Maybe the best looking cel-made sci-fi anime I've ever seen, after Akira.
That fucking twist in the last episode too, wew.

In an alternate universe, Martian Successor Nadesico is the timeless classic while Evangelion was forgotten with time, and people are worshiping Ruri, the queen of moe, instead of Rei.
Sadly, we live in the wrong universe.

Ghost in The Shell, Jin-Roh, Patlabor, and Wings of Hommenaise exist.

Only seen half of those but Patlabor and Jin-roh can't compete outside of the couple of scenes they're each famous for.

nice

How are translations for the Nube manga going? I wanted to read the whole thing a few years back but there were gigantic chunks missing. It's even worse after I found out there was a continuation manga recently.

Shoujo Kakumei Utena

Is there any chance at all that the anime would be remade? Manga was extremely underrated.

These should be reposted as much as possible so that they'd never be lost in the internet.

>These should be reposted as much as possible so that they'd never be lost in the internet.
I can't tell if that's irony or not.

Attached: nube0044.jpg (2460x1200, 470K)

No irony here. I've lost pints of cum to Miki.
I've also realized last year that gigabytes of saved images are easily fucked over by a HDD that just suddenly decides not to work with no immediate warning.

Patlabor oav is great.

Heidi is comfy af and LOGH is very good, I thought I wouldn't like it since I'm not into space war drama but here we are

Attached: heidi.png (720x1646, 2M)

Oh wow, I think this was legitimately my first anime when I was about 6 years old. I never realized that was an anime until just recently (same with Biene Maja, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maya_the_Honey_Bee).

German opening is still great as ever.
youtube.com/watch?v=Pu7MjOd0o0Y

Funny enough, I was planning of watching Maya after I was done with Heidi and LOGH

Sadly, the only torrents I've found are raws and have no seeds

Maybe a bit off topic but do you anons know a site where i can read the nube manga with COMPLETE chapters? The ones im seeing online seems to be missing some

Jesus Christ, I cannot get anymore erect than this. No 14 year old should be that sexual.
Poor Nube must have the bluest of balls, otherwise he'd have fapped so much that he would need the oni hand after his human hand fails.

The simple solution is get an off site backup service. A few bucks a month and you can blissfully rest knowing your anime porn is safe somewhere in the cloud if your HDD dies.

Or you can buy a NAS

how buoyant

how floofy

Sure, but what if your house burns down? Cloud backup is also in case the worst happens. I mean, sure, if your house burns down anime porn is probably the least of your concerns, but if you have anything ELSE valuable you want to back up, you're covered.

Don't bully.

There's a non-zero risk of losing data stored in the cloud

I'm rewatching To Heart since it's the 20th anniversary of its airing.

Finished Utena TV around a week and a half ago, can't bring myself to watch anything else.
It was just too good and it'll never happen again.

floof is good though

it's a classic shot, also seen in the film "Bikini Island" which you should watch

why are pre-2000 shows aesthetically way better than modern moeshit?

Attached: nadia-of-the-mysterious-seas.jpg (1440x750, 314K)

Cel animation. It better lets you introduce a certain artistic fuzziness to the appearance.

Fuck don't remind me. God damn it.

Lol, read VN. Anime is bad.

>That fucking twist in the last episode too, wew.
It was super expected.

Nube's BDs look comfy for a 16mm telecine.

Pre-2000 aesthetic definitely doesn't suit if you're going for comfy shit.

MSN was pretty boring IMO, but Ruri is cute.

Attached: Hoshino.jpg (1536x2184, 462K)

I think Giant Robo was scanned in 4K for its BluRay. It was a massive project for the 90s, so it probably just had money tossed at it more than most things.

I'm still going to work on Maison Ikkoku. It definitely has that 80s languid pace akin to KOR where barely anything happens during an episode.

Not for me it wasn't.

