I think characters moving on with their lives separate from the story is sort of ONE's thing. It's why Ritsu and Teru don't really form a "crew" with Mob despite the promotional material giving that impression. ONE also seems averse to portraying romance because he thinks he's never fully experienced it himself, so any girls who might have a good reason to like the main character are kept out of focus.

A lot of manga readers expected a 1:1 adaptation, which obviously wasn't going to happen. The World Domination arc comes too close to just plain shonen fighting for my tastes but it's not the fault of the anime. Bones did something really amazing with the source material and it's not just about fight sakuga.

The fights were amazing, but I don't actually understand how Claw lost.
If you think about it, he has twenty years of energy stored up. That's more power than Mob could ever hope to accumulate. Assuming that they have the same ability and the same level of potential, the older guy should win.

More or less, yeah. Main difference is that Mob is insecure, but like OPM most of the enjoyment comes out of character interactions and emotional stakes, rather than physical stakes.
In shounen, the protagonist NEEDS to win in the end, so ONE just does away with the need to question it and focuses on the characters.
