Each "era" is named after the ceremonial name of the presiding Emperor. Currently, we are in the Heisei era because that's the current emperor's ceremonial name. Literally all this means is that they just announced what ceremonial name his son is taking after Emperor Heisei abdicates.

So, Showa Era > Heisei Era > Reiwa Era = Emperor Showa > Emperor Heisei > Emperor Reiwa

There's really no competition in FF7. Aeri(s/th) can't compete with Tifa, Barret is a joke and as great a girl Yuffie is, she's not compatible with Cloud.
