Just finished this, why doesn't it get talked about more? Will it ever be surpassed?

There are like a couple real(as in not rei vs asuka, or 'pretentious garbage' shitposting) 300+ post threads every week.
There just isn't that much to discuss about KareKano. It's basically "First half was great"; "mangaka/anno differences"; "BD release when"; thread end.

second half was great for me too honestly, just in different ways and for different reasons. it's got some amazing shots i think, the one here of the smokestacks zooming down past the frame like rockets or something legit gave me chills the first time. plus it's interesting to see anno experimenting with images, ideas and techniques that would become love & pop.

i see that film and this series as a kind of symbolic duology honestly, his two lost generation works.

Thank god it isn't talked about more. I really like the series. Unfortunate about the no budget 2nd half. But I am glad it doesn't have annoying Ranma fans who keep talking about the same shit over and over for over 20 years. From back then til today one thing hasn't changed: never trust Ranma fans.

I didn't notice any difference in quality between the first half and second half. Didn't even know anno got booted off.

2nd half of the anime lost their budget because manga artist hated the adaptation therefore making anno leave the project. You can see the drop in quality.

It's not that massive. In addition more people rate anime than manga so anime rating are more moderate. Second more girls read manga than boys so manga targeted at girls frequently has absurdly high ratings. Finally from manga perspective Kare Kano is a shoujo classic while the adaptation is relatively obscure by anime standards.

It actually gets brought up quite often for a 20 year old shoujo whose production shit the bed 2/3rds of the way in. People know of it because of Anno's involvement and it's generally well liked here.
