Starts out as wacky as the anime, but grows into a SoL with an adult cast after the anime, also random scifi hijinks.
If you're looking for a hardboiled scifi manga, this is not it.
If you're looking for a lolsorandumb gag manga, this is still not it.
It sets out to do its own thing and you either like it or not, I suggest giving it a try.

Pandora was Shirow's project at first, but he shelved it. Then Rikdo wrapped Excel Saga up and looked for the next thing to draw.
Shirow passed the concepts and designs to Rikdo who reworked them into the manga.
Shirow's designs ended up in Arise instead.
