stop trying to convert me, mechanigger

I did but really just watch star trek instead, its much better.

>star trek
this is so irrelevant, why even bring it up?

I watched like 3 episodes years ago. Does that count?

Because its 0079 but better in every way

I don't see the similarities.

I watched the 3 movies
Is that fine too?

Recap movies > Show.

Fucking kill yourselves.

That's obligatory, anyone who insist on watching the TV instead the movies should be shot then thrown from the plane.

It's not.

>anyone who insist on watching the TV instead the movies should be shot then thrown from the plane.
Imagine actually believing this. Just admit you have the attention span of an 8 year old.

>0079
is this some sort of james bond bullshittery

no. just gundam.

No, I just prefer the actual finished product as it was envisioned by its maker.

Attached: img000017.jpg (853x1200, 279K)

isn't there both a TV series and movies? can I just watch the movies?

>another thread where bandwagon jumpers try and rationalize watching the movies over the series

I watched 20 episodes. Got sick of Amuro acting like a spoiled brat and throwing a tantrum every other episode.

It has space.

Then you should read the novels.

Why don't you just read the Wikipedia article and call it a day?

If I want to get into Gundam, how should I watch it? From what I've gathered so far, it seems like it goes:
0079, 0080, 0083, Zeta, ZZ, Char's Counterattack, and then everything else is other continuities?

Watch the first 3 tv series then CCA. If you want to you can watch 0080 first or after 0079 but I wouldn't suggest watching the other OVAs until after those first 4. Especially 0083.

Also Victory and F91 are in the same timeline but are in the future and don't really rely on earlier things. Turn A and G-Reco are also technically in the same timeline but way further in the future. Turn A also has elements of other continuities but I think it's silly to say not to watch it until after watching every other Gundam including AUs, which I've seen people say. It should be fine watching it after 0079-CCA.

>how should I watch it?
Production order, anything else is hubris.

0080 and 0083 are side stories. They can be watched completely independently.

The ending of 0083 sets up Zeta though. It's better if you've seen Zeta.

What the FUCK did he mean by this?

Attached: 1528631477079.png (1920x1080, 854K)

Precisely. In his list 0083 is before Zeta. Chronological order is really no good.

Milkies gud.

Attached: doggy.jpg (764x764, 134K)

What's wrong with chronological order? It contextualizes the events leading up to Zeta and makes the experience more enjoyable.

Here his your guide book to watch Gundam.

Attached: 1539005335920.png (1016x2712, 262K)

Too busy watching the superior Zeta Gundam

Attached: 1523851167783 (1).gif (500x280, 1.75M)

0083 really doesn't enhance Zeta in any way but rather significantly simplifies it's setting and brings down its political background to the level of shonenshit.

>watching zeta gundam without having seen 0079
what the fuck?

Attached: 278431238741.png (173x347, 52K)

but most of 0079 takes place on earth

It's boring as fuck to start but like 12 eps in or so I couldn't stop watching it, it's actually a good show.

>watching the sequel without seeing the original
what are you doing retard

based

But why would you shoot a man before throwing him out of the plane?

Because Lady Une is full of shit and there's no way anyone could shot a man who has been thrown from a plane.

Stay tuned. Bright slaps the shit out of him a couple episodes later to correct his behaviour.

Literally NO one is shilling the movies. Holy shit, even OP is telling you to watch 0079, that's the TV series.

It still works, he's not gonna be lost or anything, Every call back to 0079, be it reintroducing old characters, or plots that happen back then into Zeta explains itself or gives you a flash back to what happened. Nigga should still watch 0079 though.

I hope you didn't watch Zeta's movies, because they're even worse in regards to the whole "TV series vs Recap movies"

>It still works
It fucking doesn't though. user would literally have no idea about Char's character, and that reunion scene with Amuro would make absolutely no sense.

ennn pointless Grow up...

>> the series was originally entitled Freedom Fighter Gunboy (or Gunboy) for the robot's gun, with boys the primary target demographic.

So you assume only boys watch anime? Or robot fans only?

Ideon's good but I found it harder to watch than 0079 and it felt like it could have been cut down a bit more than it already was. 0079 was a really easy watch for me and there wasn't a second I got bored which is why all the people complaining that 0079 is too long or boring gets me.

No roasties allowed

The TV series is great but it's slow and animated poorly even for the time. Lots of anime fans can't handle episodic storytelling anymore so they wont be able to appreciate how good the characters and setting is. The movies are so truncated they are nearly incomprehensible and not emotionally investing at all. Only the third movie has any real merit.

I did not see Degwin's death coming.
That shit genuinely shocked me!

Attached: 1531272052867.png (600x450, 492K)

0079 isn't episodic.

Large swaths of it are. You have plot arcs and then point a to b monster of the week episodes.