Just watched dragons heaven. The dialogue and relation ship between the mech and the girl was great

I was continuing my quest to watch every anime OP in order when I stumbled across something wholly unique:
myanimelist.net/anime/9882/High_School_Mystery__Gakuen_Nanafushigi

To my knowledge, this unsubbed show is the only TV anime of its kind. It resembles the hyper violent 80's/90's OVA of the time. No other anime on TV looks like this before or since. From what I gather each episode is a new Demon/Legend cursing someone, kind of like Junji Ito short stories. People die pretty regularly, and we do see blood, though obviously as a TV show it's not gonna be gory like an OVA. I really hope this gets subbed/I learn Nip someday, this looks really cool.

Really bro? Just watched ep 1 and it was one of those worst and blandest kind of ghost stories. The art style made it even worse.

>Japanese
>has micro penis
Pick two

That's your opinion man. I love ghost stories like that. Everything that came before on TV was horror/comedy, and it would be years after until we got more genuine horror and by then you are looking at late 90's early 00's art. This is the only TV anime at the time doing this. I really like the art, even if it is cheap.

Just an upscale based on what I could gather from machine TL'd amazon reviews.

Upscale, but ironically the upscale managed to mask some of the issues with the R2J so it's probably fine to go with it. KareKano is a shitshow no matter what source it is.

Pic related was truly terrible I only continued to watch it because it was somewhat interesting for the first 2 or 3 episodes.

Rate their tastes.

Attached: August 1997 Rankings.jpg (1280x931, 466K)

Well fuck, it turns out that's from 2002.

I don't know what it is, but personally I can't stand Slayers very much. I think it's because it comes from that period in the late 80s/early 90s where Japan first discovered the fantasy/sorcery setting in the mainstream thank to video games and it always has that very silly and fake feel about it. Bring on your hatred, but that's how I feel.

>god i wish that were me

KareKano was definitely shot on film though, right? Since it's 1998. It's unbelievable that they'd even release a BD unless they're going to bother with a telecine.

All that 90s face. And Belldandy. It'd be nice if they could do another OVA run to finish off the story.

Shot on film, edited digitally with 480i digital credits and then put onto D2 tape so the end result became composite. What a shitshow.

Attached: 35-Fantaman-Episodio-1.jpg (400x300, 18K)

Do the film reels not exist? If you have sacrifice dumb shit like credits or even effects for the benefit of having proper telecine, it's always worth it.

No, you're right to a degree. All of those shows have a wacky element that's inescapable that thus undermines the escapist fantasy. Slayers, Bakuretsu Hunters, Ruin Explorers, Rune Soldier Louie, Those Who Hunt Elves, and more, they all do it. It was all part of that superhyper 90s aesthetic that has aged terribly, culminating in Excel Saga.

The show is pretty garbage to begin with. I'd only save the OP, and not even all of it.

Just my 0.02$, don't bully.

I love these old charts.

No idea about the reels. The show wasn't even originally telecined properly, and it wouldn't be as simple as just removing the digital credits. All the wacky on screen kanji / text was digital and basically makes Kare Kano what it is. They would basically have to remake the show.

I'll have to rewatch Bloodlust because I've always heard digital compositing ruined that BD, alone with Bebop's movie.

Prince of Darkness.

That sounds like the universe where RahXephon came first.

Watched 5 episodes of Gundam. It's not bad, but there's nothing about it that really hooks me, and I don't care much for the long mecha fights. Does it improve or drastically change its tone later on? Also, why do the bad guys have all the cool mechas? Gundam looks like a trashy toy while Zeon got cool military style mechas that look ready for combat. As a kid I would be 100% on the side of Zeon.

I tried to watch Iron Blooded Orphans about a year ago and it was awful. I'm kinda wondering if maybe Gundam just isn't for me or if I missed the good parts.

Attached: latest[1].jpg (1444x2401, 1.16M)

Best way to watch 0079 for the first time is probably the movie compilations. Otherwise it's mostly new mecha of the week and White Base getting away as they make for Jaburo or wherever.

I started CCS a week ago or so and it's been enjoyable. Heard things change up a bit after ep 35 so i'll stick with it. The audio is quite good and the BD quality is excellent as well, it'd be hard going back to non-BD pre-2000s shows honestly.

I finished Zeta Gundam, and now I'm depressed.

wrong.
Just keep watching it.

