often for dumpire. We get to see Eromine thoughts about dumpire but we get to see Alium's thoughts for ourselves.
I really wish that we got to see the canon dumpire child Aside from the future-flashbacks I really expected to see Asahi/Youko and Sakurada/Cake's weddings too
Joshua Campbell
I'm still proud of this edit, if only because I used a mouse for the whole thing.
I wasn't expecting her to suck his blood in that chapter-- it's set in the back of your mind that its going to happen eventually, but I totally forgot about it until it did
jitsu wa is great in that the main couple start dating well before the end and it actually works
Camden Gomez
Even just the fact that they followed through on the confession helped out. Even leading up to and past the proposal, everything still managed to feel fresh, and not like it was just a re-run of the same love confession scene
Pretty amazing manga. I usually hate haremshit, but this manga realized that haremshit blows too and basically cut that out halfway through. I liked that the MC (Asahi? It's been too long since I read it) actually had male friends and that they got their own arc. A lesser manga would have just had the girls alone and would have spun its wheels like 90% of harem romcoms do.
It's one of the few genuinely funny manga I've read. I think its only big flaw really is not giving slutwolf/Shimada an arc of their own.
>he wouldn't go out with a cute vampire who is slow in the mind Her clan's apparent cognitive problems must be why they are less dangerous than other vampire families
>that Asahi had male friends yeah, the thing that really sold Prison School to me was the friendship between the boys-- it wasn't as huge a component in JWWW, but it was still pretty good
Ethan Brooks
I would go around the house just looking for teacups and figurine display cases to trap her in!
>It never turned out that Mike was a reverse trap What a waste.
Ryan Foster
>I just finished reading this, two years too late. I really regret not having read it as it was being released-- I had no expectations going in and it completely surprised me, What made you decide to read it?
Jack Howard
I keep forgetting about tall Akane She looks incredibly more sassy compared to short Akane
It didnt even seem like a harem to me, it was more like a Sol with cute and silly but dumb characters hanging out. Each character had a personality besides "I love MC", the fact the MC's friends all had their own characterization and arcs really goes to show how different this series is from other "harems"
Josiah Nelson
Some anons with superior taste were urging newfags to read it in a Komi-san thread a few days ago, and decided to go for it. Much like when Cross Ange was airing, I saw thread about JWWW but for some reason I wasn't interested at the time, but now that I've gotten around to it, I really wish I had been there along for the ride.
Xavier Wilson
>secondary cast got to be developed, have their own dynamics, and not revolve around the MC >most girls got to move past the MC themselves and find their own relationships >comedy is fun >actual conflict that the story can link back too (human X monser relations and future plotliine) >great comedy >actual fucking progress with lasting consequences >The cake finally got the man, white horse and everything Just to name a few. Romcoms tend to fall into endless stagnation as the status quo and the writers don't want to have a relationship move past hand holding since for some reason people think a relationship story stops once the couple gets together unless the story already started with them together.
Blake Baker
glad to see we opened up your world a little bit, that was a fun thread too
These threads always say alium best but I always found her fairly low on the totem pole. Mikan was always consistently more funny than her.
Adrian Morales
Hah, I figured it was probably you. Thanks user!
Brayden Morgan
Alium a shit who had too much paper dedicated to her Even her brother was a better girl
Juan Richardson
Actually not the user you originally replied to, just saw the thread in the catalog and figured it'd be you since there's not that much talk on this series these days.
>New manga got axed just as it was getting good Fug. Hope the mangaka lands back on their feet.
Jaxon Russell
The chapter where Mikan and Aizawa go to the supermarket is the best full comedy chapter in the whole series and nothing you say can change my opinion.
Angel Harris
>mfw hate myself for being a casual fan I started buying the official trades recently. I still feel kind of shitty not fully embracing the fandom in these threads as I should have while the manga was still in print.
I don't know man, when Akarin shows up out of nowhere fighting the Azura housewives I burst out in tears. Those are good but the supermarket chapter is just the best.