Not really though, every episode outside of Doan's Island serves as a cohesive element to the overarching narrative.

That's not what episodic storytelling means. Yes, most episodes lightly advance towards the next destination, just as much as say, Pokemon does to the next gym. This of course varies depending on where you are in the anime as some radically advance or change the state of the characters.

I genuinely think this is a great line. It always knocks out people clean, it's rare when a character you think you know says something unexpected like this.

>comparing pokemon's storytelling to gundam
stop it.
you should rewatch the show, it actually has lots of nuance, right from the beginning.
even the newtype powers are foreshadowed early on.

Attached: [EG]Mobile_Suit_Gundam_33_BD_V2(720p_10bit)[2926EE54][00:14:07]001.png (960x720, 826K)

I think you need to rewatch the White Base regrouping episodes.

None of what i'm saying is calling Gundam bad. I LIKE episodic stories, but many do not.

Also every episode is consistent in character development, whether it's Amuro or the White Base crew.
0079 is really phenomenal in this aspect of its cast.

>there are people still reposting the same thing on Yea Forums RIGHT NOW about 0079
Why is this allowed?

I don't see it as episodic though. Episodic implies a resetting of the narrative every episode. Meaning you'd be able to watch a random episode and fully understand the context, contained to that specific episode.
This is not the case in Gundam, it's continuously built until the conclusion.

Would you consider Pokemon episodic? Many would.

Char wasn’t in Zeta though. You’re thinking of Quattro Bajina, hero of the AEUG.

But i've already watched 0079. No other Gundam though.

He had gaslit himself into a different version of him and Lalah's relationship as a result of the mental stress caused by so many years of fighting for so many lost causes.

because Yea Forums would rather watch moeblob or generic shonen anime rather than anime portraying the reality of war.

Can't blame them as they are mostly graphic whores with low attention span

that's completely fine, the "series" peaks with 0079. Mainly because Tomino did not want to franchise it in the first place.

it's not

>the "series" peaks with 0079
>he hasn't watched Turn A

Attached: GundamTurnASochie.webm (720x540, 1.75M)

>character you think you know
Considering Char's entire personality changes every other show.

Zeta is best Gundam no contest

>even the newtype powers are foreshadowed early on.
They really aren't. At least not in a good way. At best it's just Matilda randomly saying that she thinks Amuro is a psychic and gives no reason for why she thinks so.

This. Turn A is best Gundam and also Best Tomino.
It's also best Honorary Ghibli; comfy anti-war without being too in-your-face as Miyzaki tend to be while also not being too angsty like peak depression era Tomino

why would you shot someone before throwing them from the plane

Not hard when literally all they watch is whatever trash happens to be airing concurrently with a given season of anime circa 2019 and even then only what social media considers trendy, which is usually repetitive garbage like Isekai or talking head teenager melodrama shows. I'm convinced that most of the people that would post on Yea Forums, MAL, Crunchryoll Reddit etc. (same shit "culture" to me, sorry Yea Forums) have very little idea anime even existed before around 2010, let alone are aware of any animated movie or OVA that isn't tied to some late night anime property. What passes for outside of Asia anime fandom is goddamn joke nowadays and that's just one example. Shitposting, memes, claiming to be blown away by whatever generic popular shit with the most memeable stuff in it is trending among their social media echo chambers in a given month. It's noticeably worse this way since about 2014 as well with the people that have only been watching anime at all for a few years but act like it's their identity and somehow belongs to them as a collective or something.

It's really little wonder Japanese fans are starting to wonder openly what the ever loving fuck is going on with overseas fans "tastes" and why they seem ignorant of just about everything to do with the medium they supposedly enjoy and have such different outlooks on the same medium in comparison to Japan. Like as weird as Japan's taste can get at times to me at least I get the sense most of them know what the fuck they are talking about and aren't THAT ignorant in comparison to the Western ones. The unhealthy obsession some of these teen edgelord types having with avoiding anything deemed to "normie" is probably a big part of the problem too. Like of course their taste is going to be bad and limited when all they're willing to watch is counterculture late night bullshit that Japan in general doesn't even like all that much.

TL;DR: Bunch of Niwaka otaku forming the bulk of American fans.

I'm pretty sure much of Yea Forums and anime fans in general would actively avoid watching this show literally just cause it's associated with /m/ and establishment type mecha stuff and "We have to maintain our own culture you guys! Now back to consuming generic several like it a season light novel isekai garbage in 12 episode spurts with my dudes because it makes us all look just that much more counterculture. We da best forever!"

Only slightly exaggerating too, that's what how you people all come across most of the time now. Less about what you actually come to like and appreciate in anime and more saying or doing ANYTHING to avoid associating the dreaded "Normie taste" label.

just finished 80: war in a pocket, shit that was really sad.
poor guy doesn't have to die.

