He will entice Kitarou to buy the gym membership and together the two of them will see mad gains.
But seriously, I really like the concept of a human rival who can match Kitarou's power. I'm sure we'll find out about his tragic history with Youkai, who are in some way culpable for the death of someone he loves, and he and Kitarou will get into multiple scrapes, but he'll come around after Kitarou (or another Youkai) selflessly saves him from himself when the powers he's absorbed finally overwhelm him. I predict he'll wind up 95% depowered but still pursuing exorcism in his free time (probably he'll go off on a training montage like the witches).

99% of the time when it comes to names the "Rei means zero" thing is false, but in this case his name actually IS "零"—"zero."
Nothingness is an inherently interesting concept for an antagonist to embrace, since you can't possibly argue against someone who believes in nothing. Beyond that, nothingness is an important religious concept in Japanese thought, and since Kitarou and his motley band are going to Hell this season, it seems appropriate that things are getting a bit more ontological.
