Sony a6300 + the cheap SEL30M35 macro lens. Not that much post processing than what I'd normally do when taking pics during vacations. Just moving the usual sliders in Lightroom to correct the light balance, exposure, highlights, shadows, etc.
All the heavy works comes beforehand, by properly lighting the figure. And even there, I fucked up, I shouldn't have used a background with too much orange/yellow, it should've had more white so the fig would stand out more (and it fucked up the color temperature badly, I had to correct everything manually). I also fucked up when setting up both Hikari and Homura together, because I didn't have proper lighting to light both of them equally from the same direction. Well, works well enough anyways, considering I'm only working with my TV as the background, and my Ikea floor lamp.

GSC's Antarcticite looks fine with translucent hair, but it only works because of the nature of that figure itself. I agree that most scales with translucent hair look pretty dodgy.

Sure it's one additional shelf, however that makes the space smaller, so you won't be able to use risers for the back row unless you're using it to display nendos/figma. If you have no intention of making back rows then it's fine. As for detolfs being on the ground, just buy a box shelf or DIY some wood together and place the detolf on it.

The extra shelf mitigates the need for risers and there's still room for small ones with smaller scales. As for making a base, when have you ever seen anyone do that? There's a shelf you can buy and put on its side if you're putting two or three cabinets next to each other, but how many people shopping at Ikea do you think have the skill and desire to make a support strong, stable, level, and attractive enough to be placed under a display case of all things? I'd wager it's not many; that's one of those bits of advice people like to give but no one actually follows.

They are not prepainted, they are cast in colored resin.
You still need to clean it and at the very least apply eye decals. Flat color with no shading or variation is not going to look very good though, so painting is recommended.

I actually got some big acrylic display boxes from Toys R Us when they went out. Two only have three sides, but I can just have a big wooden backdrop I can paint and have shelves on.
