Yeah the ending was a bit of a mess, I think. Lucy has been the character we care about for 12 episodes and suddenly she's sidelined. The wheelchair girl (Mariko?) has only been around a couple of episodes (and isn't done that well either). So the whole show only works if we can root for Nana & forget everything else.

Elfen Lied would have been much better if they cut all the obnoxious side characters, tuned down the comical levels of gore, and just focused on Lucy. Nyu and that faggot MC can take a hike.

Yes exactly it's the equivalent of a B movie, it might have an appeal to some people, but let's face it, the anime would have never had that success if it was like the manga. They disguised it as something serious, putting the focus on the cruelty on cute girls aspect, and it worked for a lot edgelord kids.

But as much as they tried they couldn't really make a grade A anime when the material was like that, I realized it immediately, the majority only realized it later.
