Pretty bold claim.

sometimes the truth is bold. i actually just want to talk about slam dunk since im rereading it

Mitsui could have been the MC. He had a great arc.

yeah i normally dont like the whole bad guy becomes friend trope but i fucking love the moving moments in slam dunk. cry every fucking time during the sennoh game when anzai talks about how sakuragi and rukawa are both progidies able to surpass yazawa and when "now is my time" come sup

Never seen this show, but always hear a ton of praise for it. How can a basketball anime be THAT good? Is it worth watching if you're not into it?

admittedly ive never watched the anime but have read the manga 20 times or so by now. its very well made, even if youre not into sports or have never played it makes you wish you were a part of a team and gives you hope

The manga/anime singlehandly made a lot of Japs basketball fans. Slam Dunk is the Yea Forums equivalent to Initial D.

My first time playing 5v5 full court basketball was more hype than my first fuck.

yeah iktf. miss playing pickup games at night one street courts and spending hours with your bros 3 on 3 while sharing a huge gatorade

also anyone know for sure if yazawa's death had to do with him being on drugs and driving or was it a drugged up driver hitting him somehow? always assumed the former but rereading the chapter now made me wonder

Well you've got me interested.

I wish he would release new chapters of Real

fuck i remember cheering like crazy if i was on the bench for my team and getting a second wind if the crowd/bench was cheering loudly

Attached: slam-dunk-130405.jpg (800x1363, 193K)

also one of the most iconic scenes

It's definitely the best sports manga ever made. Won't argue with you there.

based taste. im a sucker for mitsuru adachi and H2 gets me in the feels every time but slam dunk is for sure my fav sports manga and prob my fav manga overall. eyeshield was fun but the fantastical elements took away from the heart of the series for me

>anime never adapted it all
Fuck.

Guys, was Slam Dunk really THAT big in Japan ?

the chounin exam and the haku/zabuza arcs were top tier and it had other great moments but it shit itself near the end
not a nip so idk but googling tells me it was really responsible for a basketball boom. its one of the most popular mangas of all time and pretty iconic esp considering japan likes baseball and boxing mangas a lot more

definitly one of the best. Even better than Ashita no joe, wich actually wins against Slam Dunk in terms of anime.

>Even better than Ashita no joe, wich actually wins against Slam Dunk in terms of anim
Ending of AnJ is in a league of its own, and I say this as a huge fan of SD. The ending is just perfect, from his loss to his final interaction with Yoko where he tells her he wants her to have his gloves then we get final panel.

yeah it truly was a fantastic end. it was like a perfected execution of the overdramatic and larger than life type of scene that the 60s-70s manga employed a lot. not saying thats not used anymore today but theres a lot of influence from back then and theres a different mood to it

>*airplane noises*
This shit was hype as fuck.

Slam Dunk legit has a shot at being the GOAT

I'm with you 100%. I spent most of my middle-high school years wrapped up in a sport I didn't care about, so Slam Dunk was even more important to me than most other things. It's probably my GOAT as far as written works go.

Regarding sport mangas, I think ROOKIES is up there too.

Rookies is another one of my favorites. It's truly inspiring.

Slam dunk and dragon ball was what made Shonen jump have 6 million issues a week. It wasn't until Naruto and one piece that they started seeing close to those numbers again.

TASTE

Rookies as a sports manga is way inferior compared to Slam Dunk, but I do admit its strongly compensated by it´s delinquent elements and Kawato´s positive determination in the first arc. I feel it´s has a more clear direction than Rokudenashi blues, but Rkudenashi blues despite going in circles is better because it does know hwo to go full delinquent without getting boring any damn second

It's honestly fucking amazing.

How much did the anime adapt?

It didn't include the tournament arc. Iirc it wasn't that long though. Basically a few games. Shohoku didn't make it that far but they beat the best team in the country.

That’s not fire punch

Sakuragi is GOAT and a genius!

And also plagued with filler. I remember it taking legit 20 episodes for the final game. I don't see how one of the biggest manga never had a proper anime ending. Same goes for Rurouni Kenshin.

Kuroko was fun but it doesn't even come close.

I wish the manga was a lot longer than it did. Why do sports manga always end right after highschool or getting to koshien/championships? H2 at least showed Koshien.

slam dunk for fujoshis and gaylords

to this day i have never read a manga more voraciously than slam dunk. i positively devoured the volumes. from the point when the team started coming together till the end i was on a prolonged hype high.

team sports are just something else. i totally get what means. having a bum ankle that keeps me from experiencing that again is more depressing to me than it has any right to be. i do solo shit but it just doesn't quite cut it.

i was always tall for my age but more bookish and never went out much so i was also pretty fat but this made me want to learn basketball and even though i never got good it felt great sinking threes, getting boards, and making and ones. i havent played in years fuck..

>Is it worth watching if you're not into it?
Not at all. It's piss poor paced garbage. Even Kuroko is better. Inoue is a hack. Not even baiting.

i remember buying some lebrons 2s like a retard because i thought they looked cool but they were heavy as fuck. too bad i went shoe shopping with mommy instead of haruko though
wow

this manga had a couple of qts

Attached: SDv11ch91-p042.jpg (588x1000, 202K)

same. man i miss this shit.

Aomine was the hottest one.

finihsed my reread last night before passing out and it was just as good as all the others times. now to give myself a few months break before starting back over

Attached: sd21-crying.jpg (488x566, 90K)

I still prefer AnJ as far as sports manga and manga overall go. I don't even think Slam Dunk is better than REAL but since it will never finish it's hard to compare the two since the ending of Slam Dunk was amongst it's best bits.

I also really like Rookies but I have a boner for Morita. I must have read it about 7 times now.

Attached: Rookies v09 c82 p087.png (751x1200, 52K)

Highly overrated, it's like Rokudenashi Blues for a female audience.

It was literally the 6th-best selling manga of last year based off of reprints despite the fact it ended 25 years ago.

>5s
>1s
>6s
>Cortez

Inoue had some good taste in sneakers.

I wish RokuBlues was as popular as SD but it's not meant to be.

Absoultely correct

when scanlation finished

longspun matches

fair enough but it had my attention all throughout. the sannoh match is absolute GOAT tier even though most of their players are ugly/plain

Attached: Sannoh_Big_5.png (1198x595, 521K)

So actually never then.

Attached: 1543600523974.png (584x506, 234K)

Is REAL good as well?

Yes, but the best arc/volume in REAL has nothing to do with Basketball. Then again REAL is more like Anj or Ping Pong where the story is much more focussed on character development and uses sports as a vehicle to do that, rather than being an actual "sports" manga like Slam Dunk.

Attached: x3.png (2209x1600, 1.17M)

Ill die a happy man when i see the scainlations completed and IF an there was a resurgence of Delinquent manga and anime with all the glorus fist fights

What's KnB's appeal?
