I agree it's very odd to skip her backstory. It is even in the same novel that had Setsumushou's. I'm wondering if this movie in going to be in the same omnibus release format as the first, with her story in the second half. The first movie was also marketed only for its first part, and using Roufuyou as the pivot and keeping a villain as the surprise would make a lot of sense.

I kinda didn't like that about the first movie, it felt like I was watching 2 episodes of thunderbolt back to back, especially cause it was a prequel + season 1 recap. Best to focus on one plotline for an entire movie than try to split it into two. Then again, will they have enough material for a full movie? Who knows, the bard prequel isn't published in any side materials afaik like the other stories.

I'll be a little pissed if they don't adapt it. I recently held back from buying the novel precisely for thinking the backstory would be adapted this year. Had to pay for shipping from Japan to get the Saya novelization and thought about using some of the tax-free shipment limit to get it, but decided on something else.
Then again, hopefully we get more information on the movie before the Saya sequel is released so if it's not in there it can be paired on another tax-free shipment with that one.
Previous movie was half adapted, half original. That's another parallel that the second one could follow.

Don't get put off by the first episode, that one goes way over the top and hits pretty hard. It really is a heartwarming story about a bunch of fuckos going on a magical journey to beat up some bad guys.