Yeah, CCS loses it's comfy and goes full CLAMP in the latter half. Still a good show, but you can tell that they degrained the BDs which doesn't bother me as much because it's 35mm and with soft mellow flat colors, so it doesn't degrade the image too much. You're correct in BD spoiling us, it makes older shows look fantastic and even sometimes new. The Aim for the Ace movie looks like it could have been made in the later 80s, Genma Taisen looks like it could have been made in 89 and not 83. It's remarkable how it can de-age.

Is there a better Asuka in it for me too? If so, I'll watch it right away

Attached: Jiron Slap.webm (640x480, 1.98M)

There was once a brief time where Ruri surpassed Rei in popularity
But the fact that it's sequel is a video game, and then the sequel to that was a half-assed movie that was supposed to be a part of a trilogy that never came to be killed the series.

Season 2 never.

Color blindnesses that confuses cyan or green for blue are incredibly rare. Your monitor is more likely to be the thing messed up than your eyes.

If it helps Japan didn't even consider green separate from blue to fairly recently

I understand you. First season was great but it aged and it had some defaults here and there.
Enjoy the ride slowly, second season is totally brilliant in any point.

Watched this recently. Too short imo. It was visually very inspired.

That's fairly busty for the 90s.

Nearly halfway through ZZ, giving it a shot until it supposedly gets better but I'm not optimistic.
1/3 through Maison Ikkoku and it's pretty great. Basically the highlight of my day.
Dropped GE999 after 10 episodes. I like the concept, but the writing is just too on-the-nose

ZZ gets better after Moon Moon and at least watch the eternal war episode of 999. One of my favourites.

Episode 25

I'm well past moon moon, it's still Judau trying to rescue his sister, Bright still being fucking retarded despite all of his experience, Beecha and Mondo literally trying to kill all of their allies (whichever side they're on at the moment) and no one bats an eye, and all of the Axis characters being saturday morning villains.

currently watching card captor sakura, fun fun pharmacy, and macross 7

macross 7 is too fucking slow for its own good... but it's really, really good, and it's fucking gorgeous
shame about all that reused animation
basara is amazing

fun fun pharmacy is kinda really bland so far
popuri is really cute though
but seriously, it's kinda boring

card captor sakura is really pretty and it's been a good time so far

worst post on Yea Forums

Attached: vlcsnap-2019-04-07-17h12m21s573.jpg (640x480, 57K)

This is why I didn't like ZZ as much. It got better towards the end but the way Bright's character was neutered was awful, if any of the White Base or Kamille's crew had tried to do what Beecha and Mondo did in ZZ in 0079 or Zeta Bright would've has them sent to the firing squad.

This show is amazing and I love it. I bought it on a whim at a second hand store because I'm curious and it really revived my interest in anime. It's a shame about Prince of Darkness, though.

I'm trying to remember if it was the OAV or TV series with the episode back in the base where everyone is bored and put one of the mecha in the water, so they try to use the other one to take the original from the water but still fucked it up and have everyone scramble as the chief comes back to base.

Perfection

I need to keep watching Heidi. My fiance practically begged me to watch it, since she had seen it many times since she was a young girl. I started it and really fell in love with it. Its maximum comfy and reminds me of my life growing up in the countryside.

The pacing is fucked because it tries to fill in the gap for people who haven't played the game, it's an incomplete story since it was meant to be a trilogy or at least leverage into a second season, and it was tonally different from the TV series and game completing losing the charm and appeal, and most characters get sidelined anyways and the few that do anything get their development completely destroyed.
Only good bit was the focus on Ruri

What I understand is nearly all anime released before NGS are trash and immature.

It's a shame all of Nube isn't translated.

Anyone have the manga to this or some art books? It was so short & I want more.

Forget translated, some of the raws for the later sequel series aren't even up!

This was great as a kid

2V was weird. It doesn't really feel like a Street Fighter anime and from what I recall it was mostly just Ken and Ryu picking fights and being assholes.

Started Ideon. So far it seems like a kids show and the sound sucks and way the kids scream is hurting my ears.

Maybe it was something to do with the recording equipment they had at the time but something about really high voices in a lot of shows can be really hard to take in extended viewings.

Tenamonya Voyagers, and man that was a fucking downhill wreck after the first episode.

Just finished Burn Up. What a boring movie.

