They're all horrible people. Ranma has tried to brainwash Akane into being more feminine with a "housewife flower" (Pink & Link arc), and tried to brainwash Ryoga into falling in love with Akari (Akari's Debut arc).

I generally find it's her intelligence and ability to control herself, rather than flying off the handle at the slightest thing like the main cast do. She makes a good foil.
Plus, she could very easily have been an interesting official wife for Ranma; if Ranma had shown up at the Dojo in his male form first, she would have accepted the engagement, so who knows how the series would have gone from there.
Funny thing is, in the anime, Kodachi's actually not that implausible a choice. She's actually come to Ranma's assistance twice in two seperate anime episodes, and shown a surprisingly soft and loving side, albeit still flamboyant and eccentric.

She has her moments, but they're few and far in-between. Really, Akane just seems more self reflective than most characters.She'll think about what she did wrong, but end up doing it again. Which kinda makes her a worse person, because she actually does have a working conscious. I wouldn't dare put her on the level of Kasumi or Tofu though. And Ranma's mother is a crazy person, no matter how motherly she can be.

Ranma would dodge responsibility no matter who he's paired with. With Shampoo or Ukyo, they'd just let him do whatever he wanted and probably provide for him the rest of his life. With Akane, once she starts nagging him, they'll fight, then he'll do whatever he wants and get punished later for it. He won't learn his lesson, so stay exactly as he was before.

To be fair, Ranma gave her the command of "go home safely", because she wouldn't leave and that was only after she had already tried to get him to hug her on command, and screwed it up.

Akane is typically pretty kind with most people other than Ranma, but we're talking about her in relation to Ranma. I can't think of any time where Ranma sexually harassed Akane. He's done plenty of stupid things like showing up in the girls locker room to get to the spring, or sneaking into her room to get Ryoga out of it, but I don't think Ranma's ever done anything to Akane sexually with intent to harm. The only thing I can think of is him accidentally looking up her dress and commenting on her panties during the Kuno stuff early on. Over time, once she learns what kind of person he is, she should trust him more. She comments to herself several times on how some things he's done were just misunderstandings, but Akane's temper is 0-100, and Ranma get's the it the worse. I'm not saying Ranma is innocent all of the time. He some of his offhand comments and observations can make the situation worse, but she never takes in his intent during these moments.

Having read the manga and then watched the anime, I disagree. The anime actually takes OUT some of Akane's worst moments from the manga, like continuing to treat Ranma like a potential rapist at the end of the hypnotic mushrooms story, or accusing Ranma of trying to rape Hinako.

That's just the thing about Ranma 1/2. There's a certain amount of logic and common sense that you pretty much have to ignore, because the series is focused on being funny and keeping the dynamic going. If the characters talked their problems out, stopped looking for easy solutions to their problems, and fucked off when they were told to, there wouldn't be a story, there wouldn't be a cast.
