Hey, so you're totally a demon now

>Hey, so you're totally a demon now
Honest question, what did you guys think about the sudden revelation of Demon Yusuke? Did anyone shout asspull or anything like that?

One of the biggest asspulls, but by that time the manga/anime was already shit so no one cared

You did I bet.

I was literally 12 when I watched it so all I thought was "cool".

At that point that arc had already so many asspulls I didn't even care

the fact the mangaka ended the series early is indication on how much he was phoning it in at the time

Togashi is a shit writer, who knew after “hunterchads” saying he is the best writer ever.

Aspull

Not really a typical fight related asspull, but it was just lazy story writing. Togashi really didn't give a shit at this point and was just phoning it in, probably didn't help that he was literally dying

This

>here you are yusuke, you're definitely going to need these in the future

>just happen to be watching the 3 kings arc
>see this thread

I seem to remember a nice touch that he tries to use some of that shit later on in the detective arc (getting close to the more battle shounen part of the series) and Yusuke basically calling the tools a pile of shit.

Never forget the Zangief cameo.

Togashi was tired, also os generally revealed that the MC in a battle Shonen manga has some type special heritage and being demon/Yokai is what made most sense in the YYH universe.

But I liked tribal tattooed Yusuke

as a kid i thought it was radical
>he a demon now
>he shoot red rayguns
>but the dude with the rose whip is so cool, i wanna be just like him

When YYH started airing in 1992 it was the beginning of the Street Fighter craze in Japan.

The tats are cool, Togashi should do a YYH next generation for Jump with Miura Tadahiro drawing to add ecchi.

I think Ryu also made an appearance.

Togashi rushed the ending to spite his editors, nothing more nothing less.

It was fucking garbage. I understood where Togashi was trying to convey; having a human/demon beat down someone who only thinks in black-and-white morality. But it was fucking asspull. Why would Yusuke have a fucking demon ancestor?

He was supposed to be this lazy everyman who only won most of his fights because of how dirty he was, had his teacher transfer all of her power to him, and only win again because the main bad guy wanted to die.

Yeah, but going by typical shonen standards it's really nothing to get uppity about.

I think it was definitely an asspull.
I was young at the time and yyh is still one of my favorite anime, so I'm cool with it, but overall I think it could have been revealed in a different way that would have been way more digestible, it feels cheap as is.

Horrible feeling, invalidated all my hype for Yusuke’s progression. He went from being a punk to a martial artist who takes down demons, that was all cool and all but then he jumped from a martial artist to a demon god. Like what the hell was Togashi thinking that was anyway a good idea.

Yusuke is still an amazing character despite the demon thing, his serious proposal to Keiko after he realized what he wanted in his life really shown how much he's grown.

>not really dead
Fucking lame, ruined the whole scene.
>super beast fight in hell
Pretty cool.
>Lol it was my plan all along
Fucking gay again
>eternity with homo demon
Full gayness
>ruined followup arc
just fuck my shit

Togashi probably didn't give a fuck at this point since his editors wouldn't give him freedom to write story as he wishes.

Yeah it was an asspull. I was honestly expecting Yusuke's philosophy of "dude, I can't die because of my friends and family" to be much more prominent in the later arcs. Much more than his autistic inclination to not kill. And his weird characterization in the demon world, where he is suddenly okay with Raizen and his people eating humans. Like, yeah, his detective senpai does address it momentarily, that she could never justify killing humans and she implies Yusuke is far gone, but Yusuke himself never addresses this or justifies it. It was never addressed what demons would eat to remain nourished now that humans couldn't be consumed.

I've never said he is the best writer ever, but to be fair, the only asspull he's got on HxH, which is on the level of demon Yusuke, is Nanika. You can really tell which character traits he fleshed out and how the birthed them in HxH; still, I wish his HxH women designs were even half as hot as his YYH girls.

It came out of nowhere and was a horrible twist for the dramatic build-up and climax of Yusuke's sacrifice. Even worse is that the slow, meandering stuff meant to lay the rushed groundwork for the demon heritage utterly kneecapped the excitement and plot focus that resulted from the sacrifice and Kuwabara, Kurama, and Hiei's wrathful pursuit of Sensui.

>asspull
>has a literal physical manifestation of a spirit animal
>the animal is a FUCKING PHOENIX
>NOT EVEN HIS FIRST REINCARNATION IN THE SERIES
maybe rushed and contrived but not an asspull

embarrassingly bad arc that some anons defend for some reason

Good ideas and start but it devolved into absolute dogshit. The very beginning of the arc is a prime example of how a shonen should start a new arc and introduce new and interesting ideas that werent explored in the last arc. Sensui is even a good villain, but the execution at the end is such fucking shit. Even yusuke dying wouldve been better

Was Pu even confirmed to be a Phoenix? At least at that point.

I more annoyed how they just dropped Kuwabara because of some bullshit LOL DEMONS power level wanking edge lord bull shit.

The Three Demon Kings arc is good in the anime, at least for the backstory of Hiei and Kurama, it was a deconstruction of the Shonen battle genre, with the heroes losing but life still goes on and being the strongest wasn’t everything.

>deconstruction
Shut up.

In the manga Kuwabara was dressing a baseball shirt.