Matthew Brown
What are these from? 4chanx isn't working
Brayden Bell
>Jitsu wa Thread >MORE THAN 100 REPLIES Im so happy goddamit
Mahou Shoujo Akalynlyn was far funnier than it had any right to be and Akarin was a far better character than she had any right to be, and I'm glad for it Anyone who starts up and posts in a Jitsu wa thread is an ANGEL
I loved that in the lastest chapters of the author's last manga, the main characters of both manga were in the same beach at the same time I love that kind of shit
Jaxson Sanders
Wait!!! This get an english release??! Fug, then I'm going to get some volumes in my next payday. Thanks anons
Wyatt Cox
It's trash, but it could be worse.
Thomas Barnes
What is Shiho's title called in japanese? I've seen it translated as "Pervert" and "Nympho" but neither feel quite right.
Jesus what the fuck happened to Asahi. Dumpire I can at least say she's making a dumb pose but Asahi looks like he's about to beat the shit out of her.
>a smoking violent twintails delinquent so.. if she was tsun in the past and dere in the now, d-does that make her tsundere?
Tyler Mitchell
Bros... what other titles have as much soul as this?
Oliver Perry
japans produce soulless trash with rushed endings, so nothing
Aiden Hughes
some of Mizukami Satoshi's older stuff
Caleb Jackson
kaguya sama?
Gabriel Allen
Its more of a shounen combat thingy, but Helck is really enjoyable. Astra lost in space is great too (and its getting an anime, somehow) The only comedy-romance series that come close for me is Rokujouma, and the LN is seriously long
Jason Parker
So how badly did Seven Seas handle the big title drop in the final arc considering they fucked themselves ahead of time by renaming the series?
I wish more series had the main pairing actually make progress in years of being together instead of NOTHING happening for 99% of the manga and then getting an end without even a kiss.
Matthew Barnes
i love it
Zachary Carter
I guarantee they're gonna ruin it with this garbage since they've done it like this once already (in the first volume, which I assume got a lot of backlash as it didn't happen again)
Has he got any sight of a new series yet? after Hachi burned out I wasn't sure he'd continue at least in a shounen.
William Morris
When I first saw that, it legitimately spooked me. When I saw alium making that face again near end of the manga, it gave me a god chuckle. I really hope the mangaka makes a comeback somepoint in the future, their artsyle is kino
Christopher Reed
How bad? First of all, some of the voices didn't fit the characters (I'm looking at Shiho, the teacher and Yoko's parents), some characters were there and it didn't make sense, others weren't there and yet they covered chapters where they were supposed to be, the ending was completely original in that it had the idea of what that manga chapter did but made it more "dramatic" and the designs didn't have the "heart" of the manga, it looked generic. Also completely forgettable soundtrack.
I was one of the newfags who started reading this after that thread
Just finished it, why did it have to end, Anons? I want to see the qt bebe and vampire's married life.
Parker Williams
Well having a few more epilogue related chapters, it was better to end it then have it drag on forever We got to see the baby in a flash forward, so there's that, a Youko and Asahi were drawn in a few imaginary wedding scene, but it wrapped things up concisely, on a happy note. Also the anime completely bombed, and that wasn't helping the series get anymore popularity with its publisher
Not letting me get his autograph for one thing... Not yet. Please keep buying the official translations and supporting the author!
Levi Perez
Hey Tarage, are the official translations good? I've been holding back on getting them because of that.
Camden Allen
Casey?
Brayden Reyes
They're fine. Seven Seas can get a little liberal with puns and stuff but they're good dudes.
Carson Fisher
No
Joshua White
I love you guys, thanks for this thread
Jayden Gomez
I think if he'd chosen a different premise for his new manga with the same characters, it would have performed a lot better. Manga about manga get tiresome really fast. When you've read one you've read them all.
Joseph Sullivan
I just hope getting axed didn't put him off working on manga entirely.
Jaxon Sanders
All from a simple character comparison in a Komi thread
Nerdsucc considering Dumpire a cool beauty with high pervert power got really funny with the final time travel reveal.
Also, why are dumpires so powerful? >Arc >Vampire from Demi-chan >Youko
Jace Peterson
Police taking Shima in. Werewolf's Mom and the weird sexual appeal battle shounen manga everyone involved with her apparently live in. Alien being a super serious soldier in situations where it isn't useful in the slightest.
And this one didn't happen often but whenever the manga has a fakeout of "Shima is acting serious."
