I stopped wanting to kill myself. Guess it's an improvement.
>Hope you're enjoying working on it.
Heh.
This is more of a /djt/ observation but I have no idea what the fuck the difference is between using を and は but I guess it doesn't matter since I'm learning nip to translate mostly text and not to speak it.
Use the /djt/ at /int/, it's miles better than the one at /jp/.
>How's that chapter coming along?
I'm too lazy to finish.
Wo is the object and ha is the topic, they're usually fairly distinct.
If your chapters don't get at the very least 10k views, they are unpopular and not worth translating.
Good thing I'm not shilling for youtube views then
Don't listen to and keep translating whatever you want to translate.
If you don't like whatever you are translating, it's not worth translating.
君を殺す = kill you
君は殺す = you're kill
>How's that chapter coming along?
Just relased it so leave me the fug alone. It's seinen though so not like that many care anyway. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also you should beg for money at any given opportunity you get
try scanlating something sexual
Both could be used with the same "I'll kill you" meaning though since は is pretty flexible as a '''topic''' marker, i.e. "As for you, I'll kill you".
Like "私はハンバーグ" when ordering at a restaurant.
It has a cheating housewife sucking dick and showing her tits every now and then, but guess it's not traditional-ecchi enough.
Consider reading any beginner level textbook first, before attempting to translate manga.
There's an invisible comma there
Try scanlating something that's actually good, rapeman-san.
I haven't translated anything except a few doujins but I feel like trying something. Only problem is, I don't want to rely on other but I also hate typesetting. Does anyone actually enjoy that shit?
I think it's good. ;_;
Better than the wasp shit at least which while fun in its own way is far more ridiculous in many others.
36 pages left to typeset... Kill me
Nip grammar is primitive, so context is everything. And that's what the particle does here, 君を殺す is going to be "I'll KILL you." and then 君は殺す will be more "I'll kill YOU (but I think I'll let your friend live)". Or something like that.
only 3 hours. shouldn't be a problem if you're a neet.
Disgusting.
NTR is life, moral degeneration is hometown.
>the /djt/ at /int/
They are actually using the thread for study. Absolutely disgusting, the only point that's lower is r/l*arnjap*nese
>not liking ntr
hey there underage loser who self insert as the chuck
I prefer typsetting over translating because my level isn't good enough to autopilot the translation. With typesetting I just put some music and shut my brain off.
Already posted this last thread but that one died really fast. I made an autohotkey script for automatically pasting the next line of dialogue into your image editor. Tutorial for setting it up inside the pastebin.

>using copy paste to typeset
>typing everything by hand
It's easier that way
>not typing everything by hand
you'll have to explain that to me.
>CLIP
How good is it for scanlating? Does it have cloning and all? I've only really used CLIP when I couldn't deal with the redrawing with the mouse and had to use a tablet. And photoshop just was horrible to use with a pen.
I've done dozens of chapters with my script in a word doc, while copy-pasting each line from it one-by-one. If you know of a better way I'd like to hear it m8.
even after you use that script to copy paste, you still need to use your hand to fit the texts into bubbles. same work. except without script, it feels more natural.
doing it in word or the like is better because a) spell-check and b) clean source to copy from after fucking with line spacing/etc.
no cloning functions I'm aware of. I just like using it because I have experience with it. haven't run into any problems though. I can easily recreate screentones with the built in functions.
>it feels more natural
nigga what.
of course you still have to adjust the text by yourself. but just having it autopaste into your editor cuts out a step that really doesn't need to be there.
Will I suffer if using GIMP for typesetting? So far it seemed handy enough.
Just use PowerPoint.
What is the cheapest option when importing used manga so the shipping fees won't kill you? I wish I could just use these scanning services but they're bad
Yes, a simple thing like giving text an outline is a chore compared to PS, and something with its font rendering (especially aliasing in some cases) seems off.
If you're redrawing too then definitely PS.
ebook
Old stuff from the 90's usually doesn't have ebooks
Ebook my dude. Or try asking elem if you want something scanned. He might respond.
Sup Rapeman.
90's manga are all shit anyway
Photoshop died for me and Adobe only does subscriptions now so I can't even upgrade my old copy anymore. I really should buckle down and learn GIMP or at least something else but after decades in photoshop it's really disheartening. I might try spinning up a VM for it also.
