The reception from most manga readers and animeonlies is still great, so I think all in all they did a great job.

I don't find that to be completely true, some scenes ended faster than I thought they would but it still gave me the same emotions I had when reading the manga. In the end, they didn't cut anything important from those scenes to make them boring. My personal opinion is that I wish they spent a little less time focusing on the fighting this season and more on the talking moments, but the fight scenes and sakuga are still cool so I'm not shitting on it.
I read the manga so I could tell what was going on. I wouldn't fault a non-manga reader to miss that he was undergoing 100% ecstasy.♨️

Yes, I like the titlecards, that's the only disappointment I had. The scene still conveyed what was meant to be conveyed. Mob usually has a blank expression so it's clear that he was going through a litany of emotions during this fight. I can't tell if you've read the manga but World Domination Arc was released quite slowly, I gave it a re-read and it wasn't as long as I remembered

I thought it was extremely obvious that none of the messages in Mob Psycho were groundbreaking or new. The manga nor the anime never tried to label itself as that. Of course, "be a good person" "accept yourself" "overachieving can be harmful", etc. are baby-tier lessons that everyone should know since childhood. For me the anime did an awful job with precisely this topic, rushing the shit out of the story to cover it all in a single cour season, to give an example, Serizawa in the manga is presented as a menacing and powerful foe that it's beaten by Mob using the reasoning against him, yet in the anime Serizawa is presented as a pussy ass faggot that got told by random kid without any sort of emotional investment in the process, rushing things out harm the story and they totally did in this case, a story that relies entirely in its pacing and not the message itself.

I don't know what kind of examples you've seen in life but I've been acquaintances with people who were constantly pushing themselves to be the best to the point of burnout and losing their sense of self. It sucks. It's fine to strive to be number 1 but you have to be grounded. Some successful people are the most distraught/depressed/self-hating because they threw everything away to be number 1. In Mob, that's the plight of Toichiro. A less extreme example of it is Teru.
That's the problem with cours, nothing can be perfect and some things need to be cut to fit in properly with the directors vision. I posted it earlier in the thread but he admitted to being super focused on the action. However, Serizawa always was a pussy, even in the manga he was. He had some menacing scenes because ONE is good at conveying that, it may have come off as a whiplash if they portrayed Serizawa like that in the anime due to the episodes being short. In the anime, when he deflected the American guy's attack, it still gave off the vibe of Serizawa being incredibly powerful, same as when he deflected Toichiro's attack on Reigen.

Serizawa spent quite a bit talking about his history and insecurity. Near the end of his speech he was breaking down. I just re-read the manga chapters it's associated with (89) and it's almost literally word for word in the manga.
No, it ended on chapter 90. There;s about 60 chapters left due to the chapters being structured like pic related.

The anime's delivery of the end of the Separation Arc makes it seems like Mob knew all along that Reigen didn't have powers. In the manga, Mob simply says what he said to Reigen being " a good person."

Cool animated fight scenes are nice but are ultimately worth absolutely nothing aside of eyecandy. It's good for Bones to flex, but that doesn't salvage this arc in the slightest.

There's nothing wrong with liking an anime on a purely eyecandy basis. Plus it's not like there weren't good character moments and gags as well, that very same fight ended with self defense rush after all.

I like Mob Psycho mainly for the feels.

Most of the *huge* character moments are either boring / lackluster redoes of the beats already done in Mogami that are done away in 5 pages / 20 seconds or ultimately inconsequential stuff (such as most of the ex-Scars, who pretty much stay at the same point they were at the beginning of the arc). Super 5, aside of Serizawa, are an absolutely awful group of villains with none of the almost goofy qualities of the Scars during the first Claw arc that gave weight to the message proposed there. In particular, Shimazaki is probably the worst offender as a huge portion of the arc is spent dedicated to the secondary cast getting destroyed by him over and over to stall time for Mob to make his reapparance (thankfully Self-Defense Rush does lighten up things a bit).
Touichiro is still a complete bore of an antagonist, and unlike in the manga where the ???% arc does redeem him and Shou as characters a bit, the anime simply cannot make the audience care about the nth "very evil guy that is very evil and dickish but after the protagonist beats his ass for a few chapters he reveals his very tragic reasons for doing what he does" that is so prevalent in most shounens. Mogami did everything he did in relationship to Mob, regarding his role in society, his vision in relationships and his powers in a much more organic, potent way, while also being a much stronger foil to Mob's own personnality. Sidecast is still mostly there for sightseeing, aside of Reigen and Dimple occasionally hanging out, doing a possession, doing a speech, but ultimately having nothing of worth to do or say.

Like I said, it *had* very nice fight scenes, but frankly, I can always just watch fight compilations in youtube if that was the only thing worth seeing, although it might be this arc's only saving grace.

Long story short if you don't mind the huge spoilers : "Shigeo"' is the name of Mob's true self, aka ???%. He's Mob's feelings and powers fully free, while "Mob" is the personnality full of complex holding back his powers that was created after his trauma from hurting Ritsu. The last arc is about the inner conflict, and ultimately the reconciliation, of both side of Shigeo as he finally accepts himself.

Huh, interesting. I've been really enjoying watching the anime with fresh eyes and no expectations from the manga, so I'll just wait until S3 to find out.

The Ova is literally anime only OC written by One while they wait for Season 3. They're still doing Season 3.

The Alien telepath arc happened near the end of Winter Break, so it's likely going to be the beginning of Winter Break.

That said, the Brocoli/Dimple/Psycho helmet arc happened BEFORE that so I'm guessing it's in between, so we may not see Dimple.

In the anime arc ending he didn't though which struck me as weird. He was playing around with Serizawa and everyone.
