What story is left for the characters?

Everyone seems to have completed their character development unless we're doing a time skip and now dealing main casts older personalities

Are they still going to do that thing where they randomly adapt manga and LN episodes? I almost got whiplash from the pacing changes first time.

Seems they're going to adapt the serious arc (vs Dostoevsky) from the start. Dunno if can they pull off with 1 cour tho, hopefully it will be 2 split cour again with the oncoming fujobuck.

Everyone is canon straight and there's tons of hot girls. akutagawa has higuchi (blonde mafia girl), dazai is a lady's man to the max. yosano, naomi, kyoka.

That's just the EDs, they're so touchy feely that no wonder people think this is gay. In the series Dazai is just a mentor for two mentally fucked up kids who fight over everything.

The only time he appeared happy was drinking with Odasaku and Ango before everything went to shit. Even then he was still miserable on the inside. In the manga not only does he get shot, then gets called a black hearted criminal by the hunting dogs and thrown in jail, and he sincerely feels aggrieved about being reminded of his past sins. Even ango gets stressed to the point of tears over decay of angels. Plus his new protege, atsushi, is constantly getting stabbed, gutted, blown up, shot, and hunted, a large part by his old protege who has a lingering daddy complex about him. I've never seen a more miserable looking guy than dazai. He can't even find a pretty woman willing to strangle him, how sad is that? He's had two friends in his entire life, and the one is dead and the other betrayed him. When he tries to become a better person his old coworkers call him a traitor.
Call me when the ED is out.

I hope this isn't just some meaningless asspull skill like something out of jojo. Maybe it's some deeper meta shit that makes his own life or body to be an ability that he can nullify momentarily. The summary for the BEAST novel was already mindfucky because of the effect that the book had (or didn't have) on him.

I mean. compared to ranpo it's hardly an asspull, dazai canonically isn't as smart as ranpo. there are limits to his opness. buddhist monks can do it, right, so there's at least some basis.
whatever dostoevsky is up to is probably way more asspully.
It's a carryover from the author he's based on, who tried committing suicide multiple times and kept failing. in the manga it's SYMBOLISM that dazai has a superhuman vitality. we're still in mystery about the meaning behind the book that can alter reality and atsushi's relationship to it as the tigerbeetle guide. it's hinted that dazai may be the key to this book. but who knows, i can't find more than the first few LNs anywhere and we're still trapped in decay of angels for at least another 5 chapters of the manga.

Kunikida was Azure King, but after his terrorist trick got people killed (which went against his ideals) he faked his death and started anew. He even became a foster daddy for one of the victims' children. The woman said that her ex died, and hinted that Kunikida was very similar to him. She was a lecturer and Kunikida used to be a math teacher. Near the end of the arc the two have a scene and she says goodbye to him. It's pretty obvious that they used to know each other and even were lovers. The woman just tried to reach out to him with her Azure Messenger scheme after finding out that her bf was actually still alive. Or at least that's how I think things went.

No they are different people. It was to show what Kunikida could become. Kunikida was a math teacher and was choosen to take over the agency.