I'm sure you'll be fine if that's what you learn. It's not as if manga has remotely harsh typesetting reqs. When I last did a comparison photoshop had some niceties for cleaning so-so raws faster, but even that's probably long gone and I just haven't learned it. Photoshops longest enduring advantage was proper color and particularly CMYK/LAB but that's irrelevant for this.
tl;dr: GIMP is fine. Or probably most of the other halfway decent paint programs. If photoshop had a free hobbyist edition or something it'd be worth looking at but otherwise if you're not already attached to it don't bother.
Man, if I handed over my script to a typesetter and after he was done I noticed he had added his own typos to mine, I'd assume I'm talking to an actual monkey sat in front of a PC running Photoshop.
I love GIMP, but it lacks a few crucial features, like rotating or otherwise deforming text, adding outlines, and most of the typographical stuff.
>I love GIMP, but it lacks a few crucial features, like rotating or otherwise deforming text, adding outlines, and most of the typographical stuff.
That's mostly for doing an extra nice job if you want to match SFX and the like. Which is fun stuff granted for a series you really care about, but someone starting out who can just do a basic job in bubbles is fine without it.
Can't you just use a not-so-legal version of photoshop?
>tfw started to just make white boxes instead of redrawing
>got literally zero (0) complains about it
Damn, this saves a lot of time.
I don't want to bother the guy and he probably has to pay for shipping as well which is what I want to avoid
You are shit
EOP readers have NO power whatsoever. they can't do anything.
There's a way to add outlines, though somewhat awkward. Maybe there are plugins that make it easier to use, I dunno.
Do you want the actual, physical book? It'd be way simpler if you can settle with digital scans.
As for him minding being bothered or whatnot, asking can't hurt. Last time I checked he didn't really mind.
Yeah people don't really give a shit. I've seen lots of isekais with absolutely disgusting typesetting and zero redrawing, some didn't even bother cleaning the text. No one bat an eye.
If you're working with a team make sure you agree on the software since working with different file formats (.xcf to .psd) works.. wonky at best.
PS is more standard.
Oh yeah, it's definitely servicable, and I've typeset a few chapters in it, but you still need to typeset things like text outside of bubbles, which needs a white outline, or those little bits of handwritten text some authors like to add here and there, usually at an angle. Photoshop just makes your life easier. Except for the control scheme(?) which gives me cancer every time.
>Can't you just use a not-so-legal version of photoshop?
Yeah that'd be another option, but I've been out of the piracy scene for that kind of software for a long ass time though so getting back in and finding quality sources that aren't full of bitcoin miners or whatever would take time too. Will have to start from scratch. I'll probably try to VM approach first, just because it'd be useful in other areas so this is a good excuse to get familiar with it anyway right?
I mean don't get me wrong I'm somewhat venting/bitching over a lot of stuff that I find irritating on a basic level, I find it insulting that this isn't better handled period. Not like I'm unwilling to shell out money even. I've got some vacation coming up so I'll muster my lazy ass and figure something out, but
>"I give you money, you give me an upgrade that won't vanish on me if I don't pay you every month forever"
no longer being a thing for important software will eternally piss me off. Fuck.
This is actually kind of similar to what pisses me off about a lot of manga and anime commercial works: that they're so often just plain objectively worse than the fanworks. Like again, I don't even mind paying money, but it's insulting to have the paid thing be shittier, or worse literally not be allowed to do so because lolwrongregion.
Feels like we got on the wrong timeline somewhere here.
And then the guy that complains is going to be called entitled by everyone else, brilliant.
>working with a team
ha ha good joke
my typesetter vanished somewhere around october
I'm just doing some pages for practice, but I honestly think paint.net is the easiest to use. And I'm lazy and refuse to translate any sound effects.
>If you're working with a team make sure you agree on the software since working with different file formats (.xcf to .psd) works.. wonky at best.
>PS is more standard.
That's actually a really good point in general, I've solo'd so many doujins and short series for a while that I'd forgotten the group experience. But yeah if you're with a group having everyone use the same $thing is worth a lot, no matter what $thing is. Just the consistency and not having odd conversion errors and shit is a huge annoyance saver.
>I've seen lots of isekais with absolutely disgusting typesetting and zero redrawing, some didn't even bother cleaning the text. No one bat an eye.
But people who read isekai are animals who don't deserve anything better anyway.
>not having a whole orbit of editors just waiting for you to give them a chance
How much do fan TL groups actually make? Some have patreons while others do those annoying adverts on their own websites.
My condolences. I'm sure you can find another if you poke around enough.
