Probably attack on titan. Before that one I watched more than 150 anime and read the pokemon special manga, but SnK made curious about manga after reading it. I started with I am a hero and then procedeed with 20th century boys and Battle Royale. I started with the right foot.

When I started watching anime I really loved anime adaptation of Working and was super fucking ecstatic that half a decade later it did not only get a continuation, but legit conclusion.

Back then I really thought "anime is the way to go".

But somewhere along the road I watched anime like Gin no Saji, Flying Witch, Kaiji, Hinamatsuri. For some I am still waiting for subsequent seasons, for others I already switched to manga.

These days I don't really go for anime adaptations of something unless they seem fairly self-contained (Run with the Wind), the continuation is guaranteed (Monogatari series) or anime seems to be doing something really cool (like Hinamatsuri is most recent most notable exception, the anime adaptation has its drawbacks, but also has very nice points).

I would also never watch lazy 1:1 adaptations like Boku no Hero Academia or Hunter x Hunter (2011), because I end up appreciating detailed dynamic artwork over rare bits of decent animation.

Wish I was here at the time to see it, though the shitstorm was everywhere. Some anons seem to be mad about it to this day, come out of nowhere to shit on the anime whenever it's mentioned.

For me it was Naruto, though that was long before I was into anime or manga or even knew anything about either, I just liked the series since I was a kid and wanted to get the full story without waiting

Either Yumekui Merry or Kanamemo. Can't remember which, but it was a good choice in both cases, although I never finished Kanamemo.

For completeness, Shugo Chara was the first I read on paper, I New Game the first I read before the anime came out - from the first translation threads on Yea Forums - and Girls Last Tour the first I read in Japanese before the anime came out. Merry was a good gateway drug.

God I feel old now. I never even picked up the anime, it still feels recent.

I'm fickle and tend to not read manga if I've already seen the parts that have been adapted into anime, but other times I end up picking up the manga when an anime gets announced and never bother with the anime. I'll go through both if I really like the series.

Technically it was when I finished the first season of bnha and caught up with that, but it's embarrassing how much time I spent talking to the aspies in bnha threads before I actually moved on to reading decent manga.

Having to download anime. I live in a poor third world country so internet is shit, and I didn't have enough space to keep anime on my hard drive. I read manga for years.
Luckily now I have great internet (even better than some first world people), so I can download anime. Plus I recently created a tool to bulk download anime from KissAnime (because smaller file size), this makes downloading anime much easier, compared to searching for torrents. It's difficult to find 480p torrents

My high school library had a bunch of manga behind the counter. Naruto, Death Note, Bleach, Fruits Basket. I'd go in and read something any Study Hall I could. Those were good times. That, and it introduced me to Buso Renkin.

honestly, not having a lot of free time at home but having tons at work. I read about 1 full series every other week, and have come tot he conclusion that the manga is generally going to be better.

But to add on that, I have been reading manga since elementary school. My first one was dragonball, because that's what the library my mom took me to had. I just was probably 25% manga, 75% anime until last year, as the numbers have switched

Last time it was hinamatsuri and the scanlations stopped a couple of months later. Being a mangafriend must be suffering.
