I think my favorite was actually Episode 2 with the urban legends. I love the episodic slice of life episodes.

I'm gonna go and say that whilst not perfect, I quite enjoyed both seasons. There's some areas that could have been focused on but it's not like they're omitting stuff entirely (RIP Berserk: Lost children arc).

Season 2 was pretty great but it's finale wasn't nearly as good as season 1's, both animation wise and direction wise. Actually, I think the fight choreography overall is noticeably worse than it was in the first season. Sure there's usually a lot of stuff moving around, but for some reason they had a habit of cutting to wide shots right before a huge blow made contact with another character. It's confusing.

They can shoehorn the Reigen manga.

Holy shit. That last arc was the worst fucking garbage I've seen in a while. HOW exactly isn't this shounenshit? Not to mention the pacing is fucking awful, specially that last episode.

Anime-only here, I watched the final episode earlier and while I liked it it really felt like something was missing. I couldn't put my finger on it but the whole final fight in the first half of the episode felt like something was taken out, and also big bad going nuclear was expected but it felt a bit poorly conveyed how he lost control.

Then I watched it again with a friend who had read the manga, and he pointed out that not only did they completely cut out the captions of Mob's 100% emotion changing frequently, but they changed the fight a little, the fire-headed form was never that buff and the explosion was a more immediate reaction after the double-punch-block with mob, and mob commented mentally on the power being too much. If I could've added anything more to that, I would've had his percentage output increasing over 100% as he started exploding, reaching 200% by the time he looked like a fried corpse vomiting light

Why would they leave all that detail out? It seems really counter-intuitive and after seeing the manga version, I prefer it much more. If it was a time constraint problem, I would've cut out or shortened that awkward-feeling, out of place body improvement club skit in the second half to try and make room in the episode for it.

Yeah I felt the same way. But i read the Claw Arc and I honestly prefer the Anime adaptation. This season felt a bit rushed but still good. Mogami VS Mob was amazing but the arc was stronger in the Manga. As for the Claw Arc it was the opposite, great Arc overall but kind of a weak fight between Mob and Tochiro. Still great finale tho. Can't wait for S3

As much as it hurts to say, I agree. If Bones needed to cut anything out, it should've been that. They could've just let us believe they stayed at Reigen's place or something. It was welcome in the manga because the tension from the fight earned the comedy relief. But I feel like Bones kind of sacrificed Touichiro's character for some reason and it makes me really sad hearing people calling him a one-dimensional bad guy.

I just personally felt he articulated his world views a bit more intelligently in the manga. His initial dialogue with Mob when they first encountered each other in the tower is what made me interested in his character. The anime made it more about friendship and bonds, but it didn't come across that way in the manga. His fight with Mob felt a bit more earned as he exhausted all of Mob's efforts to reform him with logical responses that fit his character. And his turn around felt less like the result of friendship power and more of a genuine, mutual understanding between two similar people. I can see why some anime onlies are calling him generic, but it's upsetting because I know he was better written than that. At least to me he was

Is there for sure more and more detailed dialogue that conveys this, or could this be a matter of translation differences between the manga and the subs?

There's definitely more dialogue and interactions that were straight up cut out, but I can't say for sure that all of the dialogue in the version I read was translated correctly. So I won't rule out the possibility that I grew attached to some mistranslations.

Thats an understandable doubt, but the more I learn about how much seems to have been cut from his character and the final fight the more I'm lead to wonder why on earth season 2 went from an adaption that, if much WAS cut it felt very seamless or as though little to nothing was cut at all, to having such poorly covered up and hollow feeling cuts in the final episode of all things.

It was a shame they changed her, ONE can make some scary character designs, and the Kuchisakeonna was one of my favorites. Some user mentioned that apparently, back in the 80's there was a panic about that urban legend, guess they didn't want to ignite it back and scare the kids.

Yeah, I'm a manga reader and I have nothing but praise for how Bones managed to adapt the large majority of this season. I wasn't even upset about the Mogami arc like some manga readers were because the core message of the arc still survived.
With the Claw Arc though, they still managed to hit all of the beats, but with this kind of arc the devil is really in the details. The tiny missed opportunities they kept skipping over built up and the overall finished product just felt sightly off. And I say that as someone who has Mob as her favorite anime. I think Touchiro's characterization can make or break this arc, and Bones just wasn't able to dedicate enough time to it. It really was all about time constraints unfortunately, and so I can't bring myself to blame them.

That really is a shame, finding out about the fact they missed so many little details is a shame. I personally quite liked Touchiro's characterization in the anime as he presented a perfect fit for Mob having usually faced immature and illogical people behaving childishly or selfishly, he was more like a mature and logical character that had grown up emotionally and physically, but just down the wrong path. I felt it was enough... Until the final episode and his sudden backstory and 'redemption', which just felt counter-intuitive to his character [at least with their existing delivery], how different was that specifically in the manga?

Favorite Episodes: 7 and 5, 12 and 13 are also really good
Favorite season: Season 3 isn’t out yet so I’m gonna have to go with 2.