The Virtua fighter anime was pretty good too.

It was silly and stupid but I also kind of loved it. Shame there are no season 2 subs.

The manga started in 96 and got an anime in 2000, and if you love the style check out Rumiko Takahashi's other works like Urusei Yatsura, Ranma 1/2, or Maison Ikkoku.

Sometimes I wonder how anime is profitable.

It's not

What's the consensus on this song?

The fact that he could move those monstrously detailed kind of designs in the Fatal Fury cuts he did so fluidly, well weighted, and expressively is pretty astounding. I noticed a lot of the cuts in his older super robot ovas are similar, part of the shift to more animation fluidly( not the be all end all of animation, but a notable change that happened slowly) was usually simplifying the designs so your inbetweeners could get it down easily, since that is where most of the fluidity comes in. So in modern anime you get a lot of simple looking noodle people flipping around very dynamically and fluidly, which is cool as well. But Obari just said “fuck that, we’ll have it both ways” in a similar way Kawajiri did with stuff like Running Man, Ninja Scroll and Bloodlust. The motions are still a bit restrained in all the cases mentioned, but that just helps give it that extra feeling of solidity and machismo.

Yeah. A lot of his critics regarding his human anatomy aren't without merit, but they also often forget he's an animator first and foremost and his style (And yes Ill defend it as a style) isn't about being realistic so much as it's about being dynamic and larger than life as possible.

To elaborate on the style vs shit argument, or at least my logic for doing so, is that I see a style as something done intentionally, whereas someone who defends bad art as "MY STYLE" is really just trying to cover up their mistakes because they posted some hastily drawn fan art on DA or HF or whatever.

I won't say his old stuff didn't have room for improvement, I just think it's important to remember what artists are actually shooting for.

Obari also drew tons of characters with regular anatomy prior to that design period, so there is pretty definitive proof that it wasn’t an error, but a conscious choice.

Yeah but he never outright lost his ability to do things because reasons like gt does with instantaneous movement, besides Ki sensing coming and going when convenient but the entire cast suffered from that.

Hey Yea Forumsnon, thanks for showing off the OP. I got interested in the show cause of this banger and now I've watched 3 episodes already!

No they just made him a flat out moron who just either completely forgets important plot items because he's so excited for a fight or purposely chooses not to beat enemies when he has the chance.

No problem, make sure to read the manga too.

Just set up a raid array and stripe raid 1 across 3 drives. Odds of each of them failing at the same time is 1 in several million.

I finished The Irresponsible Captain Tylor the other day.
Overall it was pretty funny, but it took a while to get used to it - the first 6 or 8 episodes I didn't really like the humour, but in the end it grew on me. Also the mid episode break is pretty nice, I don't know why I liked it so much though

Devil Lady is ok but Violence Jack is a must just because of how absurd it is

He just looks like that normally.

that face is gay tho
doesn't help it he looks like blowing a thin japanese dick.

I think Lady is actually one of the stronger tv series I’ve seen narratively and in terms of it’s been pacing and maintaining its atmosphere to good effect. Jun’s character arc is really well done and the show has the best kind of slow burn pacing and constant feeling of dread. It’s fairly low budget visually though.

Violence Jack all depends on which episode, they are all stand alone stories. The first one is all around garbage, the second one starts with one of the most ambitious cuts of animation I’ve seen, even if the inbetweeners didn’t quite do their job in some minor parts, and is kind of the perfect exploitation film, the third one has even stronger overall production values but isn’t quite as memorable. 2/3 are good shit and way underrated.

I love 90´s anime aesthetics

tylor is pretty cool. although the show knew what it was about from the get-go, it did take a few episodes for it to find its pacing and flow better.

>Does anyone else watch anime on a CRT?
So I can't tell if this is all a big meme or not but I am noticing that a lot of older series tend to look a bit weird on my current monitor. You can't really tell until it's in motion but there's some weird frame rate thing going on where stuff tends to look like it's moving faster than it is.

Attached: Bubblegum_Crisis_Tokyo_2040_01_[DVD.H264.AC3].mkv_snapshot_08.52_[2019.03.30_00.20.21].jpg (704x480, 45K)

Maybe if you stopped thinking about dick every once in a while, you'd stop jumping to these conclusion.

