Yes, very much so. Escapism in one form or another has been a constant of the human mind for untold generations, but it's come to a boil now thanks to the way society has structured itself.

People have become increasingly isolated not only from the natural world, but also from each other. Your needs as a social animal are not being met in the slightest, so you envision an escape to a world that still has these things in tact. This is most exemplified by the stereotypical NEET as a protagonist, who instead of curling deeper into a ball of isolation, instead breaks out of his shell, and slowly forms an intimate connection to an increasingly vast number of people, all located in a very green, open world that resembles a more medieval period. Add a large dose of power fantasy and you basically have these stories taking place 100+ years in the past, only with superpowered video game logic.

You could technically take it like that, but there is also the fact that the industry is taking their materials from amateur authors from the web more frequently now. The genre know as "Narou-kei" (Narou-type; なろう系） was born and many isekai-stuff is born from these web-short-stories.

So in a other perspective, you could say the proliferation of the genre is a symptom of "cannibalization" from the authors. Basically since many of them are amateurs they be more prone to copy popular works, which will feed more works of the same genre to be created by new authors.

If we go with the left, we could probably see more parodies as the years continue with the genre; or maybe not.

Other types of self-insert series (e.g. most of the romcoms out there right now) and even gook/chink self-insert shit are starting to become more popular. Outside of anime you'll see signs too. It started by people escaping to semi-fantastical 'far away lands', the chaotic American frontier, or South American jungle. This genre ended as world become so explorer and connected to make the premise implausible.
The next stage was space exploration. It's still alive, but a shadow of its former self. People no longer believe colonizing space is something that's possible.
Virtual/parallel world picked up soon after space genre, but has eclipsed it now because a vr world (technically possible) or parallel universe (easy to suspend disbelief) is more believable than getting into a ship to fly to another star system.

In isekai, there's no stress, and you're free to do whatever you want. In recent years, with the increasingly competitive job market, the aforementioned parties are under even more stress to avoid getting fired, or to find a good job quickly. So there are more people feeling stressed and trapped nowadays, hence, more people turn to escapism, hence isekai's rise in popularity. That's my take on it, anyways.

This is why isekai novels such as Overlord, The Faraway Paladin, and Isekai Ryouridou work, while the 200+ other pieces of self-fellating schlock on Novelupdates/Mangadex don't. The former uses Isekai as an origin story for the MC, not the main focus. Knowledge of the past world helps the MC but is never the true meaning of the story. It's always about the interesting characters, setting, and changes the new world brings and how the MC adapts to them. The latter uses Isekai as a crutch for anything and everything. Whatever, whoever MC is interacting with, it is "inferior" to the MC's and his advanced knowledge of his previous world. It's shallow and boring. Isekai stories like these are trash and only exist to show how childish the author is.

Godbinder - Cleric and Demonologist. Basically a Shaman who can make contracts with the Gods for boons.

Grandmaster - The DM, and also the Wizard. Can make 'rules' that change the game drastically i.e. "Anything in the air freezes. In this city, no Dictator powers work during the day." His weakness is that he can only maintain a certain number of rules at once.

I was thinking about that before I went to bed or I should say thinking about why isekai appeals to me and I came to the weird realization that it's not necessarily that I am discontent with my life (I am but bear with me here), as even if my life was great and living the chad life I think I would still come to the same conclusion.

This world is frankly just boring, realistically the entire planet has been discovered, the most major game breaking things have been invented, the only conflict that we really had as we developed society was with ourselves and using mundane weaponry. I think the main issue is personal powerlessness.

You can create such spells if the caster has a deep enough comprehension of Tribulation Lightning or has absorbed enough of it inside his body or soul. can someone seriously explain what makes overlord worth anything? At least some Isekai with Op MC have side character's struggles worth a damn but Ains' side is barely ever remotely threatened past Shaltear's "betrayal". It seems to relish humans are never worth a damn no matter how hard they try.

There's also a strong follow the leader aspect, since most isekai are derivative of previously popular isekai, which are either derivative of Dragon Quest or flat out MMORPGs.

Combine that with video games heavily cleaving to the monomyth and the power of escapism MMORPGs grant IRL; it's only natural for LitRPG to be the next level of fantasy. Shit, LitRPG as a concept was codified by the Russians, popped up in Korea (the Gamer) and got a movie in America (Ready Player One).

It's more of a focus on characters and world building over fights.

Yes, they are. It's a well documented social phenomenon that women target the top percentiles of men. Women try to marry up, and that includes a lot of fucking because sex is a currency.

FFXI was fantastic for a long time. Gear upgrades were marginal and most of the highest end gear was vanity, which made people go "Wow, that's awesome!" but all said and done made their biggest hits do maybe 300-500 damage more than you. All content could be cleared with a competent group of a wide variety of job combinations. It made the game keep its atmosphere, where you could enjoy the game and the challenge without being steeped in what you had to equip or what job you had to be to win. The game now, and pretty much every other games I've tried of late, quickly lose the flavor they were supposed to present and become rife with a playerbase that is obsessed with numbers.

I'm sure you'll like this one based on the cover alone. It's not introducing the american consitution, but it has something close enough and it hits the same kind of satisfiction that introducing-technology-advantage isekai has without having cheats that ruin your immersion.

It's a single book. Ends before it ever gets stale. There's an epilogue done by another author years after the events in the book, and it's a pretty fun and short read (very wanky though) to basically finish it off.

Monster invasions are a feature, not a world. That world in that story is already established in dealing with those monsters. There is no reason to stay in the monster realm or the fact there is no evidence of settling in that realm. Lastly that monster realm does not have an establishment of culture or society to separate itself from the host world it invades.

Because it's part of being able to start over as a person. The problem with Japanese people are they're not really known to immigrate and that their culture is pretty strict.