>Nerdsucc considering dumpire the real cool beauty with the final time travel reveal Fuck, I didn't even realize this. Even alternate timeline Asahi lucked out, he had to wait but the got a Youko with the highest possible sex appeal
Carson Sullivan
I would have preferred if the manga fleshed out Shimada a bit more. As it stands, I can't help but feel bad for Slutwolf.
Well Slutwolf had her gender bender issues sorted out and started to reach CFP1's level, which were bigger character things than her finding love, tbdesu. I honestly didn't like Slutwolf's turn in the confession conga line to Eromine, so maybe that's why I don't feel she got screwed too badly.
I read it over the last few days for the exact same reason. I feel both extremely happy and extremely down now that I finished it. It felt bittersweet. I really do love the main couple, but Ayy Lmao was way too cute and I just wish there was a spin off (similar to Nagato Yuki) where she could have won.
>On the first reading, she's crying laughing because she's a bitch >On the second reading, she's laughing because she's a bitch and crying because the man who treated her kindly with no ulterior motives is worm food More than the comedy, the girls, or the premise, what makes Jitsu wa so amazing is how tight all the plot threads are. Even throwaway jokes become really rich given the reveals at the end.
Chase Morales
Ultimate dream user. Honestly throughout the manga I was hoping for a Zetsubou-Sensei ending - where all girls gets to have MC (mainly for Dumpvire and Ayy Lmao)
Hudson Gutierrez
I'm glad Dumpire won-- not just because it avoided a harem ending, but also because we got a lot of good and cute "in a relationship" development from the main couple. Ayy had her chance and missed it, and we got a pretty good story line for her getting over her feelings of missing Asahi's affections
Hudson Morgan
The bat who was comfy in imouto's head was too cute
>Ayy had her chance and missed it Not really. You can't really count something from before the story even started against someone. The truth is that she never had a chance, both in story since Dumpire likes Eromine and Eromine liked Dumpire and Alium knew it or in a meta sense since it was obvious from the beginning what the final pair would be to the extent that the mangaka thought it was dumb to drag it out any longer a third of the way in. In a story sense there was one point where she did have a chance, provided she took advantage of the misunderstanding and tried to push dumpire and eromine apart when Dumpire thought they were a couple and gave up. That was an actual in story opportunity for Alium to win (although not in the meta sense because it wouldn't happen). Instead she lets herself be publicly rejected by Eromine in front of dumpire to fix the error and let the two people she loved most find happiness. Alium was best girl and if she had won she would have needed to not be best girl to do it.
It's tragic. Everything you say is true, there is no way she would win. Of course it was clearly obvious. But nevertheless I would pay extra attention the moment she and MC had, and those are the pages I love to reread the most. I do honestly believe she deserved MC, but it was not her story. If only there was a canon alternative version where she won - that is all I want now.
Well, you weren't alone because Alium came in first for the popularity contest, even beating dumpire and dumon. The author of All You Need Is Kill also chimed in that she was his favorite, which led to Tom Cruises twitter automatically retweeting about it since he was in the All You Need Is Kill (Edge of Tomorrow, Live Die Repeat, etc) movie at the time.
Yeah, you could tell the author planned most of the arcs very far ahead of time. The best friend's esper arc fit in perfectly with his actions in the past despite his nature only being revealed 200 chapters in.
Dominic Gomez
Like I said here I think the mangaka accidentally ended up developing alium more than dumpire since dumpire would need to wait until the end and he already liked dumpire the most anyway. Thank goodness the manga didn't end right after Dumpire won. It still would have been a fun manga for what it was but it would have been much less special and the ending would have been rather miserable and would feel unearned for dumpire, I think.
Interesting information. It is quite common for people to prefer / favor the alternative love interests innit? But still, it feels so harsh when it is all left in the hands of the original creator to decide what is and what isn't. Of course if someone else would create anything it would not nearly feel as real, but still.
Brody Barnes
She at least got a lot of space devoted to her throughout the story-- for something like Gal Gohan or Komi-san, the secondary heroines get REALLY shafted out of pages, especially because the main heroines are the titular characters, and thus the main draw. Because JWWW managed to widen its focus and themes surronding everyone's secrets, I feel like it worked out much better than it does in most romcom mangas
Nolan Bell
At least Dumpire was an amazing top tier girl too and the manga made it obvious she was going to win from the very beginning and actually had it happen early. I don't think anyone thought even for a moment that dumpire wouldn't win
>Helck is really enjoyable This is true. And then it goes full tragedy, like what the fuck, man. Helck is a good boy and didn't deserve that shit. Still a great read, especially for Anne and Helck's friendship.
