FKMT thread

Is there another character as relatable as Kurosawa?
I think not.

I've been getting into Mahjong lately but i'm getting tired of playing against CPUs, where can i play online against other people?

Acrobatic boi

Blue, blue, electric blue
That's the color of my room
Where I will live

Kurosawa from Onanie master kurosawa

tenhou.net it's what everyone uses, if you know Japanese you're good, but if not there's a guide to use it if you just google "tenhou documentation" or something. There's also a crack for the windows desktop client at minomino.org if you want it, but make sure you either turn your antivirus off, or exempt it or something if you use it

Alright.
Would you believe me if I said I'm a big fan of Fukumoto... but only now I am reading Kaiji? And watching Akagi.
My fucked up reading order was
Kurosawa -> Buraiden Gai -> Confession -> Seizon LifE.
I swear I wasn't trying to be hipster about it, I just thought that gambling and mahjong wouldn't be much attractive to me.
That said, I am enjoying Kaiji very much. Although, I do feel that I am only able to because of being able to binge-read it. I wouldn't bear the slowness if I had to wait for updates.

FKMT pacing is glacial, good luck to you when you catch up with Kaiji.

Akagi.

If you'll ever feel like you frustrate people with your play on tenhou and feel too conscientious about it there's always Majsoul full of Chinese who don't even know all the rules of the japanese variant.

Tenhou with the English UI translation add-on (google it)

Kurosawa is relatable only if you're a /r9k/ tier sperg. His antics are far too stupid even for Yea Forumsutists standards.

I made a fkmt board on 8ch if anybody cares

Why the fuck did he decide to make nu-Kurosawa instead of Zero Part 3 or something?

People who read the untranslated parts say it's not bad.

I refuse to even touch it.

Does anyone have the series of panels where Akagi talks about freeing yourself from materialism? I think he says something along the lines of how the more we adorn ourselves with, the further away we move from our own purity. He was talking to a subordinate iirc.

Or at least I think it was old Akagi, my brain might just be scrambled.

The closest thing I can think of off the top of my head is when Akagi's talking to Harada about how he's burdened by all of his responsibilities, is that it? That's chapter 153.

Ten is a good book, read it from the beginning.

Attached: 1537467653491.png (750x730, 470K)

Sounds like he has and just can't quite remember it. Which is still grounds for a re-read.

Gambling?

Attached: 1507992819537.jpg (1920x1080, 180K)

Nah, I got get around to reading it myself still, so thanks for the push. The panel in question just struck a chord with me, with how easy it can be to get caught up in buying useless shit for the sake of spending money. A lot of FKMT that I have read is like that.

That's what Fukumoto does best. Took me ages to get around to Ten, so I can't judge you. The last volumes really gut-punch you, but it's worth it.

The tone shift was jarring, but the final chapters were worth it. To this date, I still think about Akagi's conversations with everyone, and if it some of the things he said is actually true. For example, "success is a luxury" seems somewhat fatalistic, but is comforting and motivating at the same time.

This guy. Honestly too fucking real.

Here is a copypasta I made for the 1st of April:

Whether they want to or not, people use up most of their lives for likes.
In other words, they are eroding their own existence and lives for just that!
They're exchanging their own existence for likes!
Whether you're a salaryman or a bureaucrat, everyone is risking their lives for likes!
Imagine the lives of those who are called "normalfags".
They make make accounts on multiple websites such as Instagram and Facebook, then they post on them daily, constantly improving their posts to earn more likes.
When they think they've won and get verified, the only thing awaiting them is the race to success.
They place their following first and foremost, brown-nosing their superiors, flatter their followers.
They diligently post everyday anywhere they can.
After living that sort of life for a little over ten years, around their mid 30s, they are finally able to save up about 20 million.
Do you understand?
20 million is a lot of likes!
In comparison, what the fuck are you?
You never really socialized much, nor did you ever put all your effort into getting approval.
You never built on anything, you never endured anything, you never overcame anything.
And you just live your lazy life.
All you did was shitpost in an event that won't even last a day!
Don't make light of it!
You're not going to get such a large amount like 20 million with that!
But you still want to obtain it.
You still want to grab it!
If that's the case, you have no choice but to risk your own life!
Now, wake up!
Cross it!
If you lose this opportunity, people like you will never be able to gain 20 million.
We'll give you the likes if you post here, no strings attached.
Go.
Grab hold of your future!