>sound effect
That's aight. You don't really need to unless it's vital to the context and is not immediately obvious to the readers without translation.
Enough to keep a woman and her NEET son alive for 15-odd years.
enough to fund a dying mother for 15 years
I've had some good chaps give me a total of ten bucks over the last year. Pretty sure you make a fuckton more if you do isekai and has a site and/or patreon
>That's aight. You don't really need to unless it's vital to the context and is not immediately obvious to the readers without translation.
As a practical matter too hiragana/katakana are the most trivial thing to learn, and by definition sound fx are purely phonetic so if you can read the character sounds you don't actually need to know any words. To some extent, particularly for niche stuff only super weebs will read anyway, you can just lean on your readers here. They can learn that much. Similar to honorifics, readers should just fucking spend 5 minutes on wikipedia the first time they see them if they're confused and learn it.
I've considered doing this too.
It's easier to work alone anyway, unless you're doing something big with lots of redraws
I thought the mother had been hospitalized for longer than that now? Though given burgerland medical system and nursing homes and shit it's not even that unbelievable.Kirei also wins points for actually consistently doing pretty awesome and unique series. I've tossed a few bucks that way, It's My Life, Lovecraft Sister, Arachnid, UDDUP, those alone worth plenty of entertainment to me.
>by definition sound fx are purely phonetic so if you can read the character sounds you don't actually need to know any words
Well, you'd think. Only like half of them make an actual sound in the first place, and the rest is pretty arbitrary anyway.
I have nothing to do now. Any suggestion for new manga with guaranteed e-peen?
Kirei makes between 850~1100 every month, jamini's around 900 and meraki was making 1800 with solo leveling and magic returnee source: my ass
>I can easily recreate screentones with the built in functions.
How hard would it be to recreate these screentones? The mangaka uses them a lot and I always just try and clone tool over them, which never ends up looking well.
I mean it's great that kusocake is scanlation shitload of manga, people are probably willing to give him money just for that reason alone, but it's just pathetic that he keeps using this shitty shameless guilt trip trick.
I feel the same way. Waiting around on other people is just tedious, especially if they won't keep up communication and like to procrastinate.
My Japanese is alright and my editing is passable. I suck at redrawing though, so no sound effects are getting translated, and then I just have to do my best to center the text in the bubbles.
Jack of all trades and master of none!
Anything with the word "isekai", "tensei" or "slave" in the title.
> something big with lots of redraws
The senryu redrawers are amazing. I wish people could appreciate them more.
Anything centered on a specific fetish will give you a small but guaranteed audience
Or if you really want to trash your dignity, furries
>Well, you'd think. Only like half of them make an actual sound in the first place, and the rest is pretty arbitrary anyway.
Well yeah but it's the same as English, there are standardized onomatopoeias the japs use, they're different they're still phonetic where the sound is the word, and you can tell what it is from context (or read a basic cheat list that has most of them). I mean we're talking about scanlating here most SFX typesets are just transcribing to English phonetics anyway not trying to shift it to a localized onomatopoeia on top.
I guess you're right once in a while it really matters, but rarely is it a high priority. There is always the ultra lazy option of *[SFX footnote] too I guess, though I've not resorted to that one because if I dislike a series enough to not care to that degree I'd rather just fucking drop it.
too bad the actual manga and anime is shit.
Nigga put the text first then finish the blank spots, it's way easier than doing the whole thing.
>I have nothing to do now. Any suggestion for new manga with guaranteed e-peen?
I'm sure you'd have no shortage of suggestions for much loved series that got dropped or stalled out over the last few years. Not sure about e-peen but some of them are pretty good manga, just not mainstream enough.
I have been trying to find online raws for Young King Ours and other Young King series, but can't seem to find them anywhere. You'd think such a popular magazine would be easier to find digital copies of.
It's a strange feeling when you see a manga with great redrawing and typesetting but a really awkward translation with many grammatical errors.
MD is dead?
good manga is worthless.
I need e-peen.
Yup. PR is very always important.
>shitload of manga
Less that it's a lot, more that I think he's had better then average taste and does a decent job.
>but it's just pathetic that he keeps using this shitty shameless guilt trip trick.
I've wondered about that too over the years. But I recently had a grandfather who developed dementia and was alone and I needed to be point person to deal with it and holy shit are things in America a horrorshow a lot of the time, and an expensive and ongoing one with tons of room for family drama and medical drama and fights of wills and powers of attorney and bills and waiting lists for care and shit that can drag on for many, many years. Not saying kirei is telling the truth I dunno, but it opened my eyes a lot. If I last until 90 and no better option has come along I'm going to send my kids and family/friends some nice letters, tidy everything up with my lawyer, and shoot myself. Fuck dementia/alzheimers.
