It's a short 4koma adaptation obviously aimed at existing fans who already know all of the characters and will be content seeing more of their interactions and daily lives away from the front. There is another "proper" season of Strike Witches in the works with Road to Berlin anyway. If anything I'd be asking that question about the Witch idol anime that was announced.

The artstyle is in no way a good indication of quality I can think of multiple shows with bad artstyle that are still overall great, I would also say that it is impossible to judge an anime's artstyle from a picture alone since the most important part is how it looks in motion.

Because if it is good, then some people are going to start talking about it, which might lead me to give it a try. Like Kemono Friends. I dismissed it because it seemed like a shitty CGI childrens show. But then people started calling it a hidden gem and once episode 3 aired even more people mentioned it I gav it a try and at episode 2 I was hooked.

The true hidden gems will never be widely talked about. All you are doing is leaving what you watch up to the masses. Most people will do the same as you and never watch even close to most shows, which means there could be countless that slips through the cracks.
You might as well then only watch whatever is the most popular that season on mal or something.

Now you're just being stupid. I don't base what I pick up on what is popular at all. I read synopsis, look at pictures, studios, VA's etc and decide for myself if I think it has potential or not. If I think it has, then I pick it up. I usually pick up 15-20 shows per season, and drop maybe 2-3 of them. But if one that I overlooked gets hype, then obviously I am going to concider it. That is not letting the masses pick for you. It's just a way to find more potential shows.
And it's not like I am going to pick up anything as long as it gets hype either. I don't bother with shield hero for example, despite all the threads on Yea Forums because I don't like isekai.
