I literally picked up the guitar just so that I can cover that Yui solo in the first episode of S2. Still making progress putting in an hour or two a day of practice.

I did already play several other instruments at the time but I picked up the guitar pretty much because of K-ON. I've been playing it for 8 years now and I'm not super great at it yet as you would expect, but I'm starting to reach the level where I can use the guitar as a tool to improve my songwriting workflow (whereas previously I would write in MIDI and then learn it on the guitar afterwards, which I still do a lot but not exclusively anymore), I feel like my playing technique is starting to add something positive to the music that I make instead of being a struggle to not sound like shit even if I'm playing the correct notes, and it surprises me that I can actually learn pretty advanced songs if I practice those specific songs super hard.

The best advice I've ever gotten is that you need to have the determination to suck and fail super hard. If you have that, you'll eventually git gud too. Drums are a ton of fun to play so you should reconsider that giving up part.

The anime added a lot so reading the manga feels like a greatest hits compilation of scenes that move quickly from one to another. It also has more fanservice, both visual and in dialogue. I enjoyed it but they're two different experiences. The manga isn't very long so it's worth reading. There's also College and Highschool. Highschool especially I enjoyed a lot.
