It's decent.
It does foreshadowing to Disappearance pretty well in the TV show.

The whole endless eight thing was questionable but really paid off with the movie. Probably wasn't so bad for me as I binged it.

S3 never ever :,^(

Yea as sad as it is at least we got some sort of emotional conclusion in the movie.

Lets hope we get college years OVAs

I am enjoying this show so far bros.
however.
I'm not looking forward to the sequel series with Nagato Yuki-chan. She is by far the worst character and I wish the show would continue to focus on Haruhi and Kyon

Attached: 3.jpg (407x1150, 298K)

How far you in? Weirdly enough Yuki became one of my favourite characters. To be honest though I'd pick anyone over mikuru. Man that girl drives me mad.

Attached: 4.jpg (407x1163, 354K)

There is nothing too romantic with Nagato. You'll enjoy it.

Yuki is the third most developed character though there is a big power gap between Kyon/Haruhi and the rest. Avoid Yuki-chan though, it's a mediocre spin-off with no charm and pretty off character

Attached: 5.jpg (407x1163, 353K)

First season is best, though admittely it has some lows that are kinda annoying on a rewatch.

Who makes these. I would love an official version of this. With Kyon having to manage a Haruhi that even tho is trying to live a normal life, is still causing shennanigans sometimes

Can we all agree that Asahina just plain sucks? Apart from making the viewer and Kyon mad at Haruhi she's pretty much useless.

I love this show. I get such a strong wave of nostalgia when I rewatch it annually. It's like a drug to me.

By this point, Haruhi probably calmed down a lot. And no longer sees herself as center of universe.

Attached: 6.jpg (407x1165, 375K)

I mean the movie making episodes have some great moments. The episode where Kyon basically goes to hit Haruhi has some great tension.

that's S2 though

Yea I was replying to that guy who said season one was great by pointing out some stuff I loved from season 2.

Attached: 7.jpg (407x1165, 325K)

Kyon and human Nagato never.
A man can dream.

Attached: 8.jpg (407x1167, 382K)

Endless Eight really didn't age that well.

Quads of truth. College sequel confirmed.

In what way? Seems like more people enjoy it now rather than when it first came out.

So I heard you liked Haruhi references

Not the biggest fan of that arc, feels like a sequel to Melancholy rather than something from near the end of the show (and that's exactly what it was when the book was released).

She gets more development in the novels. Also Adult Mikuru is still pretty good in the anime, and they are the same person. Even so I wouldn't call her useless in the anime since her time travel ability is pretty important, being used in two of the most important parts of the anime, bamboo leaf and kyon saving himself in the movie. Though I guess the latter isn't really shown

Attached: 10.jpg (407x1163, 383K)

Lucky Star was a blessing.
It's easy to enjoy it now because it's apart of our history. If Haruhi wasn't nearly as popular as it was, I bet people would still be hating on it.

S1 is awfully underrated

it really is. S1 has some absolutely iconic episodes.

It was actually pretty fun to be there as it all happened

I love this series but fuck Tanigawa

nagato yuki-chan is a shite spin off. you don't have to watch it.

One thing I never understood. Was the spinoff supposed to be the new universe with no haruhi bullshit and original Kyon getting memory wiped after that point in the movie, or just a complete alternate version of the story with no haruhi bullshit ever occuring.

It was basically Yuki being the MC instead of Haruhi.

I guess my view on it is maybe different as I was able to watch it all in a row?

Attached: 1294123666407.jpg (849x599, 56K)

I finished the show and movie back in February. I was pretty impressed that it was made in and liked it a lot. I liked Mikuru out of all the girls, though. Especially the Future version. Sucks Kyon will never hit it, or else Haruhi would destroy the world out of pure jealousy.

I mean she's important plot wise but I find her character pretty bland. I will say that one line in Sigh where Koizuma says she's basically acting in order to gain Koyne affections made me re-evaluate her character. I still don't really like her young version but it's more tolerable if I think its an act.

>Yuki being the MC instead of Haruhi.
You mean instead of Kyon.

Agreed. Knowing it's a front puts in a different perspective, but not to the point where it makes her any more interesting or endearing if you just rewatch the show.

Attached: 1335205024224.jpg (840x722, 417K)

I mean I personally really liked it because these days when studios are churning out cookie cutter anime in droves it was nice to see a studio take a massive risk. To create essentially the same episode eight times and not save any money while doing it flies in the fave of what a lot of studies are doing today. If anything its gotten better with age.

Attached: 12.jpg (407x1165, 336K)

Before my time unfortunately.

