Yoi's director is a figure skating otaku, that's why the sport aspect was so good, but she also was motivated to convey that kind of relationship between Yuuri and Victor, that's why the result was so good and enjoyable

The show strikes me as one of those message-heavy shows with a central theme that's supposed to be significant, but since the message itself is kind of hollow and redundant (why can't we all be nice and good and stuff?) the show ends up painfully flailing around the entire time.

There won't even be cool action scenes to make it not boring either.
