The genre shift is not as brutal as Muv-Luv because during YU-NO first part you have some hints about what will be the main twist but yes it's not far. You start with a romcom comedy mood and bit by bit the plot transform into a mystery/sci-fi/fantasy mix. It's really hard to explain without spoilers.

Island is mediocre and the adaptation did a bad job. I don't know how they will handle this adaptation of YU-NO i think 26 episodes is not enough and the pacing in the first episode is quite fast. I mean they put the whole fucking prologue into 20min. They have to cut a lot of "side" content but the main plot is intact.

What was the point of making him obviously evil, with the slow-motion and sound-effect, if they were going to revel him as evil by the end of the episode anyway?

In the VN Takuya stripped to welcome Kanna to the class and got suspended for it so Kanna already knows who he is. The anime made it so he was introduced to Kanna before that prank and I guess no one cared that he did it this time.

Takuya is a complete abrasive, pretty much every guy he comes across he has dislike for instantly, the second he meets Toyotomi he wants to beat his ass into the ground, hell dude dislikes his own father. Only guy he really shows a bit of respect towards is Ryuuzouji , with good reason of course.
Takuya acts on impulse and says what he wants and does what he feels throughout the whole game, no clue how you think him blowing a fuse at his teacher is out of character at all.

It's a bit of a mystery VN, a few things brought up won't even have full answers until like the last half, maybe last quarter even, of the next cour, so don't go in expecting a huge infodump of exposition explaining everything this epsiode brought up anytime soon.

Terrible production values and pretty much missed the mark on all of the characters, but the plot is accurate if rushed.

Absolutely not. It just condensed the opening 2-3 hours into one episode, cut a bunch of shit accordingly, but also changed a bunch of other shit for no reason. The cutting I can forgive but not the latter. Add on the garbage new designs and middling production values and I see no merit in this at all.

It's decent enough. Despite adapting the entire prologue in one episode it doesn't feel very compressed. It's not so much that they casualized as it is that they did a terrible job at it. You can have a fuckton of icons covering your screen depending on where you are with no way to make them less opaque or hide them (without disabling object selection altogether, that is)

Everyone knows the solution is to keep icons hidden by default, but hold a button (shift) to reveal them.

Shit, clicking on different parts of the same object a dozen times to see if one of them is a different object is the most frustrating part of the game.

Meh, it's not that bad. Just systematically click on absolutely everything in like a clockwise pattern or something, until the text starts to repeat itself. And whenever it does repeat itself you just hold down the skip button and continue.

If anything I find it really charming just how many comments and monologues you can get on supposedly arbitrarily or irrelevant objects. It really helps to flesh out the world and the player character.

I mainly clicked the spots where it looked the most interesting--it's not as pixel-perfect as it seems: Clicking specific locations added flavour to the environment, and I just skip the text if it happened to repeat. The puzzle in the tomb is also not too hard to do without guidance too, it's mainly a game of picross. I really haven't got issues aside getting stumped on getting into a particular route.

Interesting, never knew that. I can somewhat see the fun of mapping it out by manually, like the good DOS adventure games. It makes me glad they added a map actually, and it's the first VN to my knowledge that pioneered to have that aspect in-game and interactive.