They can go together if it's something that had a big following of people begging for it for a while.
This is bad, please don't post this as an example of a good redraw. I had to rush the chapter. And couldn't distinguish between how good or bad it looked.
The text doesn't help 90% of the time.
>>too bad the actual manga and anime is shit.
>be scanlator
>understand the kind of work it actually takes very well
>see some other person or group's work
>godly technical redrawing/typesetting/translation, tons of attention to detail, so much love clear
>all spent on something that doesn't justify that effort one bit
it's a weird feel
>manga
You take that back!
> anime is shit.
Yes.
The subs were hilarious though.
>The text doesn't help 90% of the time.
Agreed. I've dreamed of someone being autistic enough to create a digitized library of every single screen tone sold to mangaka they can find, then an ML tool that can search that screen tone library to automatch anything you see in a manga, and aid easy alignment, so you can just reapply wholesale instantly over an arbitrary area. It would be glorious.
>not using the high effort indonesian fansubs
TL Note: those subs really rustled my bento box.
This is why people just use white boxes and fit the new translation in that.
everything but top right is pretty doable. if you take a bit more time than I did, you can even (depending on the type of screentone) pretty easily remove the repeat marks.
Nice TS.. wait no, this is the anime. Whoa.
That's amazing. Guess I'll be spending time figuring out how screentones work in CLIP. Thanks a bunch, user. Also, Did you use the default library?
Where is your 5-7-5 translation, burgerfags?
No fucking way. These are paid subs right? So much effort for this.
Can someone get me the new EBJ script? The old one doesn't work.
You're not being serious are you? Quality subs used to happen fairly regularly before the English subbing scene died.
It's a norm that fansubs put way more effort than official instant subs. nothing weird about that.
I mostly just find a repeatable section in the screentones present on the page and repeat that over the whole page under a mask and the crosshatching screentone to make it look less monotone. So yes, default.
Give me the old one first.
Anyone here knows how people color the 5tobun manga?
bucket fill paint
Here: pastebin.com
Doesn't stay long though.
This one again huh.
I already fixed it, here: pastebin.com
Could even go as far as "you'll kill" depending on context.
Just tested it, it works fine.
Thank you very much.
You're talking about senryuu? What's wrong with the translation?
No, not about senryuu. The last time I saw this was in Planetes
They sometimes talk about how they colour. They use PS and/or SAI. If you want anything specific, you're better off asking in the general on /c/
Should we have a forum or a private tracker for raw manga?
Thanks, that looks really useful. Will give it a shot later
That would've been nice, finding raws is a chore
There are such things, and specialized sites that deal only in raw manga. You should be able to get some lists pretty easily from any scanlator gathering spots if nowhere else. There are even readers with lots of raw stuff like lhscan.net. A lot of groups and individuals order their own though too, particularly for anything unusual. Shit raws are also such an enormous time sink to get into even moderate condition it's better to just buy a copy if at all possible.
Why bother typesetting if you're just gonna half-ass it.
Just use Photopea if you can't get photoshop for some reason.
Because it saves a ton of dumb labor.
Only if you invite me in
When searching for something you should use the japanese name and sites like keydb.telegrip.info for old stuff and DDL blogs like 13dl.net and manga-zone for new stuff. If you get no hits then you can be 99% sure it was never shared.
Sometimes I've started a series because I thought it was one thing, then another volume or two come out and it goes downhill but I've felt obligated to try to at least get to a finishing point, but all motivation is gone. Like, not that I haven't just dropped shit too, but at least twice I forced my way through at least to finish a volume in a hurry but got lazy about it (and marked it as [LQ] in case anybody ever wanted to do a better job). Another case is when it's really fucking good, but the raws are ultra garbage and there is absolutely nothing else available (and it's out of print too). Still put in more effort then a simple white box yeah, but far less then I would otherwise because there is no point, it's just wasting time on something that will be mediocre quality no matter what. If it gets out there though and other people like it sometimes somebody digs up a higher quality scan or makes one down the road.
Hard to find a dedicated typesetter. And if they're a one person group then the time they'd spend typesetting could be used to translate other series.
It's not like anyone will ever call you out on it anyway
Did the user that requested the raws for Aida ni Hatachi ever started working on it?
