But then it came out and ended up being a bait and switch with the movie dealing with heavy handed shit like what's it's like dealing with a massive natural disaster without being in it, the paradoxical dichotomy of wanting to be destined for something more in life like a soul mate but also controlling your destinty, and other crap.

Of course it looked amazing on top of all of that and broke all the records. So Yea Forums being the hyper autistic contrarian cesspool it is decided to to shitpost endlessly and derail all the threads. It's good but it's overrated to the extent that people resent it for literally overshadowing every single other anime film ever made, despite most people considering many of them better.
For me, Mamoru Hosoda's movies are mostly all better than Your Name so it's slightly annoying to see people wanking this one when there are better things around.

Cause it's shit. I mean it was pretty to watch, but that's it. The plot is literally just time-travel bullshit mixed with some poor romance. It felt like one long ad for the Radwimps.
