Because Re:Zero was really popular when it aired. And Rem is the most popular character by far, 50% of the fanbase vote her as their favorite character. The same percentage of the anime viewers voted that way too, despite the anime director's efforts to erase her from the story. It amazes me how petty he was, he changed Subaru desperately grabbing Rem to stop her from sacrificing herself to the carriage being bumped and Rem falling into his arms.

Subaru in a flash back trial via the witch of greed talks with his dad, where confronts the fact that hes a neet that wont/cant go to school and how he doesn't understand why everyone around him treats him with contempt and doesn't just give up on him, abandon him, or beat him. He struggles with the memories of his former life and how he constantly had to live in the shadow of his father that he felt he failed to live up to. His father is trying to console him to which the pivotal question by him is asked if he likes a girl at his school and thats why he won't go. This question is more or less a proxy question as of "What is the reason why you are no longer the person you used to be?" And while Subaru was trying to think of Emilia being the only person to not care how are why Subaru was the way he was and never no matter what give up on him, he can only picture Rem, to which he tells his dad he has his one true feelings for Rem

Konosuba's world is pretty fucking generic and it's not fucked up at all. Kazuma becomes incredibly powerful pretty easily and assembles a harem without even trying. Even though he doesn't have a cheat skill he has a cheat skill of incredibly high luck and cannot lose a dice roll. He has billions of eris and literally cannot die as he has the Eris and Aqua's favor.

I wouldn't really call Re:Zero's world too fucked up. Much of what happens to Subaru early on is explicitly by Roswaal's design rather than anything else and most of the beast encounters (dogs, whale, rabbit) are basically due to the witch's smell lingering on him.

It's got a number of fucked up things that live in it, but the world itself doesn't seem too bad if you're not a walking target.