Good thing I have the complete thing somewhere. Harada deserves better.

>I'm not free, and I don't even know why.

Hopefully he learns from this. Harada and Hiro bonding was the strongest part from the ending

Who wins in a gamble

Attached: mosaicb94af8aef35f5e88b7d805a0f0fa827f4b36ffd0.jpg (615x615, 121K)

Akagi is acknowledged as pretty much godlike, literally the only being who could even face him off in a gamble is Atem

Akagi>Akiyama>Shirube>baseball Akagi

Akagi is not only a genius, but also has some really strong luck

Only sometimes, but a big part of the Washizu mahjong was Akagi's shit luck forcing him to play extremely well to make up for it. He still got a few mangans but only when Washizu tilted.

Alzheimer's in the last few chapters aside, wasn't old Akagi's problem was that his luck wasn't as good as it used to be, but his gambling skills were still at their pinnacle?

More like he tilted against Ten, hoping for a yakuman ron was too much. But he showed he was the strongest player during the East-West contest imo

no, the problem was Washizu's luck was greater than his si he had to outsmart him every hand, and still barely won

It's not really luck as it is absolutely godlike instinct. Akagi has an incredible understanding of the "flow" of the game and know how to capitalize on it, and when to pull out.

Incidentally, the FKMTKrazy's scans of HERO has started out again.

I'm really digging it thus far. Present Day Hiro is essentially a wisened and non-retarded Kaiji. He's no Akagi, but he's certainly properly succeeding his will.

spoilers
Endou marries Kaiji's mom

This part was fucking retarded

Attached: x3.jpg (900x1280, 233K)

>she's actually reading Zero

It's not that Washizu got 100 LUCK while Akagi only had like 50, Akagi had objectively shit hands at some point, far from mangan or even just tenpai.

Why doesn't Kaiji's mom just call the police telling them to check in a bunch of weird people that have been watching the apartment complex for the last weeks? Endou said that if police showed up they would be pretty much fucked up, so this would result in one of these things:
A. They only get in a conversation with the police, giving Kaiji a chance to escape since they can't chase someone with a policeman in front of them.
B. They actually get into trouble with the police, giving Kaiji a chance to escape.
C. They hear the call through the wire tapes and decide to come back later when the police is gone, giving Kaiji a chance to escape.
Of course there are a lot of counter strategies that Endou could use in this scenario, but it's probably Kaiji's best option, or it was since it seems like Endou is just going to break into the apartment now that mom is gone.

Her name was revealed to be Hatsue last chapter.

The flat is empty. Unless that was a red herring (because way too obvious) - Kaiji is long gone.

Kaiji took stole(?) helmet and bike probably

How many beers Endou killed that night anyway to not notice the osananajimi wearing the old hag disguise?..

zero was fine until they skipped the entire conclusion of dream kingdom

tfw mom was sad last chapter because it could be the last time she saw Kaiji and Endou completely misinterpreted it

Attached: 269-20.png (385x352, 124K)

>she

only if you are a complete moron

I finished it a while ago. Easily the worst

Both parts? The second one feels more mature.

Old guy from part 2 was extremely based

>she

Why is Fukumoto so obsessed with mahjong?

It's the perfect game for life metaphors.

He is 60, he lived through the riichi variant getting popular. Too bad young japs don't give a fuck anymore.

Why aren't you?

Attached: 1552287126697.png (513x594, 301K)

>Endou still thinks Kaiji is in the apartment
what a fool, his KFC obsession has rotted his brain

Attached: endon't.png (220x213, 18K)

All the henchmen are gonna laugh at him

Endie's tendies

Attached: 016_1552983217.png (845x1200, 1.08M)

What a loser, he'll be easily outsmarted by Kaiji and Grande Madre

Honestly Teiai will eventually catch Kaiji and make him take part in one last GAMBERU for his life against Kazuya's brother.