Does anyone here work with commissions? I want to know how much I should charge to translate those avant garde chinese scrolls while being confident that what I'm asking for is neither too much nor too little.
where is ripper user? he's dead again for weeks now.
>no cloning
I've used cloning for typesetting in Clip Studio Paint. It's a sub tool.
clip-studio.com
Just finished the script. Longest chapter I had to work on yet and trying to figure out the god damn russian names from the katakana was hell.
I hate redrawing
He'll show up when/if he shows up, even if anyone here actually knew him personally it's not like they'd tell you that he's on vacation in Hawaii or that he's in jail for statutory rape. Be patient or get another raw source, there are publicly available ripping tools for most stores if you buy shit yourself, it's very rude to whine publicly about someone you want to do you a favor not reacting quickly enough to your request.
I’m just fucking tired.
All of our readers are speedreaders who can’t even remember what happened in the previous chapters but they have the audacity to complain in the comments/threads that the “story doesn’t make sense.”
Newfag here, are redrawers usually typesetters as well or does it depend on what's being worked on?
Choke on a dick, maybe? That's very popular these days.
always different. I just typeset and fix minor shit while the people i work with include a dedicated redrawer that takes care of everything that i'm not able to fix in a couple of minutes.
Translator got back to me and said maybe there will be work eventually. Okay.
Seems to depend on group size/preferences. I personally do all the cleaning, redrawing, typesetting, and proofreading on what I work on now.
That sounds like a huge task doing all those things on your own, but I suppose it's sort of better than waiting for others to get their job done.
If there's a lotof people who know their shit, every one should do their own job. If it's a one man gig, well.
It's not too bad, I can do everything on one pass so it's quite a bit faster and the TL only gets around to translating a chapter like every 3 months.
>I personally do all the cleaning, redrawing, typesetting, and proofreading on what I work on now.
Same. Except for the "now" part and "not scanning" part. I've always done everything all by myself. I do my best to make sure everything I do is done really well.
This isn't everything I've done, but you can see the quality of work I do here.
exhentai.org
I do all cleaning, redrawing and typesetting on my manga. I know a few people who went from being redrawers to being typesetters out of necessity. It's a much easier job too.
Nice, I thought it died.
After looking through some of your pages from what you linked, it looks like your levels are a bit too high, making the contrast too high. Minor points about typesetting line breaks and stroke width, but otherwise, they're alright.
oh interesting. thank you for telling me.
I can assure my leveling is spot on. Because it's not even like you have to just estimate or guess at leveling.
You make one levels layer as set its values to 5:1:7. Then you make your actual leveling layer and just turn the black value up until it's visible. That way you know it's exactly black and not going over.
So that's how you do it, huh.
What I've always been doing is to create a new levels layer and set the gray between 0.75 and 0.85.
>My levels are spot on
>Goes entirely past the black peak of the histogram by a large margin
>It's exactly black
Yeah, that's overleveled as fuck.
Pic related, your method.
Oh dear, if it were only so simple. What you do is 100% overleveling.
Go ask in the sadpanda forums. Don't expect people to pay you for non porn manga.
That's why you shouldn't give a shit about them.
You're working with shit magazine scans done with a 50 year old scanner.
Try working with something that starts in gray scale and doesn't have a ruined color palate.
What. No you do don't do any of that shit you just make an adjustment layer and use the histogram. That's what it's for.
Sorry, I picked a mag page because that was the closest quality I had to SJ.
Oh, and peak on the black histogram isn't actually solid black to the naked human eye.
Never said it was, bud. Just take the advice or don't, you don't need to go full damage control.
>say something wrong
>gets proven wrong
>tries to accuse other people of damage control
You should name your files in a less autistic way.
exhentai.org
You also picked something where the uploader changed the leveling and contrast on every single page he scanned.
Looks overleveled to me.
You leveled a color indexed image, for some reason up scaled it to 4k from 3k, and over leveled on purpose.
In case you didn't know, don't ever export colored index because to destroys gray scaling.
Also don't swap from indexed to gray scale, then go back to indexed. That screws with gray scaling as well.
>not being good enough to just press crtl+L and do it by eye
>not scanlating to an exact science
I bet you don't even use the script that mathmatically centers text in the dead center of a speak bubble.
Leveled using method. So yes, overleveled.
Check the file size, used raw images from the mega link. I downscaled it from 6000. Was never indexed to begin with, only reason it's indexed now is because I need to use Save for Web to make it fit the tiny image limit.
