Lots of promotion at Animate too, but don't know if it'll work as intended since Animate Ikebukuro is fujoshi turf. Japanese fujos are different from western fujoshits though.

TMS Entertainment is making me uneasy as well, they have fuckton classics under their belt but these were mostly old productions, their 2010's catalogue looks decent but the last shoujo they adapted was Orange, which hit bottom of the barrel QUALITY after 6 episodes. They'll be also working on Doctor Stone from Shounen JUMP this year, and since it's a shueisha series they might prioritize that one.

TMS is used to working on a bunch of shit and there's no new season of Yowapeda or Lupin this year so they have some free spaces.
Besides it's already confirmed it's a full adaptation so it doesn't really matter if it bombs.

TMS is always busy but they have a bunch of subsidiaries at TMS. The studio helping making this is 8Pan which are known for their Yowamushi Pedal anime work, which had pretty decent to good animation also 8Pan isn't working on Pedal (as of right now) nor are they working on Dr. Stone series, so this will be their only project.

I've known about FruBa for more than a decade but never bothered with it, now after watching episode 1 I didn't expect to like it so much. I found out that the scans of the manga translated in my native language exist, I'm so happy that I can start reading it.

iirc it was a game kids in Tohru's class played where one kid gives all the others fruit names (you're a banana, you're an apple, etc). But then one of them called Tohru a rice ball (obv not a fruit) so she wasn't able to join the "fruits basket". It's like a metaphor for being included I guess, but she (and other characters in the story) are left out/have issues with their families, etc.

2001 is that early era of digital animation so the characters look a bit weird by today's standards, especially the eyes. The 2001 adaptation has a LOT more humor and funny faces in it which worked for the early parts but Furuba gets very depressing and serious as it goes on so that kind of tone eventually wouldn't fit it.

It's like almost impossible to genuinely hate Tohru. The people that did managed to like her later on mainly because they didn't get to know her better until she talked to them. I honestly felt like Kakeru was created just to differentiate from everyone else that likes her cause the whole thing with his girlfriend's mom getting killed seemed a bit forced to me.