Reigen and its not close

In the manga Touichiro reminded me of a celebrity who was born into privilege and never had to navigate "reality". Mob's talk with him at the end of the fight seemed less like a power of friendship redemption moment, and more like him finally accepting that his world views may be flawed (instead of I am the protagonist of everyone's life, I am the protagonist of my own life). He was forced to confront failure for the first time and acknowledge that his powers didn't end up bringing him the ultimate joy he talked about.
We then find out that a big reason he was so dedicated to achieving world domination was to prove to his ex-fiance that his mindset was right. No matter how much he tried to deny it, relationships always mattered to him. An important part of the last arc was Mob being able to perceive how sad and isolated Touichiro was in his ideology. And it felt more organic seeing Touichiro reconcile that within himself in the manga than in the anime to me. I'll have to rewatch the last two episodes to make sure though.
I'm really happy you managed to enjoy Touichiro's initial characterization. He really is a fascinating foil to Mob.

It's one of the downsides of a seasonal format unfortunately. Fitting the arcs within 12 or 13 episodes meant some parts had to be condensed somewhat.

This. Mob is an egg wearing a wig, and he has a personality matching that description. There's so much praise for this season because "Mob starts to finally feel emotions". That's the problem. Mob is a boring and unentertaining character and is also easily the worst part of this franchise. Sure, the moments where he reaches 100% or when he reacts to something grave happening are interesting. Unfortunately, the other 90% of the time he's as entertaining as the egg in a wig that he is.

Episode 1 was great and entertaining. Entertaining episodes after that? Well, so far, it's really just the Reigen arc.

The couple filler episodes between episode 1 and the Mogami arc are complete pointless trash. Reigen and Mob just go around defeating random, undeveloped, and boring antagonists that have no motivations or anything. There's no entertainment value anywhere (maybe fight scenes?). These episodes are just Naruto Shippuden-level filler.

After you waste about an hour watching filler episodes, you are rewarded with the stupidest arc to ever be presented in MP100. MP100 usually goes out of its way to be unique and interesting, which is where the show really shines. Unfortunately, the Mogami arc is about as unique as the plot of Isekai Smartphone. Random nihilist antagonist shows up and tells Mob that no one likes him. Mob gets really sad and almost loses. However, in the nick of time, Mob remembers that he has friends, and then defeats random nihilist man with the power of friendship. Seriously, who wrote this trash? A middle schooler?

It's really easy to simplify shit until it sounds the way you want, but battling monsters is not the main aspect of the series. Episode 1 does take extra time establishing that the main character is an ESPer and that the world is filled with ghosts, but usually when there isn't a major arc, there's about two focuses per episode revolving on Mob's daily life and Mob's psychic life.

One movie would be jarring as fuck, how would that even work?
If anything, take the weaker alien arc and expand that into a whole featured length movie where Mob and his gang do exorcism on the alien planet, with some ONE-esque punchline at the end where the ghost haunting the aliens is some ridiculous shit from earth which got "believed into" being an evil ghost

Removing that stuff is mostly just basic application of Show, Don't Tell. They did the same in the Mogami fight.

ONE has a bit of a problem with redundant exposition sometimes, I'm re-reading Mob from the start and I didn't remember how much useless narration there was in Mob vs Teru,all for stuff that is already conveyed through visuals and dialogue.

I wasn't a fan of how contradictory this fight was to the point made in season 1's finale of not going head to head with someone with murderous intent. Mob turning Touichiro into a fucking pretzel was so aberrant for this show that it completely took me out of the moment. The rest of the arc was fine, but this fight was total shounenshit.

Youkai Arc is the first episode, short and fun, perfect starter.
Broccoli Arc is... 4-5 episodes? I don't really remember it much, but considering how condensed Mogami Arc and World Domination Arc were, maybe they could stretch it even more if needed.
Alien Arc is solid 2 episodes.
Confession Arc is at least 3 episodes.

it's a lot of setup with no resolution. I guess if you mixed in some of the omakes into them you could extend them, but those episodes by themselves would have no "arc" to them and would just be setup.

The final three arcs of Mob are ONE’s tightest written arcs imo. Everything gets resolved. Mob getting carried away it the entire backbone of the arc, as Dimple was the only one who actually told Mob that what he thought was happening wasn’t actually happening. If not for that, 100% Trust wouldn’t be as impactful. The even mention the phrase “carried away” several times during the resolution of the arc. Carried Away will definitely take up a bulk of an episode.

Meh, the entirety of Mob is still consistently better than the entirety of Shieldhero so far. I don't think Mob had any outright bad episodes while Shieldhero most definitely had some bombs. I think it's more impressive to maintain quality than to have a few high points. Shieldhero is still on going so I'll reserve my judgement, but it doesn't even come close to beating the direction in Mob for me.

Mob S2 had exactly two good episode in season - 1 and 5. The rest was meh and the last two plain weak. Praising Bones for consistency must be a joke, because they are anything but. Most of episode 12 were stills and pans and the fight in ep 13 had only one real good sequence.

The best they had this season was litterally done, both animated and directed by one chinese guy.

Shinra was on a season finale poster too, looking injured and ready to brawl but he wasn't even part of it.

That was the thing that was my biggest problem with this anime, on multiple occassions chracters were shown at the end as dead only to reveal in next one - nah, everything is good. That moment when Reigen got slashed in the back and appeared dead really pissed me off when it was revealed that he randomly absorbed Mob's power.

Season 2 had some real nice moments. I was a little upset that mob just goes back to reigen without actually solving the problem between them.
I will say this about One, he has a strong narrative voice and is easily able to conceptualize abstract concepts by displaying them through his characters.

But their relationship has changed since the Reigen arc so why wouldn't Mob hang out with Reigen?
