Both Cross Game and Touch have the death of an important character who's passing plays a huge part in how the story pans out. I'm reading H2 atm, and it's nowhere near as sad as either of those works.

They include sound effects, they label which character is speaking during conversations, and the subs are like Kotobuki where they read like dub scripts. They properly convey the meaning, but they aren't quite accurate.

I'd say watch other first. Adachi stories is best to watch/read from start to finish without waiting. Try Cross Game firdt since it's newer, because Touch is kinda old and may turn off some people.

He's somewhat similar to the Rumiko in the sense that from an outsider's perspective a lot of his stories just feel very same-y (the baseball focus, the character design re-use, the whole youth passion deal he loves, etc etc) so if someone who just tries one of his series randomly and dislikes it is probably bound to dislike him as a whole, if that makes sense.
Also I can see some puritans hating him on principle because of Miyuki or Jinbee, what with the incest stuff even though they're both great - I don't think I've ever seen anyone mention them in that context but I never looked for opinions on those around and I can definitely imagine something like that existing especially in the US since there's so many braindead anime "fans" over there that love getting mad about nothing.

because he has actually demonstrated at times that he's a capable writer when he wants to write drama and doesn't reduce his characters to a handful of his own cliches and catchphrases like LET'S GO TO THE KOSHIEN.

there wasn't any catchphrases this episode, nor mention of desire for koshien minus one gag character.

also, this is literally the first fucking episode, nothing has happened except for character introductions/mystery setup around the siblings blood relations, and references to past glory.

like damn, if you knew adachi, you'd know someone isn't going to get hit by a truck in episode one. it's always been a slow/mono no aware-like journey, which are broken by moments of drama--and it's repercussions.

This is such a stupid criticism, you really have no reason to be watching sports anime, period. A successfully story of an athlete requires drive and motivation. It requires effort, perseverance, failure.
