Why do you like anime/manga? I mean specifically, what do you find more enticing about it than every other medium?

I love animation because
1) it leaves room for almost unlimited amount of creative freedom
2) it's an extremely underappreciated artform that requires incredible amounts of artistic skill to produce
3) it manages to resonate with me emotionally, way more than live action does for that matter; why that's the case I don't know, I simply know that it is

Additonally, I also like Japanese culture, but I'd probably watch anime even if I didn't because the amount of non-Japanese animation is fairly limited and I happen to hate most Burger animation, which would only leave me with European animation to watch, the vast majority of which are shorts.

I don't read a lot of manga yet because I have a hard time moptivating myself to read comics. Story is usually the weakest link in media, be it animation or live action, so I am inclined to believe that most manga are as poorly written as the other two, but without most of the artistic merit.

Interesting insight, user. I aasume you mostly watch very artsy anime then?

It's cute

I watch a lot, especially since there are many "conservative" shows with great animation. Just recently I watched Real Drive and was impressed by the quality of the visuals. If I were to limit myself to "artsy" anime then I'd probably have ran out of content a while ago, but I've definitely developed a preference for movies. However, since I've seen (not completed) north of 2500 anime in total, I am definitely a shit-eater. But I am working on that! Rarely watch more than 2-3 airing shows nowadays. I don't have any genre prefenrences, either. As far as I am concerned, every single genre has good entries.

I prefer cartoons actually. They're usually more open to exploration and features a more developed MC.

Anime is mostly a storytelling medium though. Sure there are visual aspects to enjoy but if you're not in it for the story you're missing out.
If you care less for story and more for artistic merit, try watching some nature documentaries.
A lot of effort go into them and they're meaningful. You sound like someone who would appreciate them.

because western entertainment has to find a way to shoehorn politics into it and it actually affects the creative freedom of the writers. no one wants to take any risks now without risking hurting someone's feelings.

Lack of Judaeo-Bolshevist influence and anti-German hate-propaganda

Storyboarding is art. Acoustic directing is art.

Even if the show happens to have shit animation, that doesn't mean that it's void of merit. Just so happens that most people seem to care for two things exclusively: Pretty colors and story. I realize that audio visual media are a story telling medium, but that doesn't mean that the story is the most important part of it. Most writing is so shallow, predictable and derivative, that I can't see how someone could watch a lot of anime if that's what they cared for most. I think it's also important to differentiate between a story being good, and the way the story is being told being good. I don't think that there are many anime that tick both boxes, but there are plenty that tick one. Also: I didn't say that I can't appreciate good stories, but when I hear people say that something like LoGH has a good story, then my first response usually is
>maybe for a book (not even then) but certainly not for a piece that is part of the audio visual medium

Be that as it may, I also watch a lot of documentaries. That's the great thing about the internet. If you have access to the right private trackers you are essentially free to watch whatever you want, whenever you want.

I like animation more in general.
Most western cartoons ahev gone to shit and have been infected with sjw shit. I do enjoy stuff like Ben 10.
Anime covers a lot of niche tastes of mine.
A good medium of escapism for me
Characters look good

western animation is usually visually unappealing. like they intentionally make everything look ugly, and i'm not talking about recent stuff either. i'm not saying everyone should be the animated equivalent of gigachad, but at the very least don't make it an eyesore

It doesn't actively insult me or my ideals as much as hollywood does

I liek the pretty draws

More fun

I actually hate hearing the english language so goddamn much and i hate watching anything with "real" people (3DPD) so anime suits me perfectly

I love waiting for fucking years to see a dozen panels.

Here are my manga at the moment (and forever)

Aposimz
Otoyomegatari
Demi-chan wa kataritai
Berserk
GunnmmnnMars Chronicle
OPM
SNK
Gobby Slayer

This is just like my opinion man but

>Anime is not bound by the restrictions of real life, which allows for a lot more expressiveness in certain contexts.
Of course certain genre's work better with live action acting, like romance or drama (and even then you're highly dependent on the performance of the actors), but most other genre's work better with animation. Certain shows/movies have so much CGI, I sometimes wonder why they don't cut out the middle man and go full animated.

>Anime is more "optimistic"
I'm sure this is mostly a Western-Eastern thing (or rather a traditional-postmodern thing), but anime tends to have a greater degree of 'optimism', purity, righteousness and all that other stuff. Western media on the other hand generally appears to have fallen for the "grim and gritty" meme where everything has to be dark and edgy. Either that, or it's childishly happy-go-lucky. It's as if there's no middle ground. From my experience French cinema is the worst in that regard, either it's the goofiest shit you've ever seen or it's about some serial killer who fucks corpses.

>Waifus
3DPD. This isn't even the "hurr durr Otaku don't enjoy looking at real people" thing (go home Miyazaki, you're drunk). It has a lot more to do with personality. I just can't stand 3DPD and even on an emotional level 3D women just piss me off. 2D is an oasis of enjoyable female characters in that regard.

>Japan hasn't fallen for SJW memes
This one's obvious.

That's my reasons.

If you were born speaking Japanese, you'd hate hearing anime just as much. Probably moreso because a lot of voices deliberately mimic certain archetypes. Think of "the tsundere voice" for example. Imagine hearing that in your native tongue.

I don't like manga and anime just because they're manga or anime. I enjoy good entertaintment because it's good, regardless of the medium.

For the most part I find the style of storytelling and recurring themes more interesting when compared to the ones you find in alternative mediums. I also like the variation and the fact that generally they don't care about PC bullshit.

not to sound like a huge weaboo but i think japanese sounds lovely , compared to english
but maybe thats because i cant actually understand jap

I like cartoons and animation. Most animation in the west is made for children, and the ones that aren't are pretty much exclusively raunchy comedies. Anime gives me that action cartoon niche that nowhere else does really.

I like manga because I like comics period
I dont really care for anime much
