Dororo

But why though?

Attached: dororo-1602603.jpg (800x1123, 143K)

party is in my pants

he found out she's really a monkey?

Every time I see the manga panels, I feel glad that the anime made Hyakkimaru into an autistic killing robot.

He wants her to bathe properly.
No, he found a treasure map on her back.
What's wrong with these panels, there's a reason why they exist. It's not stupid fanservice.

No I meant why make the kid trans? Sure our protag see's the map but he also see's Dororo's anatomy here as well and I don't get Tezuka's intention with that.Though I do agree the panels do the characters much more justice than the anime adaption does.

Attached: dororo-1602514.jpg (800x1102, 180K)

>No I meant why make the kid trans?
Are you fucking retarded?

> Why make the kid trans

She isn't, in the manga she doesn't seem to know the difference between genders or is denying the reality to herself, and in the anime she seems to understand, but pretends to be a boy because boys are far less likely to get raped in the street or kidnapped/sold back in those days like women were, I'd guess that was why Dororo's parents were raising her as a boy in the manga too, especially considering they were living with a bunch of lawless bandits.

Is this a common understanding? When I see a character that is clearly female biologically but refuses to accept that despite multiple characters saying otherwise what else am I supposed to see that as? Its not like Dororo is a reverse trap, the kid genuinely see's themselves as male.
That's a lot of assumptions that are never shown or expressed in the manga once. Rape is never brought up, neither is Dororo "understanding" that concept ever a thing. The kid flat out starts tearing up when called a girl by the only character he trusts at the end.
I thought it was pretty clear that the only reason our protag starts pulling the "you're a girl" card is to finally get Dororo to leave him alone. I mean the guy was tying the kid to posts and it didn't get him to stop following him so what else was he supposed to do?

Attached: dororo-1602888.jpg (800x1147, 210K)

Dororo is an uneducated child in ye olde japan whose parents were raising her as a boy, I REALLY don't think it has anything to do with her own perceptions or considering herself 'trans' rather just that she believed/wanted to believe what she was told.

As it is, with any kind of knowledge on how shitty ye olden day japan was for women makes it obvious why her parents would intentionally raise her as a boy, and in the anime why she would masquerade as one even though she seems very much aware that she's a girl, it's not exactly something that needs to be spelled out.

I don't think the kid thinks of himself as trans, i'm saying I do.
And I refuse to believe Dororo see's himself as a girl when that is never even implied and even refused by the character himself a dozen times. It's even more telling when he won't even let your assumed "masquerade" up even when it is just his best friend there. The line he says about "there is nothing wrong with me" clearly shows Dororo is aware what boys should look like and does not look like one, and yet despite that refuses to be called a girl. I'm not sure what else to refer to this character as with that information. I don't care for queer politics or anything, but I can't imagine Tezuka meant anything else by the character beyond that considering what is shown and also considering what Tezuka as a mangaka has done with similar "girl but actually a boy" characters in other manga he has made. My question is mainly directed at why he decided to do that with Dororo as opposed to making him a him from the start.

> And I refuse to believe Dororo see's himself as a girl when that is never even implied and even refused by the character himself a dozen times.

I was referring to the anime when I mentioned that, as in the episode where Dororo gets sick she finds out the priest woman changed her clothes she asked Hyakki if 'she told you anything about me' like she understood the situation and hadn't wanted Hyakki to be told.

>I don't think the kid thinks of himself as trans, i'm saying I do.
That's because you're a fucking retard.

> but I can't imagine Tezuka meant anything else by the character beyond that

Except, like I said, that her parents were raising her as a girl to avoid the dangers that come with being a young girl in feudal japan? It's honestly enough of a reason by itself.

I thought people here were done with that trans shit. Dammit, there's a sucker born every minute.

Mio takes care of SMALL CHILDREN, for LOVE and FAMILY.

Well sure but that would be a normal reaction from a person that considers themselves a boy and so wants to be seen as such right? Dororo is consistent with that in the manga as well. He doesn't get naked around our protag until forced too, which is a similar concept. Dororo even shows contempt for how "women smell" which I think is also decent evidence of him wanting to distance himself from woman hood despite his biology.

