You can read Taiwan or Hong Kong. That is where 90% of Chinese pop culture come from.

Chinese - If you're reading Mainland stuff, they literally struggle to be cool. They tend to surpress the mildly interesting art they have there anyway.
Taiwanese and Malaysian, etc., I have no idea about.
Korean - Everytime I try and read one I feel like I lose IQ points; one big problem is their obsession with being 2edgy4u, but in general their entertainment industry is an escape from reality rather than having at least some grounding in it.
Western - Genuinely can't out it into words. There's definitely a mindset here, but all I can tell you is that the dissatisfaction here is the reason I prefer Japanese stuff.

It's because normies in general have a more condescending attitude towards manga/anime in the West, especially since it's quite a tangent from the cartoon, Disney movie, comedy, drama, reality TV show, soap opera, and other related crap they grew up with. As far as Korean ones go there's some out there I enjoyed quite a bit but they quickly got dropped by the scan team after a few chapters so I just quit bothering to read them altogether. I kind of liked pic related mainly because I enjoyed the idea of a badass auntie central character but it ended up getting dropped by the scan team after six chapters. Doesn't help that there's literally no board here where you're allowed to discuss them

I don't know the history but I feel like at this point manhua and manhwa are too derivative of manga. If you look at them too they often look like bootleg manga. American comics evolved completely separately into their own thing. Though early American comics were an influence on manga (the Donald Duck comics for instance I've seen as a large influence on manga, though pick up the average American comic and you can see they weren't really influential there) the development was different and you can see this in the art and paneling of American comics. Not to mention that comics in the US are seen as IPs where numerous people do their own take on something and artists and writers change frequently. And the medium's oversaturation of capeshit. There's plenty of non-capeshit comics, some are good and some are bad, but anyone that thinks American comics thinks superhero comics.

I'd say there are American comics that are as good as manga but they're usually more niche and so the industry keeps pumping out garbage while the occasional good thing gets released in the background. But in the early 00s there was apparently a push for "American manga", which seems like it's coming back. So we'll start getting more bootleg manga made by Americans soon that won't be any better than your average capeshit comic.

I read far more Korean manga then the average person, and it suffers from a few fatal problems
1. The series are slow as shit. The authors clearly did not plan out where they wanted to go, and are dragging it out to help pad space
2. The main cast of pretty much every series has the same personalities as the other Korean comics.
3. There’s not enough variety in selection.
