Anime didn't do a good job at showing how Quinella only lost because she did not expect Kirito's sword to hurt her.
At not point did Kirito overpower Quinella. He was going to 100% lose the duel with Quinella.
It was just Quinella's arrogance and she took Kirito's challenge to challenge him head on, basically got baited to fight Kirito head on, one last time, even though she had already won.
Basically, I felt like the anime didn't show very well how much Kirto was struggling against Quinella.

The anime does try to make Kirito more of a self-insert by making his design more generic (as opposed to being an trap), and even making some of his losses less apparent. Like how the anime tried to insinuate that Kirito could have beaten Yuuki in their rematch (via that dumb timeout), even though the novel had her straight up beat him.

The anime also fucks up a lot of his characterization by axing his monologues. Making him seem more generic. I think Alicization has done a better job there than previous season, but it might just be because the source material is better and it's obviously not quite there regardless.
The anime basically didn't showcase Kirito's guilt in relation to Eugeo's death at all, but I guess that should be clear enough when he's shown cuddling with swords. Higa explains it pretty clearly as well if I remember correctly.