Yeah, its not too often for me that I've personally felt that the main and secondary girls were as great-- even though dumpire winning was a closed case, I didn't really feel angry that it was narrative-locked in that way because she's a pretty fun character. People will probably go on for decades about Crab being the canon GF in Monogatari because all of the other girls are so great and get a lot more development, but at least the levels of character development (and endearing cuteness) are more equal in JWWW
Logan Hill
That's true, we should be thankful for what we have, instead of wishing for what we don't - but man is greedy, and want is the strongest desire.
She is really phenomenal, I enjoy her and MC greatly, but nevertheless I wish for the alternative. I had a similar reaction back when I watched Haruhi for the first time - and then I found the spin-off, and even tho it wasn't that great; for the time, it sustained what I wanted.
I suppose so hehe. To be honest I have never seen the point in people claiming character in romance manga as their waifus. Why would you want to inject yourself into a story like such and place yourself together with your favorite girl? It feels rather selfish, and disrespecting of the story. Not to judge others of course.
Jaxon Reed
>Smol demon in third This is right and good.
That was perfect payoff. I love the gloomy dude who can read people's hearts character.
The whole appeal of harem-ish romcoms is a girl for every taste. Sometimes the audience's tastes click more with a side girl than the main: the ayy, Megumin, Yuki Nagato and all the way back to Lum and Shinobu (who was Ataru's gf and planNed main girl). You never know what the audience will go for.
Nathan Fisher
That's true, it is all about subjective taste. Which then only makes it harder on the soul since all the truth is left to the hands of a single creator, with their single subjective taste.
Oliver Gonzalez
Even if the author grows to like another character more, they still stuck to the narrative arc that they set up. I recall reading that Ayy grew on the mangaka in one of the translated interviews, I think
Well, that only increases my respect for them in that case, with such stoicism. They followed through with what they initially set up. I cannot honestly say that I am unhappy, for I am not.
Nathan Johnson
Well Orange was clearly the 2nd girl originally as the bitchy tsundere rival, but she was awful and ended up being largely revamped due to it so Alium ended up as 2nd girl instead due to getting along with both the lead and the main girl.
Nothing, really, not quite like this does. I personally enjoy Kaguya-sama a great amount [it's in a bit of a dry spot atm though] and Love Lab [but it updates once in a fucking blue moon], so those are your best bets
Adam Ward
I wish there was a spin off for her and other sidecharacters. She's to cute to get so little attention
Jayden Walker
We're lucky Jitsu wa was as good to its side characters as it was, most aren't so lucky.
What a cute. Is she dumb because she was homeschooled?
Charles Stewart
I love that the author stays consistent with who knows what. It genuinely caught me off guard when wolf, alium, and Mikan all found out each other's secrets so late in. And then you just get the complications of characters who don't know which characters know the secrets, so they're constantly covering for each other.
I particular like how the moments held a sense of urgency-- it was a good reminder that all of these secrets are still under wraps. The tone change when Mikan finds out that Youko isn't in any of her birthday photographs hits like a pile of bricks, in a good way.
Joshua Reyes
I always liked how the background characters have a completely normal generic manga appearance compared to the unique style he uses for the mains
I love the detail put into their horrified poses and how they change it up.
Jayden Morales
So uh why did she use an illusion to show her "true from" in the early chapters, when her actually true form really is just as tall and busty as her illusion?
Joshua Long
She's her father's daughter
Levi Evans
I'll do Thanks Tarage!!
Camden Flores
>Just like the gyaru from Komi-san. pls don't remind me user
Jordan Jenkins
Read Our Precious Conversations, it's a shoujo but so far it's great.
Joseph Davis
She will lose and she will cry and it will be sad, even though she never had a chance and only really joined in the game late anyway. I suppose she's more comparable to slutwolf than alium in that way.
Stop that. Even fans of Alium know Dumpire should have won. It is just sad that Alium had to get hurt. She was best girl, but her winning would have been wrong.