Not him, but I was thinking about that a while ago, does it actually exist? What's the algorithm?
How do you denoise digital raws without destroying the screentone?
No, you clearly didn't use that method. Or at least not correctly. Because you also screwed up the white leveling as well. Which didn't even need to be changed.
Red Hawk Scans forums used to have it. Not sure where to find it these days.
I saw user here was doing Arai's KISS Kyoujin Sora wo Tobu a while ago, are you still there? Is there any progress?
No I don't use any scripts at all. I do everything manually. I prefer to think, learn and get good. Being so low IQ that you need an algorithm to do everything for you is pathetic.
I'm not, but it's done
It's literally impossible for the human eye to calculate pixels life that.
Posting Yea Forums reaction image shit is what's really pathetic.
It's literally impossible for the human eye to calculate pixels like that. A script can do it faster and better. Enjoy wasting more of your own time for a lower quality result.
Posting Yea Forums reaction image shit is what's really pathetic.
Why are translators such assholes? I'll never understand why they have to bash other translations/translators like there's no tomorrow for not translating something the way they want to (so it's not like it's wrong, just not to their liking) and they will spend half of their time just shitting on others?
Either that or just being massive assholes to anyone in general, i don't get it.
why are readers being ungrateful fucks? you're getting free shit, stop complaining you fucks.
Most translations I read I realize they're loose on purpose so it doesn't bother me.
What are you talking about? I'm not insulting a translator's work, i'm asking why do they have to constantly be at eachother's throat.
Did i hit a nerve?
give proof and example.
Your are the first piece of evidence.
>noo dude it's not meee am no translatador
Yeah sure let me find the proof because i obviously saved every single piece of conversation from this shithole, first one that comes to mind is the Kengan Asura translator (the one that did the Yea Forums translations ages ago).
>Why are translators such assholes?
In my case because I despise people, most of them are, literally, functional retards, and not because I'm a translator. Though I do hate other translator that think they are too smart for being able to speak in another language, they are not.
Get Affinity Designer and report back afterwards.
Kengan's translator is very shit, yes.
What's wrong with being an asshole?
You smell.
Because all you do is spout shit.
>A script can do it faster and better
Then why don't we just put Japanese text through google translate?
>Enjoy wasting more of your own time for a lower quality result.
So something that has been cleaned by someone who has years of experience and doesn't need to use algorithms, is lower quality than something shit out by some stupid scrub who doesn't even understand a histogram?
>Posting Yea Forums reaction image shit is what's really pathetic.
Calling someone pathetic for posting an image on an image board is peak reddit.
>translate with Google translate
>rephrase it when the sentence doesn't make any sense based on context
>draw white boxes over text
>typeset in whatever manga default font
>no one will EVER call me out on it
lmaoing @tryhards ITT
>readers call author a shit hack when plot points don’t connect due to mistranslations
>affinity designer
wtf, why?
>get shit raws and just topaz the fuck out of them
nothin personnel kid
>Hard to find a dedicated typesetter
lolwut
That's the easiest thing to find, especially if it's someone that's eager to help scanlation groups, but don't speak or read nip and are ESL or have not creative writting experience. Unless you're gay as fuck, typesetters are easy to find. Hardest is finding translators since a lot will either work on their own or just read the nip version and not care about people that can't read nip.
Training them is another thing though.
TS are easy to find, but they disappear as quickly. Good and dedicated guys are rare.
It's not exactly about being low-iq, but more into time-saving. I used to do it by hand and I got pretty good eye for it now, pretty much can tell at first sight if it's off by 2 pixels, but this shit sucks to do it bubble by bubble for 30+ pages.
That's why you should always go solo.
and don't scanlate more than 1 series at once.
maybe 2 if monthly.
Anyone got a link for the raws for Kaze no Ou by Kitoh Mohiro?
My worst fear as a translator is how there's always a chance I got something wrong and someone denounces me for it. I read raw manga regularly and I understand pretty much everything, to the point I can even point out others' translation mistakes. Even light novels aren't a problem unless they drop chuuni jargon on me.
But if I'm the one under scrutiny, my confidence drops down to zero. The feeling is doubled as I'm ESL, and tripled as I have no JLPT certificate to show. If someone did denounce me for a mistake I didn't think I'd make, I'd likely drop whatever series I'm working on just so I don't taint it further with mistranslations. That's how much of a coward I am.