But in all seriousness, the big blue eyes and full lashes Tatsunoko tended to give their protagonists in the 60s and 70s are kinda effeminate. Even moreso when put on characters that are relatively young.

Sweet blinds.

Either you have an unmatching framerate that produces jerkiness or you could be seeing effects of response time and/or overdrive artifacts on LCD.

Besides that it's a meme, good LCDs like IPS are superior. I look forward to the time the response shit gets eliminated, though.

Oh, actually, there is one more factor. Current LCD TVs might have all sorts of shitty postprocessing algos that idiots like on by default that can really harm good quality video. Maybe your LCD rapes anime that way, while the old CRT whon't have such stuff.
That has nothing to do with the actual display technology though.

Attached: Le FlashKei-03.jpg (714x524, 61K)

Maybe. Ill have to dick with the settings. It's not every show I watch either so it could just be rips fault too.

Yeah, rips (and sources), that is generally the biggest problem. Sometimes also lower resolution of CRT might be better at hiding lower quality of SD source while HD LCD with sharp pixels can draw attention to artifacts.

What kinds of sources are you using? It might be interlacing artifacts, although proper rips shouldn't have those.

It was the exact opposite for me. I found the first couple of episodes endearing, but I lost interest when they stranded.

I noticed it a lot on the [whw] release.

I was on a binge of Osamu Tezuka manga for a while. Does that count?

Yes. The guy who basically invented anime counts.

VOTOMS is easily the best of the three by miles, it's far better executed than Gundam is.
Gundam is a must watch for its historical significance, but it's still fine regardless. It has better ideas than VOTOMs even if the execution can be autistic.
Macross is a meme series that only seems important because it was the first popular mecha series in the West. In Japan it's always been in Gundam's shadow for a good reason. Watch it last and don't try to think hard about it. There's many far better mecha series out there.

I love full retarded.

Lmao they hate Gai so much they killed him twice, not surprising if it can happen to Ai,Admiral and Akito why would you expect any boson jump "victim" to die?

Well it was less her teleport that made people think she was dead and more the fact that her cockpit was crushed past the point where they could even retrieve her corpse.

I'm not sure what makes CCS such a relaxing watch for me.
I think the flat colours and limited shading put my mind at ease for some reason.

Attached: tomoyo-ccs.jpg (620x393, 158K)

I don't remember 0079 being too anti-war. Amuro's mom was basically treated in the wrong for seeing her son become a soldier.

It's just a good show user, with really high production values. I don't think any other shoujo ever got such care besides maybe RoV.

what’s the anime in the pic

What's the filename? Google it and see if it's the name of a character, and see what series that character is in.

>>in the dub the robot was renamed into whore

wat

Gundam isn't inherently pacifistic though, its just realist about the consequences of war and the effects it has on people. Its much more about Tomino expressing his experiences as a child during the tail end of the second world war than trying to push a moral on the audience. My guess is that is why Gundam and some of his shows always have kids around, were in certain other shows of his like Dunbine that isn't a feature.

Just started it myself, up to episode 6 currently. Being only DVD quality it looks pretty terrible for the most part.
It's just okay so far.

It makes me want to be a cute magical girl in the late 90s, going to the aquarium with my friends.

Attached: tumblr_mn8c58VjBI1sqam4ao1_500.gif (500x375, 899K)

They changed the robot's name into Casquivana, a pretty old word for whore.

Considering JC Staff's current state hopefully not any time soon.

Not everything every character says is supposed to be the work as a whole telling you something.

The flat colors and limited shading also mean their degraining isn't as bothersome like it would be for other anime.

Finally had some free time so I decided to pick up most of the pre-2000 stuff I downloaded last year, one of those was Galaxy Fraulein Yuna, it's so over the top and wacky I couldn't help but giggle throughout the whole first episode.

You just need to come to accept what we already have. It's quite extensive, after all.

Seriously there's like how many seasons and movies at this point? Slayers fags got more to work with than a lot of other fags combined.

The style is the same, the only shit it changed in all of these years are Lina and Gourry's clothes.