But really this is secondary, if you want to see it as something else that is fine. I just am curious if there is a reason for making Dororo what he is. Is it a part of the whole "no one is born whole" mantra of the manga? And if so why and how?

The only good post itt

I dont find your argument very compelling.
Perhaps but since those dangers are never even implied in there world why would I consider them valid? They clearly live in a different world than us.
Yes I am new to Tezuka's work. I just started it a few months ago and didn't even know Dororo was his manga until after the anime began releasing. If you have some evidence suggesting my interpretation is wrong I am here to see it.

just never ends, they should keep that garbage contained in tumblr or wherever else.

DORORO HAS A CUNNY AND SHE WILL GET PREGNANT

It's literally one person who obviously came here from tumblr trying to start shit in every thread. Dororo is and always was a girl, gender identity has literally never been a thing for her character. I know the LGBT community and their diehard supporters are mentally ill in general but they are really fucking reaching with this show.

Look user, I am not trying to offend you by referring to a character how the character refers to themselves. I am trying to understand the intentions of the mangaka when asking WHY that character is the way they are. If that upsets you I am sorry, but maybe try having thicker skin.
I am new to Dororo and Tezuka's works, I have only read three. I do not care for queer politics or the like but how else am I to see a character who refers to themselves as he but is a she?

Understand that Dororo was created in the 1960s japan and the attitudes and circumstances were much different and she was told frequently (in a manner of comedy) to be more feminine.

Also that OP is gayer than Rosie O'donell and about as attractive.

>I am trying to understand the intentions of the mangaka when asking WHY that character is the way they are.
Anons explained it a few posts ago, or do you seriously think that Tezuka 50 years ago was pushing an LGBTPDGHK+ agenda in his manga? Maybe turning your brain off while reading mongolian comics would be more effective than trying to be woke.

>how else am I to see a character who refers to themselves as he but is a she
Jesus your fucking dumb. Consider the time period and setting this takes place. Being a orphaned little girl is a good way to get yourself raped and sold into prostitution by the endless amounts of people who want to make easy money. You are new to Dororo and it obviously shows, so I don't understand why you're spouting shit about a series and character that you obviously don't know anything about? At this point you have to be baiting because I can't take you seriously.

Did you find Dororo's weeping and genuine discomfort at the end to be comedic? I found it tragic and compelling. It is an interesting perspective. Older shounen often seems to bring that out in people, which is why I enjoy it so much.

Attached: dororo-1602897.jpg (800x1158, 203K)

You know those tomboy archetype where the girl get mad when she is being called a girl?
It is literally just that.

Get the fuck back to tumblr if you actually think this have to do with your western political correct LGBT agenda.
I browse nip discussion board quite often and literally ZERO Japanese think that Dororo is in anyway trans

No I do not think he was "pushing" any agenda. I am not trying to be "woke" I am trying to understand his intentions. If you do not think he was pushing agenda's then, what was he doing? That is my question.
I am new to the manga but not new to fiction nor shounen which is why I ask what I do. I do not ask that you take me seriously but know I am sincere. There was no implication of rape in the manga. I understand you may not consider that important but in a world where a boy who has no eyes, ears, or mouth can see, hear, and speak is a world different from ours and so I see that a lack of rape means a lack of rape in their world. Is that so fantastical?

This, it may be fantasy japan, but in basically any super old time setting, and especially feudal japan, you really don't want to be a young girl walking around by herself with no means of protection at all. It's not exactly a stretch to imagine what could happen even if it isn't outright talked about.

They are not my politics, you have me mistaken. It is fine they do not consider him trans, I am not asking them I am asking you. I do not consider Dororo a tomboy archetype as those consider themselves female by the end, Dororo never does. In fact it is clear to me he leaves the only true friend he knows because of the way he speaks to him by the end. Or do you think the fact being tied to a pole was not as severe as being called a girl meant nothing to a weeping Dororo? I do, which is why I question Tezuka's intention.

Ignore the shitposter, post OTP.

Attached: based hyakki.webm (720x404, 183K)

Where in the manga do you get that impression? I saw no such implication, nor did Dororo seem concerned about that when being exposed. More so he seemed more concerned about being called a girl than of being treated like one.

