Shield hero thread

I must disagree, I daresay. I haven't read the manga or LN tho, but I do think this anime has or had great potential, hence why I still watch it. But it might have the worst pacing I've ever seen in an anime like this. It had a few strong episodes in the beginning, but after that everything have felt like a filler episode. The animation have been good in a few fights like the first wave, but wth happened after that? It's only still picture with some uncosistent CG and the sound design is making everything even less interesting. How it can have a rating like this in myanime is beyond me. But ofcourse, the anime isn't finished yet, and it still might be able to redeem itself, and I do hope so since the premise seems interesting

It's definitely different and it started off seeming really interesting. I'm still curious what will happend and why these things do happend and the hate for the shield hero etc. I just feel the execution of it is really bad and inconsistent

We get to see adult Raph have a mental breakdown? She's been too strong and confident lately, acting as Naofumi's emotional support anytime he falls apart.
I think it's about time she has he moment to suffer a little too so Naofumi can be there to be the one giving the comforting hugs for a change.

yeah, it's kadokawa experimenting with stuff to see if they can go bonkers and aim at other markets. Shield Hero was picked as a guinea pig for that(probably their market research showed them it was kind of popular in china and "gringoland").

I picked up the manga and LN around the end of s1 and kept reading, it was just Rimuru being a powerhouse and making friends with someone you thought was going to be an enemy then solving some problem with an asspull from great sage. Or using great sage for nation building and someone coming from somewhere else and being like "WOW WHAT A GREAT NATION!" followed by explanations of the technology. Or him getting a new OP powerup on top of his already bullshit powers. Every time.

Maybe because it's well written and this just happens meet the writing guild standards of other countries. You know, kadokawa like to promote itself as a publisher of amateur content, but it's a competitor psyop. They have teams behind a fake identity that "win" their own writing/game dev competitions. You'll see communities with regular members, and then first place goes to some nobody who joined a week prior, and dissappears afterwards.

i... would be hesitant to call shield hero "well written" if only the WN version. The LN has definitely improved upon it yet there's still some issues that remain to be sorted out, or more brought out when made into an LN.
Spear hero on the other hand, builds off shield hero and is all the better for it. Though you need to have read shield hero first.

I will never get over how the spear mangaka frames the comedy. They really found a great artist to convey his antics.

I love the LNs, but I'm not gonna lie. There are a few moments where the writing gives me authentic My Immortal flashbacks. I cannot read the scene where it's revealed that Kyo captured the other heroes without recalling that time Dumbledore found Draco and Enoby in the Forbidden Forest.

(Just to clarify, I'm talking specifically about the quality of the sentences.)

And kyo himself could've gotten a better introduction than being stuck in an exxtra chapter.

In any case. I'm talking more about the content here than anything. I don't know how much of it was the editor helping and how much of it was the author but i can see that some effort was made to make parts of the story flow or connect a bit better. Inclusion of extra information not in the previous version, extra events that make things go differently, new characters, old characters changing a bit, etc. I also feel that the WN had a theme of mostly dealing with "internal" issues in the world naofumi is in while the LN deals with the "external" ones earlier and throughout. Naofumi himself also changes, he's a bit more mellowed out in the LN compared to his WN selfIronically though, in the story his wrath shield actually goes further than it did in the WN. IDK if this is what you wished to hear/read.

Why is there no more people that want to join the heroes? I don't get why anyone cares who the shield hero is, as long as you get strong as fuck extremely quickly if you level-up besides him.

He is extremely dumb. By using his hero status and abilities to level-up others, he could've made shitload of money in no time. But the author always tries to portray him as cunning and rational.
You know what they say, the character can only be as smart as the person who created the character.

Interface is supposed to be usable by everyone. Anime randomly made it hero-exclusive. The various buffs Naofumi gets also don't seem to be that well known. It's kind of unclear how rare a spell like his aura buff is, and the monster and slave master weapon series seem to be pretty obscure. The other heroes don't believe him when he first mentions them, and new recruits he acrues over time are consistently shocked to learn he wants them to take on the slave curse because it will give them a stat growth boost.

Aside from which, there were a lot of people who tried to team up with Naofumi to use him during the first few weeks beyond those couple of guys who he attacks with balloons, and he chased them all off because he assumed they all planned to use him the same way Bitch did. He even unwittingly commanded the free demi-humans in Melromarc to not go near him, and chased away a Siltvelt emissary who came to offer to take him to a country where he would be treated 'better'.

The level 40 cap and level resets are used to keep untrustworthy people from getting too strong. Given that Naofumi trusts no one it makes sense that he wouldn't try to turn a profit by making strangers stronger.

I've just been wondering, why exactly does it have the whole isekai set up, while it could've made more sense to just make it a fantasy series or VRMMORPG setting.

Plot wise it's mostly in service to the other three heroes being idiots. If it were a straight up normal fantasy, then the other three would have grown up in the world and known it's real (or if isekai'd into a world without video game elements, they'd at least have more evidence that the world is real). If it were a VRMMORPG then they'd be right to treat it like a game. But it's a real world that just happens to be very game-like in a way that constantly reinforces their assumption that the whole thing is just a game even though it isn't, so they keep not taking things as seriously as they need to and create problems as a result. That it also resembles a game they've played makes the narrow-minded about what all they're capable of, as they refuse to consider anything a viable option if it wasn't an option in whatever game they played.

Because the king and countless others try and frequently set him up to fail. A god damn merchant tries to cheat him out of making money from balloon scraps. If I was put into his position I wouldn't be very trusting of people right off the bat either.

The only reason the shield seems strong is because he's the only person that put in any real effort. When the other heroes eventually put in the effort they start becoming far more OP.

I assume something along the lines of instead of a fabricated, crazy-ass framing of a kidnapping put on shield boy, killing her would kind of make him an irredeemable criminal outright. Peoples' minds could be changed about the situation as it is, but killing elites, much less royalty, in a bass ackwards place like Melromarc is probably not a good idea. That and right now all Naofumi knows about her is that she is merely Queen Bitch.
