Never finished Nagisa's route or watched the anime, but Kyou's route was really great for how shitty it made me feel. The circumstances were actually plausible as far as these things go, and the choices I selected were mostly whatever felt right rather than planning on a certain ending.

For me Clannad S1 was really slow and boring but i get it, it's a VN adaptation afterall, and i don't see what's the porpouse of the girl with the star and stuff but overall it gives a really great build for S2, i honestly loved S2, i love how everything changes so fast, how in S1 we had this school filled with friends and everything seemed so good it was going to last forever, then it is shown how life changes, how you get distant to others, then the big sacrifce the father has to do for the family working and working, it's really a big nostalgia depressing thing but is so realistic it's beautiful, but what sold it for me as a really great show was the relationship between Tomoya and his father, how it was developed from S1 to the climax when Tomoya forgives him and the father leaves, that's probably one of the best scenes i've seen in the entire anime medium, how he finally managed to put himself in the shoes of his father to understand how he was feeling all along, it's really realistic and beautiful, there's so much more than Ushio dying, so much more.

I liked Season 1 for Kyou (and her route in the VN) but just by reading about it I can tell I wouldn't like Season 2. I still keep wanting to read/watch something with a character like Kyou and with a main character that's a bit like Tomoya, in the limited sense of having similar humor and not being generically nice or wimpy.