Sorry they expect you to not be a retard and have a general idea of why being brought up as a girl in a bandit camp in feudal ((fantasy)) japan is probably a bad idea.

I am not shitposting. I am genuinely curious of your opinions on Tezuka's intentions which is why I made the thread.

user if you are honestly serious, Tezuka was also a furry; who knows what the fuck he was thinking back then, just don't think about it so deeply.

Where does Tezuka show that expectation in the manga?

>I am genuinely curious of your opinions
No you aren't. This entire thread is just you bringing up redundant arguments that keep getting shot down by everyone else here.

You are suggesting that because of your personal bias towards his interests he should not be taken seriously as an artist? Or that his work should not be questioned or considered? Why?

Why is Hyakki so fucking adorable? Dororo basically loses her purpose of being 'the cute endearing character' with him around.

just ignore him, he'll just keep going otherwise.

Both are cute. Especially when together.

Cause she thought she is a boy until that point
And like any other small boy at that ages they hated being associate with yucky girls

How hard is that to understand?

Attached: dorororpng.png (1536x864, 347K)

I have yet to be convinced by the few arguments made. If this was an easy answer I would not be asking others for their opinions. I suspect you may be used to anons bringing things up just to start a fire, but I do sincerely wonder about Tezuka's intentions with Dororo. That has yet to be discussed I am afraid .Even if he was only meant to be raise as a male to protect himself, why is that the case despite it never coming up in the manga? If rape is a threat why is it never shown?

You should all i&r OP's posts and the thread.

Do you guys think Hyakkimaru will have this red mark on his eyes when he gets them back? Or was it just a stylistic choice for the ED? I think it just looks kinda cool.

Attached: 5432524326326.gif (500x462, 1.14M)

Just let this thread die and make a proper one another time.

Is someone wanting to know something so hard to believe?
>at that point
If this is true why do we never see him change his mind or perspective in the manga?

Don't bother discussing with this lot on this matter. Your concerns are legitimate. But personally I suspect it was just a fetish for Tezuka. I doubt he ever thought that deeply about how Dororo identifies. If he ever thoight about it at all. Everytime Dororo goes on about being a boy she's either pitied or treated like a misbehaved brat. No one treats her or what she's saying seriously.
He probably just wanted to draw a bratty girl getting hurt and walking around with her asscheeks visible because he's into loli ryona.

If you want opinions and clarifications but you are still refusing anything anons say to you, then it's pointless.
Honestly at this point I don't give a fuck anymore, go back to the shithole you came from.

I am thankful for your understanding but if you consider it a fetish for the mangaka I wonder why you would still refer to Dororo as her. Is this a common thing for fans of the manga? If so why? I understand Dororo is a girl biologically but since this is never concluded in the manga that phrasing seems out of place.

This person is baiting, ignore and report

Open a thread on Monday for the episode

I am from Yea Forums, which doesn't discuss anime anymore. Is discussion no longer encouraged on this board?

She only learnt about that at the last chapter.
Also Dororo in the manga is always a crybaby and cry over the pettiest things, her weep isn't even as serious as you made it out to be

It is oblivious that you didn't even read the manga and just here to bait.
Fuck off.

I mean he liked and wrote a lot of traditionally unconventional stuff, it doesn't always have a deeper meaning.
>Even if he was only meant to be raise as a male to protect himself, why is that the case despite it never coming up in the manga?
It is basic logic to other people who read it.
>Is someone wanting to know something so hard to believe?
Because you sound like a shitposter pretending to be a visitor who is trying to fit in.
Here is your (You) dude.

Is discussion something that needs to be reported?
He rarely cries and when he does he hides it. I finished the manga last night, I loved it. Which is why I am asking about a character I do not understand the intentions of.

Attached: dororo-1602695.jpg (800x1165, 219K)

Stylistic choice I guess

Not that user but Tezuka was conservative at his core at gender roles (men and women have their determined roles according to nature, as the way it supposed to be, and princess Saphire has a boy heart) and I wouldn't be surprised he read an anti-feminist rant in the newspaper one morning telling how feminist would confuse little girls into thinking they're boys and viceversa. While Dororo was being published, the feminist movement was blooming in the west and anime & manga often took a conservative stand

I think you have brain problems

>basic logic
It feels more like assumed logic to me, which is barely logic at all. If basic logic was used we would infer our protag could not hear despite the fact he can hear, am I wrong?
I am sorry if I sound like something I am not. I have tried my best to be genuine and forward speaking but if that is not good enough I do not know what is. I have been posting on this site since before /l/ and /g/ where removed. Not that it matters, time on this site stopped being relevant when entire websites where made to catalogue memes. Perhaps I am just too old for all this.