Don't worry, Kaiji will have no option but to take her with him because otherwise Endou would torture her for info like he did with Sakazaki.

Sure, but first we have to get rid of the two side characters. They get a happy ending and Kaiji will probably get lured into another game.
It wouldn't be that hard to do either, if everything fails just kidnap his mother and force his hand.

Just saying, Hyoudo married a fransujin. Clearly an auralist.

you dont think kazuya has learned some sorta lesson once he comes to?

Yeah,
>I should've cheated from the beginning! Like my dad!

Do you think Hyoudo would disown his kid because of 2 bil loss? Then his lesson would be "hey it was actually pretty nice to not think about earthy needs every waking second, I could study and have fun 'n shit, in peace"

Attached: 238-12.png (191x176, 31K)

Considering Kaiji is set in the late 90s, where do you think our lovely cast of characters is now in the year 2019?

6 feet under

I wonder if taking on Hyoudo will be the endgame of Kaiji. 2 Bil might make him mad for a minute, but considering his bank roll he will get over it quirk.

Why do they refer to a thousand million as a billion? Isn't a billion a million million?

Actually they refer to it as 24 oku. One oku is a hundred million yen. This is how Japanese and Chinese count money.

Not in English
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_and_short_scales

Kazuya has a brother, Kazuki.

So beautiful I'm crying right now, I'll smash that like button.

Attached: kji-enduredit.jpg (425x320, 68K)

It's impressive to me that he was able to withstand Washizu, who's both intelligent and very lucky; at this point it's a bit like "what if Akagi played against Saki characters" (who also can't use their abilities everytime or to their best effect, iirc).
Besides being able to form strategies and adapt very well to opponents, he can seemingly read people and the (instinctual) flow of the game, enough to win odd-even/tehonbiki/nine, he would probably ace E-card if he was in good health.

Yeah. The entire last arc hit pretty fucking hard, but Hiro in particular was just too real.

Shitposting on Twitter.

I've been reading Ten, the first volume was kinda meh and a little bit slow, but when they get to the west vs east thing the manga gets more interesting, I'm quite enjoying it especially after reading Akagi.

Attached: x1.jpg (810x1135, 181K)

The East West thing gets really great, but the most kino part is the final arc. Probably the best arc of any manga

Attached: x10.jpg (830x1200, 254K)

One thing I like about it, among many others, is the self-references. You've probably seen one in the first volume already.

Attached: x15.jpg (830x1200, 371K)

The first few chapters are Fukumoto still looking for his style. He hits on something during the Hiro vs Ten match in the second half of the first volume and continues to refine it afterwards, during the game with Muraota and Akagi.

Then once the East/West Battle starts, he's starting to settle in and really show the sort of things he's famous for.

Attached: x4.jpg (750x1070, 208K)

The second round of East/West, Mangan only mahjong, is where FKMT peaked in terms of gambling

I actually agree with you. I've said that East/West was better than Washizu Mahjong across several fkmt threads across the years, and while all four parts of it had things to like and high moments (e.g Hiroyuki calling ron off Washio was an incredible moment), it did peak there.

My only complaint is that Ginji drew the short stick. It was sort of necessary, but still feels slightly bad.

>want to get into Akagi
>don't get Mahjong
Why do they have 5 billion combinations with names like shimshakalaka or whatever that gives you 3 han but only when you get the ultra special dora after your opponents played his ringo star

Attached: dunce_hat.jpg (350x263, 31K)

Washizu mahjong is better as a social commentary though.

Don't learn the hands names. Just get the rules down : every player draws/discards to reach a valid hand (4 sequences/triplets like 333 or 345 and one pair). Refer to pic related when you see a hand name called

Akagi isn't about the tile game anyway, it's about death

I think there's an anki deck for the terminology.
If you've ever used it for kanji you know the gist.

Got off way too easily for what he did and was near immediately forgiven by everyone, which absolutely is not what would happen IRL so no it's not really relatable at all. I hope being relatable wasn't actually what the author was trying to go for at least.

about 7 yaku bread and water tier
7 more you'll see every day tier if you stick around
7 more bird poop out of nowhere tier
