Nothing in Shield Hero is written particularly well - not the waifus, not the worldbuilding, not the story, and definitely not the emotional pulls. Getting angry at Malty requires you to project heavily onto Naofumi because as you said, nothing the character did had endeared her to you, so the 'betrayal' only felt like exactly what it was, a cheap plot device which barely even makes sense.

Video-game logic is based on the limitations of the medium - if a game could portray a slight boost in strength or experience or whatever as a visible effect without having to literally spell it out to the player with numbers, I'm sure many of them would.

The Pig King is described to have over 10,000 wise and 1/8 of em apparently dont survive the wedding night. Idk if it was just the translators at the time having fun but thats what I remember. Well in the chapter after bitch get sentenced the scene changed to Naofumi, His Harem, The Heros and a few other side characters watching Bitch getting raped to death over and over again. Anytime she breaks and dies she gets healed and the pig king keeps it up until he is done with her. At the end the Pig King actually offers Naofumi a vid of the action before they leave. Naofumi realizes that if believe really hard that you can open the windows for their weapon buffing and tries to tell them but they are to caught up in their own bullshit. Naofumi's DEF gets so hard that they get THUNK'd when they hit him with a high powered skill.

They all get massively jealous that his reputation is soring while their stock is decreasing. They all knew the next major event in the game was the spirit tortis boss fight, which was a easy mid game boss in the games they played. So they all ride ahead without telling anyone anything to spawn kill it for the fame and recognition. However they get fucked because the Turtle is as big as a mountain and they get their shit kicked in hard, so hard they vanish for like a month.

Moyatsu's party splits ways and is eventually betrayed by all the girls in his party for being lame,. He gets cursed after he realized that the last party member he thought he could trust was setting him up to be captured by Naofumi, this awakens the lust curse in him. Itsuki is completely betrayed by his party, selling out on him even before they get raped by the turtle, he gets the pride curse which turns him into a vegitable. Ren gets party wiped and is the only surviving member, he eventually gets the greed and gluttony curse and turns to banditry because his drops are fucked.

anywho. they've got a tendency to really gloss over what's going on in the character sheets, they don't have anyone really talk about it where in the LN its a common part of shield's internal monologue. unless you want to pause it and try to work out whats on the UI during those brief flashes, and I'm sure it would just take too long to explain it all in dialogue at this point. anyway, in the case of the curses, the impact to folks like raph are pretty much purely in her stats getting cut by like 30%. for ren it's much worse, the cut is deeper and he cant soak it away with holy water. for bow he practically gets lobotomized on-top of getting his stats cut way down. its all because they were using their cursed weapons and didn't stop in a timely manner, they more or less just kept going until their mana was exhausted IIRC, which let them soak in the curse juice for ages.

So there was a guy who was reincartated into this world from our world, he got "o hero'd" by a goddess and got a massive amount of abilities and knowledge. He goes on his own isekai journey becoming op as shit, he is level 300 with a harem of women at level 250. He activates some uber special ability to steal other heroes weapons. That plus the other heroes eventually share their method of stat gaining, which are all different, and refuse to believe each other. Naofumi gives them all a try, finds out the methods all work and uses that to power level himself so far beyond them that it's funny.

The "world" is a very big place, the Four Legendary Heroes can't protect every part of it, they are however in charge of most of the habited places. Since the heroes are only stopping the waves in Melromarc thanks to the Church the Seven Star Heroes are in charge of the rest of the world.

In later volumes, We now know that all slots must be filled. If there are weapons without heroes wielding them, including 7 star hero ones, the waves become that much harder. If all holy heroes die while the waves are besieging the world, there's a small amount of time(depending on how many seven star heroes are active) the world can still hold itself together in which new 4 holy heroes need to be summoned ASAP. At least of the good things that come from the weapons being stolen by takt is that at least it counts as far as holding the waves off is concerned.

The village of rock valley was in the middle of a battlefield where the bow and shield heroes were about to battle. To drive off the army of the bow hero, naofumi employs a classical grief tactic found in MMOs, the Mob Player Kill. Naofumi aggroes a ton of monsters and runs straight into the bow hero's army and had the monsters attack the army, the monsters(including dragons) in the bow hero's army were also aggroed and turned on the army too. When the rest heard of the plan, they all were surprised, except ren who knew how that worked. Melty chastises naofumi asking him "Don't you think this is how the legend of the shield demon came to be?"

When Raphtalia is temporarily freed from him and he pushes her away saying she'll betray him and only accepts her when she becomes his slave again, most people took it as 'Raphtalia's show of trust and care for Naofumi earned her his respect again', but that wasn't it. The actual reason was that Naofumi is uncomfortable interacting with any girl he doesn't literally own now - Raphtalia's sacrifice didn't mean anything to him, he was only thankful that she was now under his control and incapable of betraying him (Even though it was obvious she was never going to), like she had been before.