Lmfao I've seen people getting away with literally machine translations for years, nobody cares
I'd say just accept that you're gonna make mistakes and hope that if you do, there will be someone to correct it. Making a mistake and never being corrected is arguably even scarier.
I dunno, my group was pretty much built from the ground up and I've only ever lost 1 typesetter (and he hadn't been there for long anyway) and the others usually work in a timely manner as long as they have a script. I think you just work with shitty groups, bub.
You’re more likely to get dissed in live translation threads because moonruners drop by to read the raws.
Hold up. What kind of mistakes?
Misreading a kanji or fucking up the entire meaning of a sentence?
I don't think many people know or use it, but the latest version of paint.net does a pretty good job with regular speech bubbles. Mostly because their default leading for many of good fonts is fairly decent, so you don't have to adjust it yourself. And you can always PS for the more complex bubbles or when the defaut leading for a certain font in Paint.net sucks.
Language is not mathematical like leveling and distances.
>any image is fine because it's an image board
Weren't you the one trying to call people low IQ before? How embarrassing.
Oneshots released 10 years ago in a magazine and never reprinted anywhere else are always impossible to find.
Both. Not too long ago with kanji, for example, I almost confused 滅 with 減, which kind of made sense in that context but it was still an incorrect translation. For meaning, I once got dangerously close to mistranslating a line due to a false assumption, and the only reason I didn't have to go back to fix it was because I left a stiffer, literal translation in place, which was both a blessing and a curse in hindsight.
And there's always the risk of me understanding what's being said, but botching the translation because the words I picked brought a hidden meaning that wasn't in the original.
If you look at it that way, you're right. It's still a shit feeling since the first release of a translation is usually what spreads everywhere.
True. I usually check live translation threads. What I do is not as much as dissing as it is just me quoting lines writing the correct lines under them.
>Language is not mathematical like leveling and distances.
Leveling isn't purely mathematical either. To correctly level an image you need to take the highlights to white, take the shadow to black, preserve the midtone and do it with minimal detail loss. The best way to do this is by using your eyes.
>Weren't you the one trying to call people low IQ before? How embarrassing.
Reaction images have been part of image board culture for over fifteen years. If you don't like this aspect of image boards, you will probably find reddit and traditional forums more to your liking. Complaining about anime reaction images on Yea Forums is the height of fucking newfaggotry.
>me quoting lines writing the correct lines under them
Quality control.
Chaos!
No, leveling is mathematical. Sorry to burst your bubble.
And no again, you posting Yea Forums tier shit is not Yea Forums like. Stop trying to so hard to fit in.
>Costanza
>Touhou
>Yea Forums
my 日本語 level is still kinda low i need to learn a lot more kanji, will probably do so after i graduate uni, but im interested in translating stuff
am i just supposed practice translating baby stuff like yotsuba and git gud? where would i go after that?
Obviously, after babbies first manga you take up babbies second manga.
Just pick something you'll enjoy, it's always gonna feel like dragging your dick through broken glass, but that way at least it'll be satisfying at the end.
And if you're not a moron, you can start actually translating simple stuff relatively quickly. Just don't tell anyone you're shit, and edit yourself.
If it's mathematical as you say and not a visual skill why are the examples you posted over leveled?
>And no again, you posting Yea Forums tier shit is not Yea Forums like. Stop trying to so hard to fit in.
The invasion of people like you are why this board went to shit.
>Costanza
Why are there so many anime edits of the original from Yea Forums?
>Touhou
Newfag who doesn't know what Yea Forums was like before the split
can anyone rip shirogane no nina missing chapters from cr?
also what ever happened to donyatsu?
dead? cancelled? eternal hiatus?
That's what I plan to do as well. But I'll put in slightly more effort and double check my Google translations.
You calling them other leveled doesn't mean they are. And you're still trying really hard to fit in.
If I think that something is over leveled and you don't, could it be that leveling is subjective and not mathematical like you claim?
>And you're still trying really hard to fit in.
I'm not the one that berated someone for posting a reaction image on Yea Forums.
WAIT, MY GUY, YOU STILL HERE?
uh other redrawer here. I recognize that screentone because I've had to deal with it a few times now.
It's been used in previous chapters, I'll ask the editor guy to give you the link to my google drive.
I'll start sorting out useful pages to copy off of in a folder.
Post your own
Don't worry about it. Alot of action series translators change the dialogue on purpose to make it sound cooler in English. They even come up with entire sentences to replace "Ah!" and "Oh!" in the bubbles. Let's not forget when they turn questions into declarations.