He didn't seem to feel that way about Black Jack's ez-lover interest which is why I was interested in his intentions with Dororo including how Dororo is treated in the manga.
Are those problems you think I have too severe for you to communicate with me?

The other readers came to that conclusion due to their understanding of the dangers that a little girl could face in that living situation which led to her parents' decision to raise her as a male instead.
>Perhaps I am just too old for all this.
If you are not baiting then you are just overthinking things, it isn't a serious plot point.

Its a plot point that ends the manga, how is it not serious? If there is another reason Dororo stops following the protag please tell me what it is. It cannot be simply Dororo's quest to find the gold as that plot point is dropped and never picked back up after the Moth monster interrupts their argument several chapters before the end of the manga.

the ending of the manga is just a shitty rushed ending in general.

Dororo has a smelly cunny

What kind of speedreading is this?

1. The manga was axed
2. Dororo didn't wanted to stop following Hyakkimaru, Hyakkimaru cut tie with her since he wants her to stay safe and Dororo was crying because of this

We never find out anything, it doesn't really matter to the rest of the story, Tezuka just needed Dororo to stop following Hyakki at that point, I don't find it important because the manga-ka just killed the manga off there.

REALLY?!

Man, the party just got started then.

You have evidence of it being rushed?
I did not know it was axed. Nothing up until that point had stopped Dororo so is it so odd I found the one thing that DID stop him to be significant to the story?
Well alright but is it not significant that is what he used to end it? He could have had Dororo loose a limb or something else but it was being called a girl that did it. Is that not worth taking note of?

Female doctors can have a nurturing role depending on how they're played and nurturing is the key word here. Besides it's not like Tezuka was /r9k/ but he showed a tendency that probably he wasn't even aware of.

Maybe he planned on revisiting it someday and marrying her off to Hyakki later if he didn't go with that 'Hyakki dies early' or the 'Hyakki has to kill Dororo' idea, it doesn't really matter user.

I am not sure what your speaking on nurses means here. Black Jack's ex? She went to he after the surgery.
Why does it not matter? The end of the story does not matter?

You're not curious of anything, you just want to talk at people and try to convince them you're right and they're wrong. You didn't come to learn anything you came to be validated in overthinking a goddamn cartoon.

> still replying to them

It got axed and was rushed, Tezuka needed Hyakki to get her to stop following him, that's it; you can speculate reasons but we will never know what he wanted and it doesn't matter to the rest of the plot.
Yeah, I'll stop.

>come for cute Dororororo
>get autism instead
ok

This is what happens when people make threads when the episode is still far off.

This isn't a comfy dororo thread.

Is this rape?

Attached: 1531512585453.jpg (1920x1080, 608K)

No, it is a shit thread.

I finished the manga last night and yes I am aware of his taunting Dororo and am still convinced this was his way of telling Dororo to leave him alone.
>japans social standards
Where is this shown in the manga?
I also hope the anime continues the many plot lines the manga failed to finish.
If the end of the story does not matter to the plot then why have an end. Sorry you feel the need to stop, I did enjoy talking to you.

You guys need to stay in your containement board. Yea Forums isn't the propriety of /pol/, you little bitches.

Being axed is different from having time to make a proper ending, that is all I can say; if you refuse to take that as a proper answer then I won't add more to it, you can continue speculating if you want but we will never know so it is pointless.

So you are saying this thread is quality and you're okay with being baited by a literal tumblrina.
Okay.

The social standards of Japan didn't need to be shown in the manga. It was a series made for Japanese people who were already well aware of these things. It's not something that needs to be explained for the audience it was originally intended for. And the reason you have an ending to the plot is so the plot can end. I don't know why that needed to be explained. A plot can just abruptly end, and not matter at all. If you enjoyed the story despite the ending, then you could say the ending didn't matter. I've read plenty of series with abrupt, pointless endings that I still enjoyed, so the story still had a purpose.

