Why do so many anime characters still use flip phones? Is this a cultural thing for the Japanese? Because they’re cheaper for companies/schools/the government to give to people, and therefor more common?
I know about Isekai Smartphone, but plenty of other anime characters still use flip phones in 2019.

Flip phones still exist here, but it is not common to see one. Maybe some still exist because they are for the older individuals and younger kids who need monitoring and have less access to apps. The company I work for still has some because they don't want to buy new ones since theirs still work.

I used to wonder the same thing about braces because none of the middle school or high school kids have them, but then I realized it was because the Japanese are worse when it comes to their teeth than the English.
Japan makes good electronics but paradoxically they're usually about 5-10 years behind on technology trends.

You sure? My current 4G mobile plan is 4GB/day/2 months for a less than $5 SIM. After first 2 months it becomes $3.5/4GB/day/month so I just bought myself a new SIM for the data.