The punchline here is Yea Forums doesn't actually have it's own culture at all despite it's routine insistence that it has one that needs to be defended to the death against reddit and twitter's emergence as a hub for weebs. It's more or less a sliding scale of counterculture approaches based on what seems to be popular at a given time and collective insistence that no Yea Forums has in fact the polar opposite of those tastes because reasons. You literally see the entire board flip flop on entire shows, genre's and concepts within the same season as it become aware of how the greater social media landscapes often dumb reception of those things falls into place after a month of whatever seasonal garbage it's been consuming. It all makes it look just as fake as reddit and twitters histrionics about seasonal anime stuff and like a bunch of people barely even thinking and just saying shit to "fit in with the culture". MAL is still worse for coming across like a bunch of fake opinion fucks and twitter is just a bunch of morons shouting memes of the week into the void as fast as it can post them, but it's not by much.

It's really hard to deny that this is the answer, except for one thing. It's not really generic shonen and moeblob shows though, that's maybe more accurate for Japan. It's anything Isekai and/or aggressively counterculture that rejects the idea that there can be positive inter-personal relationships or outlooks on life of any kind (and hammer the shit out of that idea in their narratives nd dialogues) that are aimed primarily at Japan's NEET demographic who see the world in that way and live out their entire lives on 2ch, niconico and MMO social games.

Western anime fandom has really embraced the whole I'm a shut in loser weeb that just nobody understands and it's the rest of the world that's messed up but not me thing that the worst of the worst NEET Niwaka otaku in Japan have for about the last 20 years or so, but unlike in Japan there's really little in the way of the other 90% or so of people that consume day time anime or mainstream film to make up for it fan culture and taste wise. We get all the worst tendencies of the Japanese fandom nowadays as the collective entirety of the western fandom's tastes and behaviors and boy does it make for one shitty lowbrow fanbase.

I don't what's funnier, the subtlety of this post, or the idea it might be someone's genuine opinion.

>Now back to consuming generic several like it a season light novel isekai garbage in 12 episode spurts with my dudes because it makes us all look just that much more counterculture.
Making fun of westerners for liking isekai/LN adaptations and not having good taste like superior nippon is the ultimate irony.

0079 was decent, but not as good as peopel say. Code Geass and Evangelion did it way better.

I'm sorry user

i tried to but i realized gundam and giant robots in general are a retarded concept especially in war since handheld anti tank weapons exists

The second IGLOO OVA showed how well handheld anti-tank weapons worked against mobile suits. Turns out not very well. I guess you could use them in space too but I don't think I've ever seen a space show with infantry flying around with guns. Not to mention Minovsky particles, making radar and I think any form of auto tracking not work so you'd have to get up close and try to hit a moving target that can move really quickly with no assistance.

Honestly out of all the shit that people watch in anime I don't see how giant robots stand out in being an unrealistic or stupid concept.

>Ai senshi
>Meguriai
Watching Amuro floating toward the crew without hearing the song feels incomplete now.

I still think the show us enrirely worth the watch.

Old and full of QUALITY, but the story and pacing are solid. Some of the best mecha battles ever too. You can easily see how it influenced so many newer shows.

It's a true classic, basically.

Genuinely, yes. People like to meme about Tomino and while it's true that he's not perfect (because no shit, nobody is) he does a pretty good job with Gundam and 79 remains solid even when compared to plenty of modern gundam series.

I watched the movie trilogy.

I watched 0079 but couldn't get into Zeta at all, can I get some of the best standalone spinoffs to watch?

the salt episode is too important, huh?

wing is the only one worth watching

I was certain that Gundam started with the 1995 version.

Attached: 1553706872177.gif (300x200, 1.57M)

love this meme.

It is baiting faggots into watching one of the objectively worse anime in history and worst in gundam franchize. It was horribly animated, had shit pacing and plot, it was so bad it was cancelled when it aired. If not for Zeta, Gundam would be dead thanks to 0079

t. laugthing SDF Macross chad

Seed, Destiny, 00, After War, Turn A, Wing - in that order

Ignore all UC shit

>2019
>still trying to start dumb fanbase wars
Don't you peons ever get bored of this shit? Are you that sad that you can only have fun from starting this kind of crap?

What fanbase wars? I am just saying 0079 was complete pile of crap. i am Gundam fan that watched all of it aside from SD kids stuff.

Guntam only got good with Zeta, 0079 was a disasster and there is absolutely no point in watching it now since it got fixed in movies and had many remakes since, one we`ll have airing this spring season.

If you want to watch ancient mecha show - Macross is a contrast being actual classic, compared to disaster that was 79.

You are a retard if you genuinely try and compare Macross with Gundam. They are completely different types of shows with different focus even if they're both mecha.