I was extremely mad and it is still one of the biggest asspulls in manga history, but over time I have come to see the good parts of both the Chapter Black arc as well as the The Three Kings arc.

God this fucking arc felt like it was never going to end

Dumb, an obvious retcon, a jump the shark moment. Felt like Togashi didn't know how to end the arc so he came up with some bullshit.

fish is better

Goku being a Sayan is also a retcon to make DB more battle centric.

I liked the tattoos... still wish YYH had a sequel like Boruto.

Fish is shit

I was buying the DVDs back in the early 2000s as Funimation was releasing them because Toonami was stuck replaying the Dark Tournament. i dropped the show and didn't finish it for over a decade later because I was so disappointed with demon yusuke / how that fight ended. Thankfully the series ended quickly after that and something tells me it wasn't 100% Togashi's idea to take YYH in the direction it went at the end of chapter black / the rest of the series

Attached: yu-yu-hakusho-434821.jpg (800x1289, 136K)

It was shit and also and also ruined his character in the last arc.

I rewatch YYH every year on the YouTube, the Brazilian dub was really good.

Togashi said he wanted to do a deconstruction of the characters in the end but is a battle shonen manga, he also was tired.

Yusuke = Phoenix
Hiei = Dragon
Kurama = Fox
Kuwabara = Cat

That was so dumb. You could tell Togashi was just done with the manga too, because that was the point everything just became padding until the book ended.

I shouted "COOOOOOL"

It would have been the exact point that the series jumped the shark if not for Sensui's MPD manifesting in a literal fucking gun arm just a couple episodes earlier.

The 2nd to last chapter of the series gives pretty good insight on what a "next" arc for YYH would have been anyways. The groundwork for human/demon vs spirit world conflict was already there but he crammed the foundation for a whole arc into a gag chapter in the end. Also friendly reminder this was the very last page of YYH ever, last page of the final chapter. Thankfully he had full control of HxH and non shonen execs to push him around or any real deadlines to make

Attached: yu-yu-hakusho-437721.jpg (800x1287, 35K)

HxH has plenty of great women designs. YYH had like, Botan, Keiko, a little Shizuru and then some Mukuro

Attached: 1554059420180.jpg (828x1516, 1.11M)

>neither Jury nor Koto

Attached: 9c54c70d3dcf8e096952ebc540a0c573.png (225x331, 103K)

I've always thought it was fucking stupid. YYH has a lot of charm (especially the manga) but it's a total mess of botched potential. I love the characters and premise; I wish it got the same care and attention to plotting that HXH has had.

Flame of Recca had best girl anyways.

Goku was also obviously always different from every other human, though.

The arc itself is fine until the Sensui fight really kicks off. It injected a bit of dynamism and variety into the story after stagnating with seemingly endless tournament arcs.

So wasn't the floating cat and magic pig. It was just a silly Journey to the West story. There was no deeper mystery or meaning behind any of it.

Attached: wukong.png (622x652, 712K)

>and non shonen execs to push him around or any real deadlines to make
And that's why it's in its current pitiful state where this arc will never end.

Again, what's your point? Goku isn't analogous to Yusuke at all. The Saiyan retcon is just an explanation for Goku's weirdness.

he literally just wanted to end YYH and didn't give a shit at that point

My point is the sayain retcon is stupid and so are you. Goku's weirdness doesn't need explanation in a world where a dog is the king and a rabbit turns people into carrots.

It honestly seems like if any story goes on for too long, we end up with the MC having some super special bloodline when there was no indication of such before.

It was better than O MY RUBBER NEN.

>maybe rushed and contrived but not an asspull
Those are the hallmarks of an asspull, user.

The impact it had on his character actually made it mean something, but it was an absolute asspull at the time.

I hated it. It was finally the others time to shine, especially Kuwa after that deathstare he gave Sensui, but nope. The chosen one had to rescue their useless asses.
Considering what the rest of the arc was about and the fact that their opponent had 7 different personalities conflicting with each other I assumed a more creative conclusion than just blasting him with a laser. There was even mention of a peaceful, feminine personality in Sensui, but that never came into play. Instead Sensui just went full Saint Seiya for some reason.
I speculate this got too deep and complicated for Shounen at the time and that they forced Togashi another direction.

I'll admit it did make for an interesting setup for the Three Kings arc, too bad it got botched entirely by the sudden tournament that everyone randomly agreed to.

At that point I was in the "just end already" phase so it didn't bother me.

No one cared after the Dark Tournament

I was kinda new to anime when I saw that (and probably like 12 years old), so I thought it was cool. It wasn't until the last arc began that I started to feel like something was a bit off, like something wasn't the same. Still enjoyed it to the end though.

If I saw it for the first time today, I think I'd enjoy it mainly because the series up to that point is really good, so I'd be able to brush it off and enjoy it. But then as the last arc progresses I'd start to question it more and more as the series loses in quality. Ultimately, I'd probably end up feeling like that was the point where the series started to get kinda bad.

Yeah, I loved the part when Kuwabara just cuts open the barrier to the demon world just to follow Sensui without a second thought despite the fact that was what they went there to prevent in the first place.

Okay. It being innecessary doesn't make it analogous. They're completely different situations.