Why does it matter to you that he’s trans?

Stop replying to the retard. That's what he wants.

Very good post. I would have definitely given you a like without the perks and scores being a factor if we still had those.

Was there no episode this week?

Break. New cour on Monday.

>why you would still refer to Dororo as her
Because she's a girl you fucking faggot. As was explained multiple times to you, she's a naive child raised as a boy to avoid the struggles of girls in a feudal state. Don't conflate this with the autogynephilic, narcissistic, pronoun ad-libbing western "trans" movement that Japan does not give a single fuck about.

That is sad to hear but you have given no evidence to prove that so how am I to feel as you do?
I would suggest trying to be a bit braver.
>not matter at all
Then why have the story, if the end does not matter? I never said I did not enjoy the manga, in fact I said I loved it. Despite this I ask the questions I do. Is that so odd?
It does not. I wonder why the mangaka made the character how he did. What was the intention? No one seems to know despite such intense feelings.

Americans are so fucking ethnocentric, I swear it's only them that project their mentality in everything they consume, be it anime and manga or books, or else.

Because the story can still be enjoyed. I don't mean to sound hostile, but you seem to ask circular questions no matter what answer you get, which is probably why people are getting frustrated. The ending does not make the story, it's the adventure you have along the way, sort of like life. Life can still have a purpose even if your ending isn't very good. Just because the ending sucks doesn't make the story pointless, and it doesn't mean it didn't need to be told at all.

Why are you so upset by the idea of respecting a persons right to be called how they want? He wants to be called he, it has nothing to do with the politics you seem so knowledgeable about. Your obsession with western politics has nothing to do with me. Dororo wishes to be called a he, is that my fault? If so why?

What do you call a person who is born a girl but claims to be a boy where you are from? Considering your answer why did Tezuka make such a character?

Dororo isn't even a real person, holy shit you are so stupid

>the ending does not make the story
You are right, it ends it. Why does it end on the idea of Dororo being so upset by the idea of being called a girl that he no longer follows his best friend despite all they have gone through? Is this not worth asking? I never said the ending sucks. I never said it was pointless.

Why does that matter to the context of the question or the story? I do not mind insults but you seems somewhat upset, maybe calm down before engaging in a conversation that bothers you.

Why won’t you idiots just let this shitty thread die instead of responding? He’s never going to stop asking dumb circular questions.

MODS
O
D
S

You're never going to get an answer, because the only one that can accurately answer that question is the author of the story. How would anyone be able to answer that? We can provide our own thoughts, but those aren't satisfying enough for you. You asked "why have a story at all", and I answered that question. Theres nothing else to be said really.

Perhaps because they do not mind discussion as you do? Perhaps you are too sensitive to such things?
They have been called upon and not surprisingly do not care about conversation. Perhaps a different forum where mods remove everything you do not personally care for would be preferred? This is no such forum.

Dororo is a fictional character you fucking idiot. She doesn't have will or agency. Moreover, wanting to be called something doesn't change what you are biologically, and demanding that society change fundamental definitions just to enable your delusions is narcissistic and disrespectful, to others and to yourself.
>Your obsession with western politics has nothing to do with me
Your asinine suggestion exposes you as the propaganda pushing faggot you are.

If you have no other perspective is it really fair of you to blame someone else for your own shortcoming?

>demanding that society change fundamental definitions just to enable your delusions is narcissistic and disrespectful
How do you feel this informs Dororo as a character and why do you think the mangaka chose to put such a character into the manga?

Again, stop replying. Let it die and don't forget to i&r.

If you care for the mods approval why break the rules as you do?

It doesn't you insipid fuckstain. I already said that plot element has nothing to do with leftist concepts of "trans rights," i.e. the right to force society to play along with your digusting LARP.

Then why did Tezuka create a character that prefers different pronouns to the ones he was born with?

You're just going in fucking circles. It was already explained to you. It's another element of the setting. The fact that you think calling her by male pronouns is the right thing to do shows how far down the leftist mangina rabbithole you are. Fuck off.

Just stay in your safe-zone, you fucking snowflake.