I think the weakest part of the show is the secondary characters, compared to something like Hyouka for example where all 4 characters are pretty good.

Attached: 1288513605726.jpg (2480x1842, 1.12M)

Attached: 13.jpg (407x1167, 318K)

meant to reply this

I might just need to rewatch it then. I personally only remember EE for the amount of glorious Haruhi swimsuits.

Attached: endless-eight_kyonkun_denwa.jpg (400x398, 37K)

Attached: 14.jpg (407x1166, 338K)

It's really not the slog it's memed to be. And even if it is essentially the same episode each time, they did enough visually to show the different perspective and cues to subtly build the relationships if only slightly.

Attached: 1333174838166.jpg (586x643, 55K)

I mean it was a tough watch but once I learned yuki was the only one who remembered everything it put a new spin on it. I pretty much ignored everyone apart from her in every scene to see if she was acting any different.

I still think the one where it's 90% from Kyon's perspective is the best.

I agree. Character development in the show is severely lacking. And when it is there its sparse and subtle. I'd almost call it character reveals more so as if you think as the secondary characters as constantly "playing there parts" its interesting when you see some of their true natures come out.

Yura and Naruzaki are adorable. You really notice them on a rewatch.

It's real but it's also an act. Asahina-big is directing
Asahina-small from behind the scenes because she knows she would be perfectly helpless.

For added fun: she may have only become a manipulative masochist to cope with stuff that happened to her smaller form.

She's in a never ending loop of her own exploitation.

Attached: Mikuru WTF.jpg (343x408, 112K)

That's kinda fucked up. This show is pretty good for digging into even after the fact.

It's really clever to have some of the weirder themes off to the side, while Kyon stays relatively self-centered.

You start questioning causality and motivations all over again.

Doesn't the show hint at the fact that Asahina's helplessness is intentional, so she can keep the attention of Kyon and Haruhi? Or is the older Asahina putting her up to it?

Attached: 1540650000277.jpg (648x511, 64K)

The older Asahina decided that her younger self was the perfect patsy.

Now whether that's a shrewd tactical ploy, or she's simply fetishizing her own abuse, is anyone's guess. Probably it's both.

She's just doing what needs to be done for the timeline to keep the way it is

Its pretty smart because if you were to dig too much into the sci fi stuff the whole thing would no doubt fall apart due to plotholes and such. Better to leave it a mystery while only hinting at that stuff when necessary.

And most importantly Haruhi is a coming of age story more than a scifi one.

It's also a metanarrative about fiction.
Haruhi's ideal world just happens to be the kind that could sell really well as a light novel, by invoking all those insane tropes.

The 'Goddess' is a stand in for the nature of the anime market.

Not really, that stuff is never touched.

Is Sonichu canon in Haruhiverse?

Attached: 1294018578112.jpg (800x550, 107K)

I guess that's more implied than anything. Its something you'd only really get if your a fan of the medium which most people who watch anime tend to be.

Attached: 1294018636977.jpg (800x640, 65K)

CUTE!

LEWD!

Parodying your own genre is best done with great care.

Its tends to work providing the execution is good. Its why one punch man is so beloved. I'm very interested to see how season 2 manages.

There will NEVER be anything as good as Haruhi ever again.

Attached: 1548811403122.jpg (1400x1300, 544K)

So I need to watch Season 1 -> Season 2 -> Movie

and watch them in the order they originally aired in?

I watched it in chronological order and I kind of regret it I guess because I liked the mystery aspect of monogatari. Its still good but they are right about the pacing being kinda off.

don't remind me

Watch it in Broadcast order

Attached: CMaAuPB.png (1600x2200, 834K)

Watch Season 1 in the 2006 airing order, it's really worth it. After that wait some weeks and watch everything (S1+S2+Movie) in chronological for everything to make sense.

Or alternatively if you don't want to rewatch the whole S1 do: S1 Broadcast -> S2 -> Rewatch Live alive and Someday in the Rain -> Movie

It's a fantasy coming-of-age/romance, probably the best of its kind in anime.

Yes, although let's be fair, the best parts of the romance are the ones that happen in the LN after the anime, starting from Intrigues specifically

I just finished the movie. Should I check out the light novels?

They're pretty great, although some of them are slower. Start with Snowy Mountain Syndrome from the 5th LN.

No idea there, though I was quite satisfied with the development of the show, the romance is way more platonic (while still realistic somehow) than most romance anime out there, you can easily take for granted more explicit stuff after that.

Yeah. Just like most of Haruhi stuff, it's pretty subtle and a big part of it is conveyed through subtext. Live Alive is a good example of this.
