How the fuck do you turn such an exciting premise into such a boring and incoherent shitfest? Wtf.
>start an arc
>introduce 20 new characters
>give them a grain of depth each
>kill half of them off without a payoff
>abandon the rest of them
>repeat
Fucking dropped.
How the fuck do you turn such an exciting premise into such a boring and incoherent shitfest? Wtf

the series was great, but i never got the ending
johan just vanishes?
Sounds like real life.
20
Pathetic,Best episodes start around 40.Stop being a ADD zoomer and just watch it.
finished it last week. Pretty sure he just escaped (? he wasn't really locked up) find his mom and take revenge and or find out his name.
I haven't watched it but I'm interested in the setting
I kept desperately wanting to believe it was going somewhere. That it was some massive slow burn to actual creepy supernatural Satanic Antichrist shit later. I deluded myself into thinking it was being hinted at. That all the neat touches like the three frogs and myriad other biblical references would culminate in a satisfying way.
But it was all foreplay, never got around to sticking it in. I didn't hate the ride, but finishing it was a let down.
You have shit taste
Nobody knows, but the open window leads to believe that he scaped. It's not clear what he did after that, tho. Also search "Another Monster" to learn a bit more.
Real life makes for a shitty story.
This is one of these rare series with an entertaining main and a boring ass villain.
You're retarded if you thought Monster would ever devolve into satanist bullshit and you're doubly retarded for wanting it to in the first place.
With all those fucking allusions to Johan being the antichrist? I don't know if you're dense or just contrary.
Do you take every ounce of symbolism literally?
Not every ounce, but I expected it to be capitalized upon in a meaningful way beyond "Maybe he is, maybe not! But now he's gone again and all the weird shit that follows him! Figure it out yourself." I know there are stories like that and they're very artsy and open to interpretation and that's nice, but in this case I just found it ultimately unsatisfying.
There were a lot of great characters and moments though. I remember liking the hitman. But I was really hoping for something a bit more climactic and less cryptic for the sake of being cryptic.
It's literally just fake mystery and tension. Tenma is trusted by every single townsperson he meets even though he is all over the news as a serial killer. Johan convinces other people that he is a vampire and an alien and they go on a killing spree because of it. Whenever a character is in a dire situation they get saved by some bullshit asspull. The fact that the three main characters got almost 0 development even though the series is 74 fucking episodes long makes it even worse.
The exception to this are Reest and Grimmer of course, as well as Eva to a certain degree. If it weren't for these 3 Monster would be complete garbage.
Loved the mystery aspect but once everything was revealed it was a let down. A big fan of mysteries and they did a very good job at making us ask questions but the answers were unsatisfying I feel.
You would have to be genuinely retarded to go through 20 episodes of something you think is liquid dog ass and decide to still watch it. Not to mention episode 40 is half way through the damn show so it wouldn't be worth it to watch.
you surely mean the other way around?
Good, go back to my hero idiot
I might be missremembering but I'm pretty sure most people that Tenma meets who trust him are either rural or turkish diaspora in the major city
Monster is the definitive pleb filter.
So basically Johann got away with literally ALL the shit he did, right?
This is one of his best written next to pluto and it's still this shit. A shame. Maybe he should find a fucking writer I dunno.
Not his problem you have shit taste.
Maybe you should get some taste
the fandom is just as creative as the series
I barely remember now but he didn't do anything and weird shit just happened, or something? Like that one guy just killing himself or a whole town going full on Needful Things. But Johann was passive in all of it. Or was he? I guess I could look it up but I'm pretty sure it was intentionally vague anyway
The manga was better, but fuck I remember how it ended, I think yohan suicides.
It's been explained a billion times. Plebs and speedwatchers always have the same complaints.
Dropped this show on episode 1 when I was a teenager about 10 years ago. Might give it another chance now.
He killed a bunch of people before through poison by candy, shooting (like Franz Bonaparta's son and that patient Tenma had at the beginning of the series).
dasmonstrum.tumblr.com
His total kill count in the series is 42.
Dropped
>10 year old kid poisons adults with candy
nice seinen you got there
It's utter shite compared to Billy Bat.
>guy goes to place where he think he might find some clues
>he finds some clues
The only thing dropped here was you as a baby.
No. Doctor Tenma was based.
Well this story likes to pad itself out by adding filler characters, like the old lady he interviewed prior which I assume is never going to appear again. And I heard the pacing gets worse so I dropped it.
Retard
All these zoomer faggs expecting anime and getting a western style thriller în anime form.Fucking plebs The lot of you...
user's right, you're retarded. The whole point about Monster is that everyone has a monster repressed inside of them since birth, some have bigger monsters than others, and it's the job of adults to repress the monsters inside of the younger generation.
Johan was born with a big monster inside of him and had terrible upbringing.
It was never about him being the Antichrist or something.
However if you want a piece of art that goes that way with an antagonist at least as good as Johan, read Blood Meridian.
This
Nah
The occasional references didn't help much, then. I also fail to see how those themes preclude the man being molded into an actual monster as misfortune seems to follow him everywhere even without his intervention; nor why they'd require certain biblical references at all if they weren't ever going to lead anywhere.
You're right at least that I don't get "art" that tries to be all deep and understated. It's not usually what I'm looking for, and this story often appeared to be bordering on something else. But there was also plenty on the surface to enjoy, and I'll take that and leave the coffee shop philosophy aspect of it to the intelligentsia.
It’s intentionally left open to the viewer’s interpretation. Maybe he died despite the surgery, maybe he went to jail, maybe he escaped, maybe he repented, maybe he went back to being a killer.
>“to be fair, you need a very high IQ to understand monster“ ...
Not really. Tenma saved him but that doesn’t mean he never had to pay for his actions. He could have been convicted for all his murders or at least committed to a mental institution for life since we don’t actually know what happens to him
Monster is one of those series that would be a lot better if it was shorter. Literally nobody cares about some midget nazi trying to burn turkish people and nobody wanted to see Eva after episode 2 ever again. There were also some really silly moments like Johan mindcontrolling people by drawing images in sand that were supposed to be intense but just made me laugh
That's the point, the show starts by wanting you to think Johan might be the Antichrist, an alien, the new Hitler or whatever. That's also what the characters actually believe when they encounter him.
The truth is something else though. And it's blatantly obvious as the show progresses that Johan isn't a supernatural entity demon or some shit
Midget nazi works well given the context of the story and their motives related to Johan
Eva had good development
The whole nazi thing ended up leading nowhere and it's kind of hard to appreciate any character development if you hate the said character with passion
>hard to appreciate any character development if you hate the said character with passion
I'm happy at least that I don't suffer from this limitation.
t. retard
>hating griffith instead of feeling sorry for him
Those feelings are not mutually exclusive by my reckoning. In general, apostles are the most vile and also the most pitiful examples of humanity. Griffith is no exception.
griffith isn't an apostle tho
>kill half of them off without a payoff
Wait what? Not too many important characters actually die. The ones that do certainly are very impactful.
Yes. I think the same principle applies.
This thread needs way more Lunge.
nice bait
Martins scene is some real shit, real men cried.
