I still don't think they'll blatantly show them married or act like a couple in a possible timeskip, but those hints sure make you think.

I mean, it could just be describing what their relationship is similar to rather than anything more than that. I'd actually be shocked if Dororo died, but Hyakkimaru is definitely not guaranteed to make it to the end of the story, and him surviving would be necessary to make the kind of epilogue needed to go further with that comparison.

Bittersweet ending wouldn't be a bad thing in my opinion, Hyakki would still get his deserved happiness, but this happiness will come with price, or with him having to leave something behind. A clear cut happy ending wouldn't fit with the tone of the story and with the historical period they live in. I can't see Hyakki completely letting go of the memoriers of his tragic past life even if he succeeds in recovering his whole body and starts living a peaceful life.

Yes, but it lacks its own identity. Putting the music and memes aside, OP 1 had an interesting visual look to it that harked back to the manga (characters render in Tezuka style) and 1969 anime (the colour palette and moody atmosphere). It looks unique compared to other anime OPs out there.

I completely disagree. The only part of Dororo that was actually a product of the times was the violence, ironically enough. The Gekiga Era was when Manga artists started to stray away from simplistic, Disney-esque styles and lean more towards realism, with Tezuka being the exception to the rule because of his initial hesitatance towards the genre. Tezuka made Dororo as a first attempt to get into it and it shows. It was always agreed to be one of Tezuka's weaker works, but that doesn't mean it's a bad read by any means.

You can apply this exact logic to One Piece. The style is part of the appeal, and it even helps balance the story out in a way the anime can't. The original is a consistently brutal and unforgiving ride, but it has the style to keep things from getting too depressing. The anime has dark moments, but they're spread out between much lighter interludes that are anime-only.

I'm working my way through it, just finished Civil War part 2. It's the first Tezuka I'm reading and I think it's great. I think that Future, Resurrection, and Nostalgia were standout volumes, but Karma is one of the best stories I've ever read. I still can't believe how good it is.

The plot will deviate only for what concerns Hyakki's family drama I think. Not killing Tahoumaru and the deal with his mother's Buddha statue are big game changers. As for Hyakki and Dororo's journey to kill the demons, it's gonna be more or less the same as the manga, the new PV and opening pretty much confirmed it.
