It's not a negative at all, but there's no other argument to debunk Chihaya x Arata so I'm not surprised you clung onto it.

Exactly, she never thought of more with Taichi whereas it was always different with Arata, and Suetsugu showed us this in the very beginning. Remember when Chihaya gets worried at the thought of Arata finding a girlfriend while not caring that Taichi was dating someone? Hell, look at pic-related. He has no way of knowing who Chihaya is speaking to due to the distance, but he can tell by expression because he knows that Arata is the only one that make Chihaya look like that. Taichi is aware that they their bond is on a different level which plays into the complex he has towards the guy.

Like I said, I feel her rejection makes it pretty clear how she feels about it. Even after they reconciled, Chihaya isn't shown thinking about his confession. It just seems like she wants to forget it happened in the first place. In one of the latest chapters, she seems to overhear Taichi tell Kana that he feels his feelings for her are fading, and what happens on her side in the next chapters? Nothing.

I agree, but I don't think the conclusion of that is returning his feelings. When Taichi confessed, I believe he knew that he would be rejected, but I don't think he thought it would happen in such a way where his feelings weren't even acknowledged sincerely which is exactly what happens since her mind goes to Arata. Which I believe Taichi was able to tell with his "the Chihaya who thinking about Arata is an exception" line. I think the conclusion of their relationship is for Chihaya to thank him not only for his feelings, but for everything he's done for and beside her all this years. I really do feel that Taichi simply wants to be acknowledged by her, the same way he wanted Arata to acknowledge him as a serious opponent.

I see you're coming from since Suetsugu could pull anything. She could even pull an ending where Chihaya doesn't get with any either of them. I just feel like there's been so groundwork from the very beginning in favor of Chihaya x Arata, and now with the story being so close to the start of the Meijin & Queen matches which will undoubtedly fill up a few volumes and lead us towards the end, I really can't see any other pairing happening in a way that is just as believable. Hell, look at how different the reactions to meeting both boys after quite some time in one of the first few chapters. Sure, Chihaya is happy is to see Taichi, but with Arata she bursts into tears and keeps repeating "I wanted to see you" over and over again. At the end of the day, this is a manga that revolves around Karuta and our heroine is a karuta idiot to the core. It's fitting for her character to end up with another karuta baka. If Suetsugu is aiming for Shinobu to become her dearest companion/friend, a connection which will be deeply rooted in karuta, then what makes you think she wouldn't pull the same for Chihaya's future romantic partner?
