Because araki made it into science. Part 5 literally says stands are due to a deadly selective virus. It's so dumb he did this.

Araki is the kind of person who comes up with an idea but doesn't think it through, like how in Steel Ball Run the president's plan for global superiority was to show to the whole world they had the entire corpse of Christ as a relic, when the whole point of Christianity is that Christ didn't left a corpse behind because he revived from the dead.

Before, Stands where just something anybody could get by training Ripple, and some people where just born with it like Kakyoin.

How can somebody know what his stand do, when you can only activate it after you die.

Gappy stops using Soft and Wet's ability to steal things because that resulted from being a fusion of two people, and as the part progresses he becomes more of his own person.

What, that's completely wrong. The corpse had superpowers that can misdirect misfortune, making it extremely valuable for a nation looking to dominate the world.

Infamous L.A.R.G.E doesn't need any fixing because he's not an expection of Stand rules, it just so happens that his unique power is exactly breaking one of the stand rules..

Stand special powers can stop time, cross timelines, turn fiction into reality, accelerate the universe into rebooting, creating an absolute void that forces the universe to shrink... and you find it too much that a Stand's power is specifically to "activate its special power upon death"?

And it's not like there was no precedent. Anubis and Atom Heart Father are examples, though B.I.G. was the first case of if not needing the stand to be Bound to an object.

Togashi already explained this plothole in HxH's current arc. The Stand rebuilds the body of the user after it consumes another person.

Carne had probably already been killed in the past and his Stand had already eaten somebody and revived him. That is how he knew.

The stands tell their owners their powers. See Echoes Act 3. He probably just asked his stand what its power was.

I dont think he knew how it worked to its fullest though. he probably thought it was a stand that powers up based on your feelings (hatred), but not that it activates after death.

Kars remembers stands and his ultimate form can copy and upgrade them as he wishes
