It's not so much tackles as it's alluded to, but there some other things that Hugtto is more upfront about than other seasons

The extra cures debut arc was a bit too prolonged, the show at one point even jokes about how they took over the show for a bit. After that things go back to normal. The anniversary episodes were no more than 3, with the last two being pretty great actually.

There are some stinkers, but the whole matter is more subjective. People will complain that the story is going nowhere because they decided to have some character focus episodes, or point at some episode they disliked and use it as representative of the entire cour.

Romance aside, I think it works because even though they are different people, MiniLulu is still Ruru in soul, and that's what would matter the most to Emiru. And just as Ruru was there for Emiru in a way that kickstarted their whole friendship, it feels right that now it's Emiru's turn to be there for MiniLulu and be her friend. I think Ruru herself got the worse part of it, unless she managed to somehow make friend with the Emiru in her timeline. That would be good material for a novel

This episode highlighted how weak they were, yes, but right after they did some intense gravity strength training without getting proper recovery time. It was very real. They would have been very weak and very tired after all that. They are the weakest precures, but it's nice and realistic at least. Consider that they don't fight giants all that often. We'll get to see them grow over the course of the whole first half of the season probably. Looks like a great season.

The key point that makes this defeat work so well isn't actually how badly they were beaten. Precure get knocked out of transformation almost every year, and they've lost plot coupons on more than one occasion too.
What makes this one work so well is its pacing. Its placement at the END of the episode.
Generals get a power-up -> Precure lose to the generals -> Precure get group finisher -> Precure beat super-generals.
That pattern is present in almost every season. But it tends to take place all in one episode, with the entire episode dedicated to that structure. Star Twinkle gave us a fake-out by starting the episode with the "filler" structure, where the Cures get to act cute and do fun stuff for half the episode until the fight starts. So when the fight isn't a normal filler fight that lasts just seven minutes and has no twists, but instead an arc-climax fight that lasts a lot longer and has the Precure fail in the middle, it comes as a shock. That longer format doesn't fit in the back half of a filler-style episode, so it bleeds over into the next episode. Even though we know that next episode is going to complete the structure in the usual way and have the Cures win with a group finisher, the week-long wait we have to go through gives a completely different feeling to that temporary loss.

Power chart user here. Just wanted to report that the file was corrupted last time I saved it somehow, so the changes I made are lost and the whole photoshop file too. All that's left is the gif. It's easy enough to make new ones from the ones that are there already and move them around one at a time but I just don't want to now. I had them all on layers grouped in folders I could move around. This episode reflects my ongoing battle with bad luck and probably stupidity.

Smile was fun but the ending kinda left it on a sour note for me. I wasn't watching it for the story or anything, but bad endings (no pun intended) stick with me more than they should I guess. I'm still bitter about Kamen Rider W despite how good the rest of the season was for example.
Heartcatch was good but I think I fucked myself over on it by barrelling through the entire thing in a week instead of giving it time to breathe, a lot of it feels like a blur now in my memory outside of stuff like the Mother's Day episode.

I take that back. It's not terrible but it's far from great. The mooks have done all of two cool things now thanks to Tenjou's powerups: the tornado rush, and this weeks gang rape. The monsters were kind of cool briefly when they first appeared because the str shooting telescope provided a real threat, but now it's just Madoka shoots the projectiles down and it's no problem. The monsters don't look cool either. Kappard has only just now finally done something cool.