It was this idea of liberal translation that made me realize I could translate however I want and justify any mistranslation as having done it on purpose.
>My worst fear as a translator is how there's always a chance I got something wrong and someone denounces me for it.
Own it like a man you little fag, and then fix the mistake.
I don't think it has wordwrap, but I can just hit enter to make sure the words stay in the bubbles. And once I'm done I can use the little arrow box to move the entire sentence in the bubble as I see fit to center it. It feels alot easier and faster than using Gimp.
>could it be that leveling is subjective and not mathematical like you claim?
No, you're just wrong. Black is black. That's literally the whole point of this. No detail loss and the color code being a perfect 0000 is objectively leveled correctly.
>berated
I made a five word sentence about it, and you got super ass hurt because you thought you were being cool and fitting in.
>you thought you were being cool and fitting in.
And what are you doing now? Peak projection.
>no u
Nice.
>Let's not forget when they turn questions into declarations
That depends on the situation, honestly. Sometimes that's the correct way to translate it, even if there's a big old question mark at the end, because the Nips use those like complete fucktards sometimes.
And I think when translating manga you need to focus mostly on making it easy to read, without any weird constructions because you absolutely had to preserve some minute detail. It's okay to change sentence order, punctuation, swap passive/active voice, shift text between connected bubbles and in general do whatever you want to make it sound good. Of course, that's without removing any important information.
Shall we settle this? vs. Let's settle this!!
And it used phrasing that showed it was asking a question and it ended in "ka".
Is it okay dropping a manga because the fanbase is poisonous? I would look at the comments in MD and in here whenever a new chapter comes out and the 'fans' just argue off topic about which chacter they want to fuck and this character got robbed. Then it would devolve into insulting the hardworking artists.
It really is demoralizing.
Well, that was probably a question then. But "ka" can just as well mean "I wonder if maybe we should settle this.", it's more of a "I wonder" kind of particle, because asking questions directly is shitsurei as fuck.
Which manga
What series? And I've learned that just about every fan base is at least partially toxic.
Like 「決着を付けようか」?
Depends on the context and the personality of the character to be honest.
Seems fine to me.
If it makes you lose interest, then sure. But make sure to write up a few paragraphs about the toxic fanbase and stick it at the end of the last chapter you release.
He's reserved, which is why it felt so odd when I read the translation compared to the raw.
Japanese is full of roundabouts like this that soften the impact of the statement.
>He's reserved, which is why it felt so odd
That's understandable.
>Let's not forget when they turn questions into declarations.
But you should also understand that there are cases where characters can be making a "statement that is generally agreeable" using でしょ(う)/か/だよね/etc.
It depends on the series, of course, but anything with any kind of nonstandard work will make you want to quit
despite how much of a total FSFag as i am, it's not hard to get PS working well enough on linux, so I just do that. although i use a ramdisk for it, it works just fine with my 6GB on my seven year old thinkpad.
How much stuff have you released since the start of the year? 4 complete volumes and change.
This is why you should ancient translate series no one reads instead of whatever is the 'hot new thing.' Then the odds of someone showing up who's also read the raws pretty much drops to zero.
Is anyone taking up hatigarm on the anjou cleaning thing? is it really that hard to clean raws appropriately?
Released only like 8 chapters, but I handed off a whole volume to the editors, so that'll be trickling out slowly.
github.com
Does anyone use this?
Am I just super dumb? How do I get it to recognize that I have MSVCP140D, or is there anything similar to this?
Why are you even bothering with comments on md?
What's wrong with them? Depends on the series, but I've thought they were pretty decent.
Does anyone else get harassed for uploading doujin of non-canon couples on exhentai? I know there's one guy that goes nuts over yuri but I sometimes get it on futa doujin aswell.
I've never translated porn, but I'm pretty sure I know who you're talking about.
>itadakimaaaasu!
I've never been harassed, but I mostly deal with loli stuff. Report him and get him banned.
Stop caring about MD commenters. I like the site and the staff, but some of the commenters are complete fucking imbeciles, especially FredFriendly with his creepy fucking profile pic and that one other dude that doesn't know what NTR means and just parrots it everywhere (he's actually the most blocked person on the site.)
But, yeah, never bother with commenters on manga sites. Just shoot shit with your staff and all is fine.
Any kind anons reshare the ripper?
I'm the asking user here. Can do this. But before that, are you here?
Yeah thank you.
