I don't like Watsuki, but the fact he spat in the face of Imperial Japan Romanticism in the fucking 90s was ballsy to do in a Shounen manga. Kenshin should have sided with Shishio, really. Considering what the "winning side" got up to later, Shishio was ultimately the lesser evil.