Reminder, UC is non canon - the actual official Tomino Gundam timeline is

00 - the minovsky particle engines created
Gundam Origin - until colony Drop
After War - after colony drop, development of nano machines
Turn A - after nano machines destroyed earth in After War, nano machines destroy earth again
Victory Gundam - thousand years later
G Reko - recovery after Victory Gundam

They are both mecha shows aired in about the same time with purpose to be toy commercials. Except SDF Macross is great animated and directed and was major hit, resulting later in the Do You Remember Love movie which in japan rivaled Star Wars movies appearing in that time in popularity and impact.

Meanwhile Gundam was very very badly animated, horribly written and directed, had terrible pacing issues and was plain CANCELLED so bad it was. And only took off years later with Zeta and recompilation movies.

0079 fags are retarded and baiting people into watching litteral trash. If you want start of UC gundam - either just watch movies, gundam origin or just start with Zeta.

They should be banned

finish it you goofy nigger its GOOD

Could Char wear a bikini if Char was Charlotte Aznable? No protagonist of moe anime can wear a bikini....

It’s not allowed

>0079
>suffering
???
You didn’t even watch it, how would you know anything? You probably had this stupid sense of “completion” in your mind, therefore you took the fastest route to it when Tomino did NOT want to make sequels.

SDF Macross looks like fucking shit though?

>SDF Macross is great animated
>If you want start of UC gundam - either just watch movies, gundam origin or just start with Zeta.

Attached: e9d.jpg (600x600, 18K)

Stop projecting, baby. The only people who can defend 0079 are ones who fell to /m/ memes. It was genuinely bad show and no one who watched it can deny it. It should be saying, that one of the most iconic mecha animation terms "Itano circus" came from Macross.

youtube.com/watch?v=Cfk_TXE8UaQ

its far far better animated than 0079, as for the rest its disputable. Also, Macross Zero is probably THE best animated mecha show to date still, which is shame given how many years went past and its still unrivaled.

>complains about bad writing and characters
>recommends the origin

>I don't usually like mecha but

Yet here we are 40 years later and Gundam is still the biggest mecha franchise of all time and 0079 will be forever remembered as a legendary classic constantly pade homage to, while Macross and Kawamori have been an embarassment of the entire genre for the last 20 years a barely anyone cares about SDF anymore.

>Macross Zero is probably THE best animated mecha show
1. This has nothing to do with the argument.
2. Lmao, Macross Zero is the CG shitfest.
You don't even know two shits about the series you're praising, you were probably thinking about Plus. Embarassing.

He clearly has absolutely no idea what he’s taking about. I don’t see the point in being so anti 0079, truly odd. Especially for him to prop up SDF Macross when they have literally nothing in common.

i watched it 3 years ago and liked the fantastic world building and the characters but it had some annoying moments and the last 3-5 episodes were bad tbqh, should i watch the movies and move to zeta ?

>i watched 4 anime with giant robots and i find them similar because they all have giant robots

don't like gundam or mecha

>waah I want a mommy!

Meanwhile Amuro's out there with a new chick on his arm every series. More like Alpha Gundam.

This. Once Char lets his mate die it picks up a lot.

The only thing I liked about Ideon was everything.

Sazabi best girl though.

Yes.

When will Code Geass fans admit that S2 sucked?

It wasn't as good as Season 1 but still better than all of Gundam honestly

I have never seen a mecha show

Give me a proper order in which to watch everything Gundam related and I will.

Production order for UC.

OP is not telling you to watch everything Gundam related. OP is telling you to watch 0079. That should in the very least be a good clue for where to start from.

08th MS Team, IGLOO, Unicorn, Twilight Axis and Narrative are also in that continuity. Thunderbolt and The Origin are in the same setting but with some changes.

Then F91 and Victory are distant sequels which are technically in the same continuity but are basically unrelated until the manga-only arcs. And then there's Turn A Gundam and Reconguista in G, and that's a whole other thing that I don't want to get into.

Pretty sure that scene is movie-only, too.

Here, I'll make it easy for you.

Follow this list, except swap F91 and 0083. And feel free to skip G-Savior, Gundam Evolve and maybe MS IGLOO.

but mecha isn't a genre
mecha is the vehicle in which to tell stories of war

Did what exactly? Teenagers piloting giant robots better? That's about where the similarities end.

I like zeta and all, but the character interactions in zeta Gundam come across like they were written by an alien who had observed humans for several years, but still doesn't really understand us lol. At least in 0079 there's no scenes like this

I like all three, but you're obviously trolling. Eva and Geass aren't doing the same thing as 0079 though they're inevitably influenced by it.

Eh, there's only like two episodes of Geass that have anything remotely close to "Evangelion magic" and it was actually better in the sense of not ending that way.

It did. Not entirely, but yeah. It was worse.
