I always thought the spinoffs and main series would have been running as one. It is clear that many of the spinoffs were running on decent ideas that hadn't occurred to Kamachi the first time around.
Imagine if, instead of appearing out of nowhere, Kakine was introduced in Daihaseisai arc like in Railgun, and his plan is revealed across more than just a single episode before it all falls apart... in a single episode. Would have made the hype for the fight even better.
